Part 3
"I think the red one looks better, Adamji. Red looks good on everyone. It's one of my favorite colours. And that shade of red... it's truly great. Do you know, the bride almost always wears red in Hindu marriages? I think the color would really suit you. Everyone will love you on stage if you wear it. The crystals on the sleeves, though..."
Arnav sighed, gritting his teeth. Would she never stop? For the past hour and a half, Khushi had been talking non stop, suggesting color combinations and designs. Sure, she had been a bit quiet at first, but that had soon worn away. Now, she and Adam were laughing at the stupidest of things will he sat in the corner, frustated. He couldn't call the session off, either, Mr. Levine had travelled quite far to get here. Nor could he ask Khushi to leave, without protests from Adam. They had quickly warmed up to each other, and , Arnav couldn't help but notice that Adam seemingly liked all the ideas Khushi gave him, even if they were different from what he usually wore, or even outrageously ridiculous. Arnav had tried to overrule Khushi's opinion on more than one occasion, but Adam had quickly defended her version, saying it was oh-so-vibrant and unique.
He didn't know why, but this annoyed him. Arnav covered his face with his hands. This was going to go on for the better part of the day, he was sure. Adam was the only client he had to personally attend to all day, and somehow he seemed to show no signs of leaving. He sighed again as Khushi's familiar laugh chimed again.
Khushi laughed as Adam made a comment about the suggestion she had given about the mirrors he should use on the traditonal Indian attire he wanted made. She was still laughing when she heard Arnavji let out a sigh. Turning around, she noticed that he had his face in his hands and was almost stooping over the desk where the designs were kept, which he rarely ever did.
"Arnavji?" she said, walking over.
"Huh?" said Arnav, looking at Khushi, momentarily distracted. He blinked. Her face seemed a bit hazy...
"Arnavji, have you taken your medication?"
Medication? What was she on about? He voiced his wonder. "What? Medication...?"
Khushi's heart skipped as she remembered what had happened when Arnav's sugar level had gone low and he come to ask for sugar, in the kitchen, so many weeks ago...
"You should have... uh, never mind, I'll give them to you now" she said walking toward him.
Arnav stared, startled as Khushi marched toward him and gently pushed him into the chair behind the desk. What the?
Pouring some water into a glass on the table, Khushi walked over to Arnavji, handing the glass to him.
"Where did you put the medicines I gave you, Arnavji?"
Medicines... oh, medicines! "I..." he began.
"Oh, never mind" said Khushi, as she spotted the medicines on a small chest of drawers in the far corner of the room. She popped one tablet out of the packet, and handed it to him. "Here''.
Arnav took the tablet from her without a word and swallowed it with two sips of water. He tried to give her something like a pale imitation of the smallest half smile as a thank-you, and then stood up.
"Shall we take a break, Arnav, for lunch? Staying in the same room for too long makes one stiff" said Adam, looking at Arnav.
Not him, thought Khushi. Arnav would sit in the same position in front of his laptop for hours, and never seem to need a break.
In another situation, Arnav would have declined, but this time round, he agreed, and said "Surely, Mr. Levine. Let's meet again at 4".
"Great!" Adam said to Arnav, and then turning around to face Khushi, added "Unless you have other plans,Khushi, would you like to join me, for lunch? I'd love to try some good Indian food. I can't by myself, I don't know what's good, see?" . He said, flashing her his best smile.
"Ofcourse, Adamji! You should really try some jalebis an-"
"Khushi, I need to talk to you, outside, now. Please excuse us, Mr. Levine" said Arnavji, grabbing Khushi by the wrist before the had a chance to say anything, and pulling her out the room.
"Khushi, Mr. Levine is a very important client. Stop giving him stupid ideas and - "
"But Arnavji - "
".. and do talk less. And besides, don't you have some work at home... with Di or ... "
"No, I'm absolutely free today, Arnavji. And I'm just giving Adamji suggestions... whether or not he likes them is his own choice, isn't it?"
"Kh-"
"Arnav?" came a voice from behind. Khushi turned around to find a rather tall man standing in front of here, talking, seemingly, to Arnavji. Grabbing her oppurtunity she darted back into the room, where Adamji was, waiting.
"Damn it" Arnav muttered, as the man walked toward him and held his hand out.
"Hi, I'm Josh".
