Part 33
They arrived at the hospital and the paramedics took Arnav out and into the hospital with Khushi hanging on to the railing of the bed. She held tightly onto his hand as they were wheeled through the halls to the operating room.
"Arnav, don't leave me. Take my energy, my life. Take my breath and come back. Take my everything, but don't leave." she cried softly as they arrived at the OR. She laid her hand over heart and closed her eyes as if willing all her energy to go to him. She opened her eyes and kissed him on the cheek before she backed away slowly while the doctors took him into the room. She watched the little red light blink on as she bumped into somebody. Recognizing who it was, she completely broke down. The strong arms held her up as she cried for her husband.
Aakash arrived at the hospital and ran to the operating department just as the doctors rolled his brother inside. Khushi backed up until she bumped into him. He moved his hands, hesitantly to her side. He felt her relax and fall against him.
"Bhabi" he whispered.
"I'm so sorry. I should've said something to him before. I should've told him about Shyam when I found out. It's my fault he..." she cried as she fell apart in her brother-in-law's arms.
"Bhabi, don't say that." he said as hr slowly started to cry again. "It's not your fault. Even if you had said something, we wouldn't have believed you. He had blinded us so much that we wouldn't believe anything against him. He had fooled us into thinking he was someone else. Don't you ever say it's your fault again. Bhai once told me that he would gladly die for you. He would die protecting you. I didn't know what he was talking about, but now I do." Aakash replied. He turned her around and opened his mouth to say something when they heard Anjali yell Khushi's name.
Khushi looked at Aakash and watched him as he opens his mouth when she heard a voice call her name. She looked up and saw Di, Nani, Mami, Mama and Payal walk in. Actually run in. Khushi ran to Anjali and both women hugged each other as if lives depended on it. In a way a life did. Both women felt if they let go, the one person that meant more than the world to them would be lost. Khushi suddenly felt her sister-in-law loosen her hold and instantly knew what happened. It had happened to her many times before. She pulled back and held Anjali just as Aakash and Mama grabbed her. Aakash asked a passing nurse for a room since his sister fainted. He picked her up in his arms as they all followed him into a nearby room.
Aakash Carefully laid her on the hospital bed and a nurse came in. Khushi stayed in the back, worrying both, about her husband and her sister-in-law. She watched the nurse give her some water and a shot. When she finally realized where she was, she instantly broke down, crying her brother's name. Khushi walked to her bedside and held her hand.
"Di, don't cry. He will be fine. You shouldn't be worrying too much in this condition. Arnav will get mad at me if anything happens to you or the baby." she said, trying to calm Anjali while she was crying herself. Khushi raised her hand and wiped Anjali's tears while everyone watched in amazement. This woman, who might lose her husband, was worried about her sister-in-law.
Anjali woke up in a unfamiliar bed, uncomfortable too, surrounded by her family. There were two people missing. Her husband and her brother. That is when everything came flooding back to her. How she had been calling Chote's phone all night, but no one was answering. Than Aakash had finally gotten through, and he had rushed out leaving everyone in a state of confusion. Then, Mama had gotten a call and had given them a short version of what happened. Her husband had stabbed Chote. At first, she was surprised. She knew her husband would never do anything like that. But then the sister in her had taken over and she forgot about her husband. She was overcome with worry for her beloved brother. And they cane to the hospital, waiting for Arnav to come out, waiting for any message from the doctor that he would be fine. At the thought of her brother being operated on and being on the edge between life and death, she burst out crying again. She didn't notice Khushi come, but she heard her talking to her. She felt Khushi wipe her tears and Anjali grabbed her in a hug. A hug that could be only felt by the two people who might lose the one person that meant more to them then life itself.
No one knew how long they all had been watching the two sister-in-laws sit on the bed, crying until the older one fell asleep in her brother's wife's arms. Aakash looked at his watch and realized it was almost morning. They had been at the hospital for more than 2 hours and they still hadn't gotten any information about Arnav. They heard a knock on the door and Aakash went to open it. He saw a doctor, looking around his 50's standing in the doorway with a solemn look on his face.
"Is this the family of Arnav Singh Raizada?" he asked.
"Yes. How is Bhai, doctor?" Aakash replied in a hurried tone.
"We tried our best. We did everything we could, but it had been too long. He had lost too much blood. I'm so sorry." he said
