Chapter 1: Childhood Enemies
"What the..!I can't believe this Di! You're actually asking me to bring her with me to the wedding? Despite knowing the fact that I can't stand her!", Arnav roared out loud into the phone. His di, Anjali on the other hand rolled her eyes, "yes Choote, I'm well aware of your well proclaimed hatred between the two of you. But, Bechare Uncle had to leave for a business deal and everyone's worried about her coming alone. And you know even the security guards are unavailable and since you're coming anyway, why not bring her with you" "Di! Please! I ---", "I'd love to reason with you Choote, but I have a lot of work here and Mom's also calling me. Okay Pick her up at six in the evening and she'll fly with you. I already made all the arrangements and please, please for the peace of your co-passengers, both of you don't start fighting again. Get her alive in one piece", her Di said while Arnav just rolled his eyes. "Okay Di. Whatver you say! Like I have a choice anyway. Don't forget to give mom her medicines today!" "yes, I will. Don't worry, just get here. I'm so excited, a wedding in our family after such a long time! It's going to be so much fun!", she squealed in excitement. Arnav resisted rolling his eyes for the hundredth time today. "Okay Di! Whatever you say! Bye" "Bye Chote"
Arnav hung up and threw his phone on the bed frustrated at his di, of having to bear her or see her. He sat on his bed and brushed his hand threw his hair. All this while he could only thing one three words. Khushi. Kumari. Gupta. The same girl who he knew since the day she was born, since their families were family friends. And the fact they were such unbreakable friends did not do anything to his Khushi-hatred factor. He was three years older than Khushi and they have been through almost their entire childhood until Khushi was seven years old and he was ten. Then he was sent to the U;S for boarding school and the bond they had had faded away, but nothing could change their intense hatred and dislike for each other. Ever since they laid their eyes on each other, they've been fighting, all throughout their life. When Arnav finished his schooling and came back to live in India with his family, almost eleven years later, Arnav's father passed away and the whole business responsibility fell on his shoulders. But Khushi's dad had helped him survive through, he was the only aspect that was anything pleasant when it came to Khushi Kumari Gupta. But living alone in boarding schools, coming home once in a few years, bearing the news of his parent's divorce at a very young age and having to take up India's Leading Branch of companies at the age of twenty one has hardened him up a lot, Made him sort of an Ice rock, incapable of melting to any emotion or feelings. Six years of struggles later, he became a phenomenal success in the world, taking his companies beyond a level that had ever existed even in his dad's time period. And he had developed an even harder exterior throughout all these years, making him top the list of bosses who make their employees sweat wild.
He was a person filled with a lot of impatience, short temper and negativity. But there lied an extremely kind hearted person deep within him. His mom always said, his heart was enormous, bet it in terms of hatred or in terms of love, it never did anything small. His heart loved big and hated big. The only people he would ever soften down to were his mother and his sister. And another name came to his mind at that thought, Khushi Kumari Gupta. But his mind was spiced with hatred for her. He didn't know why but they always fought, even the littlest thing she did to annoy him would rile him up and make him explode. They fought like nothing anyone has ever seen before. And what annoyed him the most was how everyone in his family, even his narrow minded Mami loved her to death. She was an angel when it came to others, but when it came to him, her hidden devil thorns would pop up and it would irritate him to no end. 'Dammit!", he said out loud. Even thinking about her would send him up to the apex of irritation. He looked at the time, which was almost five. He better start packing and get ready, if he was going to pick'.Khus..'Khushi up in time. He sighed as he thought about her. Having placed his bags in the trunk, he drove off at a very high speed, ignoring almost all the traffic lights and screeched to a stop in front of the gate of her huge house, which was almost as big as his. He saw the security guards and signaled them to come, "Go call Khushi and tell her I'm here. Tell her I'll leave if she isn't her in the next five minutes", he said sternly. The guard nodded, "yes Sir. I'll call Khushi Didi right away". Arnav took out his shaded and glared at the guard, "Mam", he said. The guard looked down, "Yes Sir! I'll call Mam right away", he said while going to inside his office and calling her. Arnav put his shades back on and pulled up his window. He hated it when these workers always mixed their personal and professional lives. And it irked him more how they called Khushi as if she was their own family. You couldn't exactly blame them, she was the one who was always so free with them and never kept them in their right place. He hated having to look after her like this. He didn't know why he did it, but he hated it. It was so confusing. He hated Khushi Kumari Gupta. That's it. Period. That was the only conclusion he could get into. The gate opened with Khushi walking with two of her guards pulling her luggage. As soon as they saw each other, their eyes met, vengeance filled in them and they started glaring at each other as if they've just had a fight, regardless of the fact they were seeing each other after a year. She asked the guards to load her luggage into the car and bid them bye. "bye Ram Ji and Ravi Ji! Take care of the house and make sure my babies are safe till I get back", she said waving at them in her angel sweet voice. Arnav looked at her in disbelief, as he reversed the car and started driving again. He glared at her once before turning focusing on the road. She saw the same old expression on his face and shook her head as her beautiful smiled turned into a frown. "That's the only thing that would happen if you look at this laad governor", Khushi thought to herself as she looked away. They drove in silence, letting the hatred waves between them do the talking. Her phone rang, "Yes Ram Ji, Listen please put my babies in a cool area, I don't want them to get too heated up and please take care of them. Okay Bye", she said smilingly as she hung up. He looked at her again, with an unfathomable expression on his face. "Babies", he asked her scrunching his eyes a little. "Babies what", she said raising her eyebrows with a 'so-what' expression, which irked him more. "What are they", "What do you mean what are they. They little creatures, which are born innocent and grow up with a possibility of becoming a laad governor like you", she said smiling. Arnav's nostrils flared up in anger, "That's not what I mean dammit! What are your babies", he asked while Khushi tried to hide her smile. She knew what he was asking about, but she never liked to answer him staright. "Ohhh my babies, why do you care", she said while he gritted her teeth. This riled him up more, another reason to hate her, she never answered him straight. " I don't care about you Dammit! Mujhe farak nahi padtha! I didn't know you had babies already. I feel sorry for Uncle, wonder who the guy.." "Enough Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada! Don't even go there. You don't have to feel sorry for my dad as my babies are my jalebis. I'm not as cheap and ill mannered as you", she said banging the door as they took their luggage out and put it in a cart and checked in, inside the airport. "Excuse me, who are you calling cheap. You don't even know what classy is. You flirt and talk sweetly with all the workers and everyone. So I'm not wrong in assuming", he said. "talking to someone with spiteful words full of hatred is not called hatred Arnav Singh Raizada! Get your social etiquette right before you argue with me", she said while glaring at him. The Lady at the counter handed them their boarding passes and their eyes grew wide as they realized they were placed next to each other. "What The!" "NO Way!", they both said at the same time. The lady looked at them confused. "Can you change my seat", they both said at the same time. The lady looked at them strangely, they looked like a couple to her, maybe they wanted more privacy. She smiled at them sweetly. "Sure", she took their boarding passes and changed their seats. She printed the boarded passes for them and they heard their names being announced on the intercom. They grabbed their passes and ran to the terminal without glancing at the boarding passes once. They boarded the plane, glaring at each other. The Air hostess guided them to their seats and they almost screamed out loud when she told them that BOTH of their seats were TOGETHER at the most secluded corner of the business class. "Please Change our seats, I mean could you give me a separate seat", Khushi pleaded with the Air hostess. "Sorry Mam, the flight is full. And the plane's scheduled to leave soon, so the captain would please appreciate it if you could settle down soon", she said before walking away. They glared at each other before settling down. Arnav started cursing in his mind about god knows what, blaming his di for all this. He had to endure a two hour flight with her right next to him and that irked him a lot. What irked him more was how the male attendant was looking at her. He didn't know why but he felt like ripping his eyeballs out. "We are fine! Thank you!", he told the male attendant who came by again in the pretense of something else, actually he more liked glared him down. And the flight attendant never returned. . Then he turned to look at her, who was obliviously reading a book with her ear phones plugged in her ears. "Its all her fault! Dammit!", he thought. She's the one who talk to everyone like that and seems so innocent that anyone would eye her. And then he found another reason to hate her, how because of her he had to turn baby sitter. He didn't care about her. NO! Arnav Singh Raizada did not care about anyone. It was just that he couldn't tolerate stupidity, which was the only reason which made him mad about all these things and riled him up when it came to her. That's what he concluded. But what Mr. Raizada failed to realize is that there is always another side of the coin. If hate was one side, love was another. And you always get them together no matter which side is currently turned on. And it takes only a fraction of a second for a coin to flip sides.š
