PART 5
Here for the first time a song recommendation:
Inxs- afterglow.
It is a beautiful song and applies perfectly to the situation.
He was lost again, roaming the same lanes as he had done so many times previously in the past month, hoping, waiting and longing to see the only face he dreamt about.
It was nearly a month since he saw Khushi near the temple and every cell in his body hurt to be away from her. The hurt of her not being a part of his life had transformed into a physical pain. A pain that he could no longer bare nor could be heal. He was upset and angry at every person in his life for forgetting her. It was like she never existed to them, lost somewhere as a distant memory. They no longer talked about her, speculated why she left or missed her during the occasions!
It had been two weeks since Payal and Akash's much anticipated engagement and it was the last time someone said her name aloud! The match they had made- Khushi and himself and it took him all the strength he had to smile or behave cordial with every one. The event had been a small one without much hullabaloo after Khushi leaving. There was no one to sing and dance, to make or eat sweets like she did and no one to radiate happiness like her.
Payal no longer asked about Khushi nor did his Di, La or Nani, it was like they did not care and it infuriated him. She gave all her time to them, trying to fulfill their wishes and here they were, they hardly cared! He felt claustrophobic in his house and he spent most of his day at office or in search of her. After another futile search he decided to return home back to the his only solace, his dreams. That was the only part of his being of which she was a part, the happy, smiling Khushi.
As he entered RM, he witnessed a sight that had become very common of late, a teary eyed Di and upset Jijaji. In the past two weeks, Jijaji was more often at home and was easily irritated. He was blowing off steam again on his Di and his insides boiled with the anger. He was already on the brink of losing but decided he did not want to involve himself with this. He would talk to his Di in the morning about Jijaji.
The Guptas were devastated when the truth hit them and all they could do was smile. A half fake smile plastered to their faces as they understood Khushi's words, "don't say a word to anyone." They had agreed to her wish grudgingly because they had no proof. Their hearts cried at the injustice to Khushi but their faces held a smile. Payal no longer inquired about Khushi because she knew the reason she would not return. La had filled Payal about Khushi, the fact that Khushi was fine and she would return soon, though she said she had no idea where Khushi was. Payal only wished that Khushi remained happy and safe!
Khushi on the other hand was trying to move on. A girl who was scared of the dark and never slept alone was trying! She immersed herself in trying to learn more about Shyam to convict him for all the wrong he had committed. After two long weeks she had managed to find Kamalaji. A week to convince her to help them and of course the money that La gave added to her acceptance. She was looking for new leads but was coming up nil. While her days were subjected with investigating Shyam her evenings involved learning English and manners of the elite. Today, there was a different air around her, a difference in the way she carried herself, the way she spoke and the maturity that now obscured her child like innocence.
La was treading paths she had longed to forget. From the past two weeks she was a regular on The small narrow street that lead to a small unkempt house. Arjun Ramesh, a promising and now well known detective cared for none in the world apart from himself. After his previous relationship his girlfriends were limited to one night stands strictly. He loved La immensely even now and that was the only reason he had agreed upon this project.
A month ago La had called up the only name that rang in her head, the one time small detective, Arjun. She had a feeling that Shyam was more than just a cheat after Khushi's first report and decided to hire a detective. Khushi was in the dark about hiring Arjun only because of his fees, she would never agree to La paying all of that.
Arjun, a 6 foot, hard built man with a jovial face leaned on his inconspicuous and weathered bike as he kept a trace of Shyam. The more he dug into the scene the more he disliked this man. His first instinct was to ask La to back off and let him handle Shyam his own way, this guy was crazy and he had to make sure he did not hurt his La. Shyam feasted on others emotions especially despair. He targeted their weakness to meet his evil ends.
La looked knocked on the door thrice waiting for him to answer it. Every time she saw him, something stirred in her stomach. She was hurt when a girl had picked up his phone in the middle of the night instead of him and she felt something now as he answered from behind her, breathing down her neck. She was not ready yet, not after the hurt she suffered the previous time. It had been the final nail in the coffin, she walked out of this life and she had promised herself, she would never return. Today, she was still true to the promise, it was merely professional, for Khushi she told herself.
"I hope i did not keep you waiting?" he said as he made it past her to open the door, in his sing a long voice.
"Not more than usual. In comparison you seem to be on time." she replied, her lips pressed in to a hard line referring to their relationship.
"Hey don't be so hard on me. Come on in."
As La looked around, nothing much had changed in his apartment since the last week. The same untidy room, his shoes and clothes strewn all over the place.
"You will never change. Will you?" she said more to herself than to him as she wrinkled her nose.
"After the uptown RM you will find this place downtrodden, I know. It was after all your dream to make it big, to flash on all channels and page 3 articles, was it not?" he retorted.
He was hurt as she always referred to the past. He was sorry for the way he had behaved and confessed it, but she was still stuck back in time, he thought.
Their first phone call after nearly a year had him soaring on cloud number nine till her professional voice broke into his thoughts.
"Mr. Arjun i would like to hire your services for investigating a certain issue." she said in a business like voice, "I am sorry to disturb you at this hour, i hope i did not break into your personal time but i would like to fix a meeting with you for tomorrow morning." she continued and after a pause she added, "regarding the case." In all this, he heard only the one thing she never said, "I need you."
"It is time, I need to speak to Khushi." he said after staring at Lavanya for a long time.
I know you expected something more but i guess a brief about later was required to describe the whole situation.
I promise the next update will be better and earlier.
Cherrios till then.. Have a nice week and hope that sunday turns up fast!
