Just a quick note, whenever you envision Arnav in ANY of my stories... ALWAYS picture him with short hair, yes you know which hair I'm talking about... The Diwali haircut 😉
Chapter Three - Ajnabi
Anjali Singh Raizada hit the end call button as she turned around to see the eager face of her grandmother, who had been closely listening in on the conversation that had just transpired between her grandchildren.
'He's back Nani'
The tears were glistening on Anjali's cheeks as she half ran towards her, her face gleaming with relief and utmost happiness as she ran in to her arms.
'Chote's finally coming home!' She choked out as she clung to her grandmother, before turning towards Devi Maiyya in the Mandir and holding her hands to her heart - silently thanking her for making this happen.
'It's finally happening! And this means we'll finally be able to move back to our old house Nani!'
'Haan Anjali bitiya! Aur iss baar, Akash bitwa bhi humaare saath hoga!'
The elder woman had tears trickling down her face at an alarming rate as she thought about how their bad days were slowly coming to an end - their house would now finally be a home.
'Nani! I'm going to make sure they have their favourite dishes on the table before they get here!' Anjali said in excitement, her hands clasped tightly as she schemed away in her head.
'Yes! Great idea Anjali bitiya, you go ahead, I'm going to start taking a few things down so we can start packing!'
As Anjali hurriedly walked to the kitchen, she slowed down a little; a downcast expression forming over all the joy she was experiencing as her thoughts rested on her baby sister.
Khushi.
She felt the guilt seep through her, making her sick to the stomach as she realised that this move... This move, meant that they'd once again be close to her. Meaning that the option of not seeing her was far from being possible. They had literally lived 2 streets away from one and other - meaning only a miracle would stop them from bumping in to each other now.
After the bomb blast at the train station that day, Arnav had gone in to a coma, unbeknown to the rest of them. Anjali herself had been told that her younger brother was more then likely dead. She had been there that day... She had been there with Khushi by her side as the police told her that her brother was gone. She had hit complete rock bottom that day, with only Khushi and her family as her support - she had gone home to an empty house.
Two months later, Nani had moved from India to England to come and be with her Grand daughter. They had to move to a different part of London as they couldn't afford to live in their parents' house anymore. And once they'd moved, the relationship between her and the Gupta's slowly became severed. A phone call everyday slowly became a phone call every month and the meet-up once a month slowly became a meet-up once a year. Not that Khushi hadn't tried... Khushi had tried so hard to hold on to her, but Anjali had slipped away. She couldn't bear to withstand the pure hope Khsuhi had in her heart that Arnav was still alive. It made her miss him even more.
And two years later, she received that heart-stopping phone call to tell her that her brother; her Chote, was still alive.
She hadn't called Khushi, or the rest of the family - the only thing in her mind was that she had to get to her little brother as fast as she could.
Maybe if she had called her... Then maybe things would have been different today.
Maybe? No... they definitely would have been different. She would have had her little sister back. And Chote? He would have been happy with his best friend by his side.
He had changed the day their parents died, even Anjali could see that. 2 years in a coma had failed to change this either. Her happiness was short-lived, her heart breaking again as she heard her brother tell her that he was going to India.
'Di, I need to save dads company'
'Di i'll study while I'm there'
'Di don't worry, I'll stay with Mami, at least I'll have Akash to help me'
He hadn't stopped once to think about how she would live without him. She had only just got him back.
She had cried her heart out that day; watching him as he flew off on an airplane - away from her.
He had made it very clear to her that day before he left.
'Don't tell Khushi anything'
How she wished that things were different, there wasn't a day that went by that Anjali didn't regret the way she had let her go. 'Why did I listen to you Chote?' she thought to herself. She blamed herself even more for shutting her out. There had been so many times where she almost broke her promise and nearly called her. But that nagging feeling at the back of her head always stopped her. 'What would I say to her? How would I even explain myself?' Anjali closed her eyes once again as she rested her hands on the kitchen counter, a silent tear slipping out from underneath her eyelid.
'I'm so sorry Khushi'

A black SUV came to a halt outside the flat as Anjali and Nani worked in unison in getting ready for the arrival of Arnav and Akash. As the doors opened, out stepped Akash, badly dressed for the cold weather of England as he shivered violently in his thin t-shirt and turned towards the car.
'Bhai it's so f**king cold man'
As Arnav Singh Raizada stepped out of the car, he turned towards his cousin and took off his aviators, an annoyed expression etched on to his ever-angry face.
'Deal with it bitch'
Both brothers looked at each other intently, before Akash conceded and rolled his eyes at him.
'You know, you might want to re-think the swearing what with Nani being around'
'Akash... You swore as well,' he said incredulously as he watched his cousin rubbing his arms in a bid to keep himself warm.
'That's because it's sooo f**king cold!'
Arnav rolled his eyes back at Akash as they walked towards the flat. His Di was waiting for him. He smiled lightly as he thought about how happy she was going to be to finally move out from this shithole.
'Time to go back home Di'
~
Khushi bitiya... Come here! You've got some post here for you'
'Coming Amma!'
She came racing through the doors and skidded to a halt by her mother, nearly crashing in to her in the process
'Dhyan se Khushi!!!'
'Sorry Amma!' she chortled out, looking at her mother sheepishly as she took the envelope from her hands.
'Theek hai theek hai, don't overdo it... Nautanki'
Garima shook her head at her crazy daughter, lightly shoving her head as she walked away.
Khushi flipped over the envelope to see the logo on the front... ARD, it read.
'AR Designs?!' Khushi whispered frantically as she ripped open the envelope as fast as she could, not caring that she had almost ripped the letter itself in the process. As she whipped out the letter, an array of expressions adorned her animated face. ARD was the new reputed design company that had just been set up in the town centre nearby... They did everything! From graphic design to fashion, and Khushi was itching to get her hands on a job there. It would be perfect for her!
As she finished reading the letter, her shock slowly transformed in to possibly the widest smile one would ever see in their lifetime. She held the letter up to her chest as she closed her eyes and let out the breath she had unknowingly been holding for the past minute.
'I got an interview!'
________________________________________________An update after SO long - So i am extremely sorry
Just a little extra note, when Anjali refers to Khushi as her baby sister, i mean it in a 'she's like my baby sister' kind of way lol. (Just in case it was confusing)
Hope you all liked it! I'm hoping to update this one a bit more now 😊

If they are good friends, I dont understand why Arnav hid his survival from her...after all they were just friends...
Umm... yah! What a question to ask! Of course, you must continue.
How horrible of Arnav (and also Anjali) to make her believe that he is dead. He probably doesn't love her then. Like she loves him. What will happen when they come face to face? I hope she does not forgive him - easily! I hope she rejects him!She is so staunch in her love for him. He really does not deserve that or her! How can he treat her like this? Oh God! I hate him! 6 fuc*ing years of sufferance and sorrow and heartbreak because of a selfish basta*d! As**ole! He took her teen years and prime of her life away! It should have been the happiest times of her life. The jerk! Creep! Sorry! I am so mad at him for making her suffer like this. Giving her sorrow unnecessarily! Because he doesn't want to make a bloody commitment. Because he is afraid to have a relationship! Why didn't he just tell her so! See just how selfish he is!!AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!I better stop here, before I explode! Thanks for the PM.😃Waiting to see what happens next.
