CHAPTER 4: Lightening Strikes
Arnav looked at Shyam's letter once again. Every single word was just a painful reminder that this was all Arnav's fault. He had lovingly proposed to her, only to make her married life hell. He had given her his heart, only to snatch it back. God, how much she must hate him right now for every single lie he had uttered. Arnav got up, tearing the paper apart. I need to go now, he urgently thought. Grabbing some casuals and his license, he sped to the only place where he knew the pain could be numbed; the nightclub of Delhi.
Akaash watched as his brother slammed the door and knew that his brother was going to have another wasted night. Why does he do this to himself?
"You will not go after him?"
Akaash jumped at Payal's voice.
"I' I don't think he'll like it." Akaash answered quietly. He went back to the newspaper but a few seconds later Payal was in front of his face.
"So Mr. Akaash, since when did you care? Is he your younger brother or not? Hmm?... Go!" Payal softly encouraged Akaash and handed him his car keys. "I don't want this unhappiness Akaash. We need to move on's-sh-she's not coming back." Akaash looked at the tears streaming down his wife's cheek and grasped her into a tight hug. He then quietly walked into the night.

She watched the dance floor, her desire to move to the music increasing as Khushi watched the hands sway in the air, the legs shake to the beat, and the bodies groove against each other. Going to the middle she did what she did best- danced. This was her happy place, the place where she could let wild and let loose, and not worry about anyone's opinion of her. Here, she could be the real Khushi Kumari Gupta, who put her heart and soul inside the movements that her body formed as the DJ turned the speakers up. All the other dancers parted for her, knowing that she was the owner of the floor with her fierce way of expression through her dance steps. But tonight, there was someone new.
"Lavanya, looks like there's a new man in town. Are you up to challenging him? Looks like he needs to learn who the real pros are! Come on! It'll be like the old times!" Khushi pouted.
"Woah! He's hot. You sure you want to challenge him? Hot guys are hot dancers!" giggled Lavanya. Khushi rolled her eyes at Lavanya. La had come 1 day ago and they had decided tonight would be a girls night out. So they had hit the club, Lavanya in a short black dress and Khushi in a sexy red dress.
"You don't believe me? Well'fine'but just watch him first." So this was why she and La had ended up sitting at the bar, beers in hand, watching a random guy. But Khushi was not complaining.
His body seemed to have trained her eyes in a hypnotize as she tried to look away. All Khushi saw was the back of him, in his low-slung jeans and a dangerously tight white shirt. He was dancing with elegance yet there was certain carelessness to the way he moved his body. He was dancing seductively against a girl, whose waist was snaked by his arms. Khushi felt the heat of passion wave from him but she was disappointed in not being able to see his face.
"So, fancying anyone?" teased Lavanya.
"No' it's just that he feels so familiar!" Almost like Arnav chided her mind.
"Feel? Wow Khushi'what romance movie have you been watching lately? Or was it you-know-who?" joked Lavanya. "Babes, I got him! You know you're off limits!"
But just then the hunk turned around and made his way to the bar. Finally! Khushi caught a glimpse of his face. Immediately she regretted it, as her breath caught in her throat.
It was him. His sharp Roman nose paired with that strong jaw line and those eyes. When would she find the right words for those chocolate eyes?
Wow Khushi! Look how your admiring him. Remember, this is the same bas***d that broke your heart. Taking a deep breath, Khushi composed herself as Arnav finally landed his eyes on her.
It was her. Her small round nose paired with those soft cheeks and those eyes. When would he find the words to describe those gray doe-like eyes?
But she hates you, Arnav. He closed his eyes, realizing that his dreams and his reality would never merge together.
"Ah... Ms. Gupta. It's been a while."
"Oh, Mr. Raizada! You in a Delhi nightclub' Were all the call girls busy?"
"Khushi' you know I would never do that." A faint pleading was heard in his voice.
"Do what Mr. Raizada? I'm confused." You will not win the game this time Arnav.
"When are you not confused?"
"You're avoiding the question, Mr. Raizada." Arnav grabbed her arms, but watched as Khushi twisted HIM around. "How dare you touch me! I'm not yours to please!" sneered Khushi.
"I would never use a girl for pleasure. There, I answered your question." Khushi was surprised. She had not expected him to give in so easily. She stared into his eyes before letting go of him. Arnav on the other hand was too troubled to notice. What hurt him the most was that' there was no emotion in those eyes. There was a mask that shielded them.
"Khushi' what happened?" he swallowed nervously as he awaited her answer.
"Ha! You act as if you weren't there those 6 months!" she spat, "You act like you didn't hear the words that your sister yelled at me, the way she dragged me, the way YOU, Mr. Raizada forced' Excuse me, but I'm leaving." She stepped aside and walked away, texting Lavanya about her early leave before gulping for air. Khushi glanced back one last time, closing her eyes at the scene in front of her. Arnav had flinched as he heard her words and as Khushi looked on, she was surprised again by the visible display of emotions that flickered on his face and through his eyes. Arnav had always been a hard book to read but it seemed that his mask had fallen. "I'm leaving." She spun around, and walked out, her heels echoing and fading until they hit the concrete, as Khushi hit the cold night.
Shivering, she physically walked down the sidewalk, while mentally her mind walked does "memory lane".
Distrustful eyes.
She hugged herself, wrapping her arms around her chest.
Divorce papers.
The first drop of rain from the clouds landed on her face.
Him believing his sister over her.
It was pouring now, and soon she couldn't tell if it was her tears or the rain streaming down her cheeks,
His proposal and his kiss.
The thunder now rumbled.
The lies.
The thunder growled, sensing her frustration.
"I hate you, Khushi!"
The lightning struck in the sky, its brilliant light flashes contrasting against the dark clouds.
Mrs. Raizada, your pregnant, you must tell your husband.
"Khushi come one you're getting wet!" whispered a quiet voice.
Of course I will tell him when he comes by the door! He'll be the first to hear! I can't believe it, we're going to have a family!
"Jiju? Take me to my son. I left him with the nanny, he must be waiting for me. It's funny how I never got to tell him even though I promised the doctor. My cute secret!" And with that Khushi slipped into unconsciousness. Akaash picked her up gently, his head spinning by her last words, and put her in the front seat of the car, and then went around to the driver's seat. He adjusted the mirror to get a view of the backseat of the car where Arnav was lying in his own void of darkness. Outside, the lightning struck, coloring the night sky, mocking the two lovers that there was yet to be more secrets revealed!
