Like Melting snow.
Like the last petal on a flower
Arnav stared out at the sunset...
His voice travelled on the breeze...
He hoped it would travel to where his heart was...
"I'm going to tell you what's inside my soul...The day I saw you, I came to see the beauty of love..."
His eyes closed...
Memories alone now preserved his heart...
"I came to see it...in it's purity...in you...Khushi..."
The sharpness of his tears cut through his eyelids...
"I had been so wrong...and yet you calmed my heart...I had denied the wonder of your love...and yet you endured my outbursts...But even through this...I saw you...my heart was yours..."
Arnav's voice became serrated...
"My heart IS yours..."
His eyes opened to the setting sun...
Distorted images pierced his vision...
The light?
Colors?
A cry?
Life is fragile.
Like a ray of sunshine that is so powerful, and yet gets hidden by a cloud...
"You're now the sunset...but even though I cannot see you, I know you're still there..."
"You are now the brightest star, that watches me at night...now when I crave your touch, I lift my eyes to the sky..."
Arnav paused...
Looking towards the sun...he closed his eyes...and remembered...
A gunshot...
Yet he didn't hear the shot...
Khushi dying...
The sound he did remember was his heart breaking...
His heart was like stained glass, that had a rock launched at it...a flying kaleidoscope of colored glass shards that fell to the ground shattering...
As he knelt beside her...
That was when he heard her voice for the last time...
"My heart is yours Arnavji...Though we will be far apart, I'm right by your side...Through it all, my heart has always been yours...My love does not die with me...Everyday it will rise with the sun, and every night it will shine through the stars..."
"No..." he couldn't draw in air..."how am I supposed to go on without you...you can't leave me..."
"I'm not leaving...I'm just flying for awhile...I am like a butterfly, flying to the sun...the sun never lets us look into it's light...But Arnavji...the sun will open up...and you will see me again...at the right time...patiently wait...the time will come..."
Arnav watched the sunset every day...
For the past year, his heart despaired even as it soared...
Closing his eyes once more, sending teardrops cascading down his cheeks, he lifted his hand to his heart..."I will wait forever...forever Khushi...But I...I...I miss you so desperately...I wish that...somehow, you could speak to me...in some way..."
His voice faded...
Slowly opening his eyes, he looked down at the hand that covered his heart...
Resting on a teardrop that had fallen on his hand, was a butterfly...
The brightest smile etched over his face...
That moment, the butterfly flew away, heading towards the sun...
"Take my heart to her..." he whispered as his eyes held onto the flittering creature until the sun's radiance blinded him...
In the final seconds, before the sun disappeared, he heard her voice...the voice that held his heart...
"I am like a butterfly, flying to the sun...the sun never lets us look into it's light...But Arnavji...I believe, the sun will let you in one day...and you will see me again...at the right time...patiently wait...the time will come..."
