nupur returned after a few minutes ,shaking her head told shilpa ,"maa aapki bete ko na paagalpan ka daurah padtha rehtha hain"

smiling shilpa," achha ab kya hua usko?"

"mujhe daantne ke liye bhulayaa tha. Isliye ki maine teen din college miss kiya. Ab main college kaise jaasakthi thi maa isko hospital chodkar" she sighed

"chodo nupur, shayd medicines ke wajah se kuch ulta seeda bolrahaan hoga. Itna bhi unreasonable nahin hain mera beta"

"nahin maa main sach kehrahin hoon .Mujhe tho lagtha hain ki jab se pregnanacy ki baat pata chala hain uska mood upar neeche hote rehtha hain."

"matlab?"

" Pehle tho mere doctor ka sar khaa liya , apne saare check up karane keliye.do do projects karne ka soch rahaan tha , shukar hain ki maine manaliya aur ek par hi khatam hogaya. phir mujpar badaktha rahtha hain tum padthi nahin ho, tumhe koi seriouness nahin hain, tum kaise jeeogi. Tum khudh ka khayal nahin raksakthi tho bachhe ka kya dekhbaal karogi. Aur pata hain samrat ke saath jagda kiya"

shilpa had stopped her cooking midway and listened to nupur in all seriousness as she continued

"mujhe tho laga ki usko abhi bachhe ki responsibility nahin chahiye par uske hisaaf se wo khush hain" nupur shrugged

" shayad tum teek kehrahin ho nupur. Shayd ek bachhe ke responsibility se wo darr gaya ho aur ..." shilpa said though unconvinced herself

nupur wondered whether she could ask her something which had been bothering her for the past few months. shilpa turned to her and saw the hesitation in her eyes

"kya hain nupur? Tumhe kuch kehna tha? Mayank ke baare mein?"

" poochna tho tha par mayank ke baare mein nahin. wo..." shilpa expectantly looked at her," maa mayank ke bauji ko kya hua tha?"

shilpa turned to her work near the stove and spoke without much emotion," unko ? Unka accident hua tha. Par jab accident hua tab pata chala ki unko kuch blood mein problem thi aur zyaada bleeding hogaya . so..."

both were quiet for a while.

"par tum achaanak se kyun pooch rahin thi?"

" bas aise hi!" nupur answered unconvincingly and then unable to hide from shilpa s concerned sharp eyes, said," mujhe laga ki mayank ko wahin darr hain maa isiliye wo itna careful rehne ki koshish karth rehtha hain "

shilpa understood and suddenly the realisation struck that inspite of all that she had tried to do to keep mayank happy he still had thoughts and feelings which he would perhaps never want her to know. Had she failed then in raising him? she hadnt met him or spoken to him aaram se for such a long time. Her eyes turned moist as she remembered how she couldnt have ever thought of staying away from him for even a few days.

"maa, aap ... Sorry mera irada aapko kuch dukh dena nahin tha...main kisi aur se pooch nahin sakthi isliye ...warna main aapko..." nupur was next to her looking guilty

"nahin beta. Bas mayank ka bachpan yaad aarahan tha, bohot din se usse baat bhi nahin hui na..." nupur placed her hand on shilpa s arm, " achha hua ki tumne pooch liya. Mujhe khushi hain ki tum mayank ki dil ki baat ko pehchaan sakthi ho.Mayank ke dad ko guzre hue bohot saal hogaya hain nupur.Unke saath main teen saal bhi nahin rahin tho shayad abh mujhe unki baat yaad bhi nahin hain. Par haan, mayank unpe nahin gaya hain. Wahin chehra hain bas. Wo bilkul bhi serious types nahin the. Hamesha hasthe rehthe the. Mayank ki tarah sadu nahin " she said smiling while using nupur s favourite word for him! And wiped her eyes.

Nupur smiled with her admiring the way shilpa had lead her life and impulsively hugged her. Shilpa hugged her and stroked her back

" ab chodogi? Mera saara khaana kharaab hojaayega aur phir tum complain karogi sab ko ki tumhaare saas ne tumhe jala hua khaana khilaya tha"

nupur let her go and laughed as shilpa joined in.

"waise maa ek aur baat poochoon? Aap bura nahin manogi?"

"jab tak poochogi nahin tab tak kaise pata chalega ki bura lagega ki nahin? Poochon warna dono ko neend nahin aayegi"

"aapne ...aapne phir se shaadi kyun nahin ki?"

shilpa didnt look at nupur, she cleared the work she was doing while nupur waited maybe she had crossed a line "maa.."

" jab karne ka mauka mila tab karne ka mann nahin tha. Bas main khush thi hamaari duniya mein. she smiled but nupur got the feeling that it was because of mayank or maybe for him that she hadnt got married again.

"kitna sawaal karthi ho! "nupur smiled," kabhi kabhi itni mushkil hui hain nupur zindagi guzaarne ke liye ki yaad karthi hoon tho darr sa lagtha hain especially mayank ke highschool aane tak. Kabhi himmat nahin haarna chahiye bas. Ab dekho kitni aaram si life hain. Ab kaam karthi bhi hoon tho apne liye apni khushi ke liye paison ke liye nahin."

" meri amba! Maa wo tho mayank ki amba hain."

MN room- next day

mayank lying on the bed looking through some book. Shilpa walked in

" mayu, kya pad rahaan hain? Rest karo."

" main thak gaya hoon rest karthe karthe. Yeh nupur kab aayegi?"

" itna miss karne waala tha tho usko college jaane keliye kyun majboor kiya?"

"maa...main miss nahin karrahaan hoon. Bas dher horahin hain aur abhi tak aayi nahin. Phone bhi nahin utayi"

"itna kuch daant sunne ke baad main bhi phone nahin utaathi"

"maa aapko nahin lagtha ki aap kuch zyaada hi uaki tarafdaari karthi ho padhai nahin karegi tho kya main chup chaap dekhtha rahoon? Graduation is saal nahin karegi tho kabhi nahin complete karpaayegi"

"jaanthi hoon beta par itna uske upar pressure mat daalo. Is haalat mein waise bhi stress rehtha hain. Wo thak jaayegi. Abh shaadi hojaane do phir baad mein class lena aur pyaar se. Yeh kya phir se tum kadwaa bolne lage ho uske saath. Wo hain tho tumhe jhel rahin hain"

"maine kya usko zyaada hi sunaa diya?"

"bohot zyaada. Dekh mayu, tumhe ek buri aadat laggayi hain. Apne saare tensions nupur par daalne ki. Teek hain tumhaari wife hain par is waqt? Aur usko underestimate kyun karthe ho? Hamesh yeh kyun lagtha hain ki wo kuch nahin karpaayegi tumhaare bina. Usne teen saal tak tumhaare bagair hi apni zindagi guzaari thi aur itne shakthi usmein hain ki wo khudh ko aur apne honewaale bachhe ko sambhalsake. Tum uspar bhadko mat."

"maa wo koi bhi responsibility nahin leti. Abhi poochon ki mera hospital ka bill kisne pay kiya? Samrat ne "

"kyun le responsibility? Jab uski zindagi mein log hain jo uski zimmedaari utaasakthe hain tho wo kyun tension legi? phir samrat aur tumhaare tho chaltha rehtha haina? Aur yeh kya mayu, bachha koi responsibility nahin hota, khushi hota hain."

"jab koi hoga nahin zimmedaari lenewaala tab?"he insisted

shilpa looked at him,met his eyes and realised that nupur was right. She also knew he wouldnt speak to her about it.

"mayu, tab ki tab dekhi jaayegi. Jis kal ke baare mein humein nahin pata, us ke liye hum apna aaj kyun barbaad karein? " when he made to interrupt," dekh beta maa ki baat maan aur bas usse thoda kam daanta karo. Bichaari tumse pyaar karthi hain, " and got up without waiting for his reply as the door bell rang
