I don't know why I still feel that Maan was not entirely at fault. I know what he did was wrong and very careless. But I feel there was some external hand also at play that day. Somebody who tried to harm her some or the other way.
Maan's fault does not ebcome less as he was supposed to protect her. But I feel it was someone else who used the fact to their advantage
Her flashbacks also suggest some link with Haveli. Also, Arjun's reaction is also a tad bit more wierd. Does he know more than he is letting on. Is he scared of her memory coming back?

First of all, thanks for the wonderful comment. I am so happy.
To ur question, yes Arjun is scared of her memory comming back. He could have got her treated probably and helped her but there was a fear in him: How will he face Geet once she remembers him and what will he say to her as an apology. I am not sure if things are clear the way I showed them but for Geet, Arjun was the big brother she never had. It was his responsibility to protect her and keep her out of harms way. But he, contratry to that, was the one to plan this against Geet.
The way I see it, Arjun has to take the biggest responsibility and that is why he is feeling most guilt, feeling so over protective of Geet and behaving a little unrational.
Armaan and Adi also played a role but Maan and Arjun had the biggest responsibility over Geet and that is why these two are the ones to suffer most now.

Hey alfiya, thanks for the long comment, I am touched.
I also agree that these sort of people are disgusting and no amount of excuses can help them justify such behaviour. At this point I also like to add that I am glad that this is fictional and I never met a person who has actually done this in real life... I would have murdered him.
I have, though, seen people who treat u differently from ur looks. I HATE it. The hurt u feel when u r treated differently (because of the way u look for example) is unbearable. Especially if people do it on purpose and also make it obvious. For someone who is strong hearted, they deal with it bravely but Geet was naive and very soft hearted. Maan didn't do right but I hope that what I have planned with him will be at least partly doing justice to what he should go through.

Chapter 22: Kidnapped

Dev had copied a few documents that he thought would be useful. Morning had arrived when he was done and he again thanked Ferri for her help and left. He didn't go back home but called Pinky.

"Pinky, I need to talk to your mother." Pinky was a little sad that Dev didn't call for her but called Amro.

"Ji beta, you wanted to talk?" Amro asked politly.

"Yes aunty. I was wondering if you know a pandit called Acharya Dayaprasad?" Amro thought for a while. She had heard of him.

"Yes beta. I don't know him personally, though."

"Do you know where I could find him?" Again it took Amro a while before she answered.

"He lived in a place not far from the main market in town. I might have his adress." Dev noted it down and thanked Amro. On his way, he called home. Veer heared what Dev had to say, even if he found the entire situation pointless. What Dev had planned was not going to be safe and noone will agree to it. It was especially difficult and dangerous for Geet to take her out of the safety of the hospital and subject her to this idea. Dev tried to convince him and reluctantly, Veer agreed. Dev needed a few days to arrange what he had planned. They counted on Vicky, who was more than willing to help.

A week later, Geet was again discharged. Armaan and Arjun had a long talk and Arjun agreed to let Geet and Maan meet with Dadi and him to talk everything through. He was not convinced by all means but he also couldn't ignore the imense happiness on Geet's face when she was told that they will go to Khurana Mansion and talk with Dadi about her marriage with Maan.

Annie had come to get Geet, Raj and Arohi who had flown in from Mumbai and Arjun, Armaan and Adi followed in the second car. They thanked Annie for her rescue as Arjun still had a few things to talk to his friends about before they all met with Dadi and fixed something.

When they reached Khurana Mansion, Dadi, Yuvraj and Sheilja greeted them.

"Hasn't Geet come?" Arjun asked.

"She is not here, I guess Annie to them to the outhouse to get ready." Inside they talked about this and that and inquired about Geet's health. None dared to ask about what had gotten into Geet that evening. After a further hour, Arjun got slightly edgy.

"Dadi, could you ask Annie to bring Geet?" Dadi called Nakul and asked him to get Annie.

"Lekin outhouse mein to koi bhi nahin hain. Main abhi wahi se araha hu. (But there is noone in the outhouse. I am just coming from there.)" Nakul's announcement made them all jump.

"Kya? To wo log hain kaha? (What? Where are they?) They should be here till now." They checked all rooms in the mansion and Dadi tried Annie's phone but it was unreachable.

"What is going on here?" Maan walked into Khurana Mansion. He had been in office, to catch up on some work and divert his mind from Geet but he couldn't concentrate and came home.

"Geet, Arohi, Annie and Rajeshwari are missing. They all left home at the same time like us but they didn't arrive."

"Did you call Annie or Raj?" Dadi tried Raj's number.

An hour later, Dev returned with Vicky and Veer. They had arranged everything as per plan and now needed to get the others to agree. When they arrived, they got the shocking news.

"What do you mean they didn't arrive? Who drove them?" Vicky asked.

"I don't know your drivers. Annie came with her car so we didn't ask." Veer inquired outside.

"Guys, Bahadur is off today and Chandu drove us. I don't know who drove them then?" The phone rang. Yuvraj picked up.

"Khurana Residence"

"Oye Khurana, sun meri baat. (Oya Khurana, listen carefully.) If you wish to see the four girls alive, then do as I say." Yuvraj listened and so did the others as he had put the phone on speaker. Veer, Maan and Dev balled their fists as they realied who was on the line.

"We have to get Brij. It might be quicker if we go to Hoshiarpur."

"Let us go, you mom and Dadi stay here." Yuvraj saw towards his wife and mother.

"Ok, I will arrange for police and other help. Go and bring all four back, I am counting on you."

Rano saw Brij. Since the day he had returned he hadn't talked a word with her. How could she explain that she had done everything for him. And Pinky was there, too. She glanced nervously towards her but looked away as soon as she spotted Rano look towards her.

"It is Tejawar. He kidnapped Annie, Geet, Raj and Arohi and will only let them free if Pinky and you sign all the document papers. One of his men came to give them to us."

"I don't want this land, this property. How will you do the transfer?" Brij was looking grim. He had had the feeling that things weren't over yet, especially since the police had failed to catch Tejawar.

"We will hand them the papers and they will drop the girls in Delhi itself. They will be safe they said." Veer answered.

"And you trust them?" Veer shook his head.

"We have no chioce. Dad is organising a police rescue as soon as we find out where they are. There are not many places they can go, especially since they are wanted."

"I am coming with you. Pinky, you can stay here if you want. Daarji and Preeti will take care of you and there are others as well."

"No, I am coming with you." Again, Rano saw Pinky look away.

"Beta…" Rano came forward but Brij didn't let her touch him.

"Don't call me that. Do you see what is happening. Can't you see what you have done?" Rano shed more tears but noone bothered.

"Beta please, take me with you." Rano pleaded with Pinky who gave the others an uncertain look. They had no time to waste, the girls were not safe. Rano sat with Pinky during the drive.

"Suman and I used to play a lot together, when we were children." She started out of the blue. The others pretended to be uninterested but listened.

"The villagers often talked about how things used to be in the castle during my grandmother's and great grandmother's time. They were one of the richest people in these part and the castle was full of treasures. It was just rumors but we two loved to explore the castle together and try to find the gold and silver and diamonds. On one visit, Suman told me about a door that she found. She opened it and saw the treasure. I didn't believe her of course and demanded to be led to it. She didn't. It was then that I started noticing the change in her. Small ones but she wasn't the same anymore. I thought it was because Amro and I weren't visiting that often anymore. Amro was much younger to us and we two didn't involve her in all this. Then, Suman started showing signs of madness. I was so frightened. On my last visit, she lost control and attacked me. She was hellbend to harm me and my mother took me away. Mamaji brought Suman somehow undercontrol but I always fear about that day. Noone knows this but I once talked to her, long after we had started to keep our distance." Rano didn't continue, her troat was dry.

"And? What did she say?" Maan asked, intrigued.

"She pleaded me to help her. I didn't know what to do, I said she is mad and I can't do anything. Her tone changed and she spoke in such a terrible, terrible voice to me. She said she will take her revenge from me. I didn't know what I had done or what to do."

"But why did you give Pinky away?" Brij was annoyed. His mother was not coming to the point.

"Because in our family, it is always the girl who suffers from madness like this. Suman wasn't the first one and I feared she won't be the last one." Rano's voice was low. Brij didn't say anything but Pinky put her arm around Rano's head and hugged her reassuringly.

Back home, Yuvraj waited with Inspector Rathore. Arjun, Armaan and Adi used all their connections in town to locate Geet, Arohi, Raj and Annie. Someone must have seen them. Tejawar couldn't leave the city so he must be somewhere in Delhi. But where?

He had said that he will inform them, as soon as they were ready for the exchange. The call came and the police indicated to Yuvraj to keep the kidnapper on the line for sometime, so that they could locate their whereabouts.

"Khurana Re…"

"I know who you are. Did Brij and his sister sign the papers?" the harsh voice of Tejawar echoed through the hall.

"Yes. How are Annie, Raj and Geet and Arohi? I want to hear them speak." Tejawar grunted.

"Fine, wait." They heard some noise and Pammi's voice spoke.

"Oye, baat kar. (Oye, speak.)"

"Hello" Annie sounded weak.

"Annie beta, are you ok? How are the others?"
"Please help us" Annie cried.

"Please help …AAAHHH" the call was cut. Yuvraj called out a few timed but nothing. They waited but got no answer.

Acharya Dayaprasad is Pandit Pandeji's father !!! Plus Purple bits are the english translation to the hindi parts which may be a little difficult to understand.

Chapter 23: Crying Castle

During the turmoiled of getting the area code, which they hadn't managed due to the cut call, Pandeji, the old pandit, walked slowly into Khurana Mansion on his stick. Everyone was so tensed that at first they didn't realise about the newcomer.

"Namaste, mera naam Pandit Pandeji hain. Mujhe kisi ne is pate pe bulaya tha kuch din pehle. (Namaste, my name is Pandeji the priest. I was called to this adress by someone a few days ago.)" Dev came forward.

"Ji panditji, meine hi bulaya tha. (Yes Panditji, I called you.)" He turned towards the others. Inspector Rathore and his men continued to find the loction while Pandeji sat down.

"Dev beta ne bataya ke aap log Roti Hui Haveli se jure hue ho. Kuch din pehle ek ladki ke saath ek hadsa bhi hua? (Dev told me that you are connected to the crying castle. A few days ago there was also an incident with a girl?)" The nodded. He nodded, too.

"Mere pitaji us haveli ko acchi tarha se jaante the. Ranimaa unhe aksar bulaya karti thi. Kya aap us haveli ki kahani jaate hain? (My father used to know the castle well. Ranimaa called him often for work. Do you know the story of the castle?)" The shook their heads. He nodded again.

"Us haveli ka naam roti hui haveli hain, uski ek wajha hain. Ranimaa apni teen betiyon ke saath us haveli mein raha kartithi. Gayatri unki sabse badi beti, unhi ki tara sundar and sabse ladli thi. Uska har hukum sar aakhon par. Bohut pyaar karte the sab us se. Apni maa ki chavvi thi, unhi ki tarha daya dil. Gayatri ki shaadi bari dhoom dhaam se hui thi. Mere pitaji ne karwai thi, mujhe jaad hain. Ranimaa ki dusri beti, Indira sabse hoshiar. Apne gao ki pehli ladki jo videsh gae padne ke liye. Waha ke ek ladke se pyaar hua aur Ranimaa ne mana nahin kiya. Akhir apni beti ki khushi ki baat thi. Uski bhi shaadi mein koi kasar nahin chori Ranimaa ne. Khaas dulhan ke liye banae hue zewar aur kapde. Mehmano ke liye sone ke sikke, itna kharch. (The name of he caslte is crying castle, there is a reason to it. Ranimaa used to live in the castel with her three daughters. Gayatri was the oldest and most loved one and just as beautiful as her mother. She was the apple of everyone's eyes. She was just like her mother, just as kindhearted. Her wedding was done very elaboratly. My father performed it, I remember. Ranimaa's second daughter, Indira, was the cleaver most. She was the first girl of her village to go abroad for her studies. She fell in love with a boy there and Raminaa didn't refuse. Afterall, it was the matter of her daughter's happiness. Even in her wedding, no expenses were spared. There were clothes and jewellery made especially for the bride. Even the guests received coins of gold, so much money was spend.)" He shook his head as he disapproved of so much unnessecary spending, even if for ones own kids.

"Aur akhir mein thi Sharmila. Gayatri aur Indira ke umar mein sir do saal ka faasla tha lekin Sharmila bohut saal baad paida hui. Ranimaa ushe bhi bohut chahti thi, aisa nahin tha ke wo kisi se kum thi. Lekin Sharmila nahin dikhne mein siyada khaas aur nahin padne mein tees thi. Wo apni hi dunya mein koi koi si rehti thi. Phir, ghar mein ajeeb ajeeb haadse hone lage. Kabhi koi cheez tuti hui milti thi, kabhi koi sakhmi hoto tha. Ek baar to pura ghar ka ek hissa jal gaya. (And last there was Sharmila. The age difference between Gayatri and Indira was just two years but Sharmila was born much later. Sharmila was not very pretty and neitehr particularly clever. She was always lost in her own world. Then, strange things started to happen in the house. Things were found broken or people were found injured. Once, even the entire part of the house got burned down.)" Arjun and Maan exchanged glances; the west wing where Arohi got almost injured.

"Pata chala, ke yeh hua kaise? (Did they figure out, how it happened.)" Vicky asked, interupting the pandit. The old man looked up at Vicky with his tired eyes.

"Haan. Ranimaa ne ghar mein naukro ko chupne ko kaha. Pure ghar ke kisi na kisi kaune pe koi na koi nazar rakh tha tha. Aur phir baat bahar aae. Yeh sab hadse Sharmila ke wajha se hue. (Yes. Ranimaa ordered the servants to hid in every possible corner of the house. There was not one place left unsurveilled. And then the matter became clear. All these incidents took place because of Sharmila.)" They gasped in shock.

"Mein nahin kehta ke usne jaan buj ke kiye kyun ki har hadsa raat ko hi hoto tha. Ho sakta hain ke ushe koi bimari thi jo sahi ilaaj ke saath theek hojati. (I wouldn't say that she did all this on purpose as these incidents took place only during night. She might be suffering from a disease which could have been cured with the right treatment.)" At this point, Armaan nodded. She could be sleep walking.

"Ranimaa ko jab pata chala to wo dar gae. Ghar mein do betiyon ki shaadi honi thi aur is waqt, Sharmila ka aise haal. Unhone ne Sharmila pe kadhi nazar rakhne ko kaha, ushe haveli ke bahar to dur ki baat hain, aangan mein khelne bhi nahin diya jaata tha. Us bacchi ko kya pata, uske saath kya horaha hain. Gayatri aur Indira thi jo uske saath khel te the. Phir Gayatri ki shaadi hui aur do saal baad Indira ki shaadi se pehle anarth hogaya. Sharmila ke wajha se pooja ki thaali girgae. Aur ushi din pata chala ke Gayatri ka dihaanth hogaya. (When Ranimaa found out, she was afraid. Two daughters of the family were yet to get married and now Sharmila was in such a state. She put Sharmila under special surveillance and made sure she didn't leave the house at any cost. She wasn't even allowed to play in the courtyard. The poor child, she didn't even know what was going on with her. As long as the two sisters were there, they played with her and kept her entertained but soon they got married off one after the other. Shortly before Indira's wedding, disaster struck. Because of Sharmila, the prayer tray fell down. And the same day the got the news of Gayatri's demise.)" Again the pandit paused. He saw the looks of pity and interest on their faces.

"Ranimaa ne mere pitaji se Sharmila ki nazar utarne ko kaha, lekin phir bhi kuch asar nahin hua. Ghar mein dukh ka mahaul lekin phir bhi Indira ki shaadi hui aur wo chali gae. Ghar mein Ranimaa thi aur Sharmila, bas. Jitni Sharmila ki umar badi gai Ranimaa ko dar lagne laga. Kabhi na kabhi uski bhi to shaadi honi hogi. Sharmila bhi apne shaadi ke sapne sanjoe hui thi.

Lekin Sharmila bechain hoti rahin. Ranimaa aksar Gayatri ke baccho se milti thi. Raj aur Sharda apne pitta ke saath Delhi mein hi rehte the.

Phir Sharmila ko kaise bhi pata chala hoga. Wo bohut dukhi hui aur Ranimaa se jagda karne lagi. Kehte hain ke uski rone ki awaaz pure gao mein sunai detithi. Bechari bacchi. Ranimaa budhi hoti gae aur unki tabihat bhi bigati gae. Sharmila ka dukh aur gussa badta gaya aur ushi ke balahi ke liye, Ranimaa ne usse kamre mein band karwa diya. Lekin phir jo hua, wo nahin hona chahiya tha. (Ranimaa asked my father to remove all evil influence of Sharmila but in vain. The household was in mourning but yet Indira got married and she left. Only Ranimaa and Sharmila were left in the castle. The older Sharmila got, the more Ranimaa got worried for her. At some point, she had to get married. Sharmila also dreamt of her wedding. My father tried all sorts of remedies but her strange behaviour didn't change. After consulting another prist, he found a fault in Sharmila's kundli. If she got married before her 30th birthday, her life and that of her life partner was in danger. After knwoing this, Ranimaa disided that Sharmila won't get married. At first, Sharmila didn't know about this. Everyone hid this fact from her and tried to divert her mind towards other things. But Sharmila got restless. Ranimaa often used to meet Gayatri's children. Raj and Sharda used to come with their father who lived in Delhi with them.

Then, Sharmila somwhow found out. She was extremly sad and also faught with Ranimaa. It is said that her cries were heard in the entire village. Poor child. Ranimaa started growing older and her health also deteriorated. Sharmila's pain and anger grew and for her own good, her mother locked her up in her room. But what happened after that, shouldn't have happened.)" They all wanted him to continue but the old man made a long pause in which he drank some water.

"Panditji, aage kya hua? (What happened next?)" Pinky asked.

"Haan. Ranimaa chal basi. Sharmila ko sab kosne lage. Ranimaa ke jaane ke baad uska koi sathi nahin tha. Bechari ke saath kya kya hua wo wahi jaane. Lekin mein itna jaanta hu, ke wo apne hi kamre mein chalbasi ek din. Uske marne ke baad raat ko gao aur haveli walo ko uske rone ki awaaz sunae deti thi. Uska rona aur gidgirana jab gao walo ko darane laga to mere pitaji ne uske kamre ko khaas tale ke saath band karwa diya, taki uski atma waha se bahar nahin aae. (Yes, Ranima passed away. Everyone started blaming and taunting Sharmila. After Ranimaa died, there was noone to support her. Only she knows what exactly happened to her. But I know this much for sure that she died in her room itself. After her death, the villagers heard her cries. Her cries nad pleading started to scare everyone and hence my father locked the room with a special lock to keep her spirit inside.)" When he finished they all sat silently.

"Panditji, jab hum pichli bar us haveli mein kaya the to hume wo tala khula hua mila. (Panditji, the last time we visited the castle, we found the lock open.)" Pandeji nodded disapprovingly.

"Dev ne bataya. Us haveli mein itne khatarnaq hadse hue is hi ke wajha se. Gayatri ki poti pagal hogae. Kitne log chal base and phir aakhir mein teen jawaan ladko ke bhi maut hogae. Aur ab ek aur ladki ke saat ajeeb haatsa hua, haina? (Dev told me. All those dangerous incidents happened because of this only. Gayatri's granddaughter turned mad. So many people died and at last, three boys found their death there. And now this strange incident happened with this girl, right?)" Arjun stood up. He couldn't think straight.

"Aap ko kya lagta hain, kya Geet… (What do you thing, does Geet…)" Adi didn't complete.

"Lekin Geet us haveli mein gae hi nahin. Wo to haveli ke bahar mil thi hume, wo bhi zinda. (But Geet didn't even go into the caslte. We found her outside the place and very much alive.)" Pandeji was in deep thought.

"Geet. Wo bacchi waha kar kya rahi thi, us haveli ke paas? (Geet. What was the child doing there in the first place?)" Everyones head, apart from that of Pandeji turned to Maan. Maan looked down, not being albe to take the accusatory looks from everybody. He felt suffocated just thinking that Geet was in all this mess because of him.

"Wo to hume nahin pata lekin ab hum kare kya? (We don't know about all that but what shall we do now?)"

"Pehle Geet, Rajeshwari, Arohi aur Annie ka pata miljae. (First we have to locate the four girls.)" Just as Sheilja finished her sentence, Inspector Rathore came running.

"We have good as well as bad news."

"Did you find them?"

"Yes, that is the good news. All four are found and as far as we could make out, alive."

"Then, what is the bad news?"

"They are in Gayatrinagar. The haveli in which they were kept hostage is locked up and we failed in all ways to open those doors. Tejawar, his wife Pammi and their son Lucky are aparently also in there but we have not heard from them. "

"How did you find out?" Yuvraj asked.

"Our men drove past that place because the caretaker, who was found dead at your last visit to the place, was Tejawar's man. They saw a girl walk along the corridor and she called out to them, saying that she was Annie Walkers and they were in the castle."

"Kya baat hain? (What is the matter?)" Pandeji asked. He did not understand English well.

"Geet, uski behen Rajeshwari, dost Arohi aur Annie Roti Hui Haveli mein kaid hain. (Geet, her sister Rajeshwari, her friend Arohi and Annie are kept hostage in the crying castle.)" For the first time, since they saw him, the old man looked disturbed.

"Yeh acchi baat nahin hain. Agar Sharmila ki aatma sach mein waha hain to wo kisi ko bhi nahin choregi. Nahin un kidnappers ko aur nahin us dusri ladkiyon ko. (This is not good. If Sharmila's spirit is returned there then she will not spare anyone. Neitehr her kidnappers, nor the other girls.)" Panick flooded everyone.

Arjun wanted to storm the castle, if necessary break it down but they had no idea where the girls were and the last thing they wanted was to harm them.

"Pandeji, kya aap Sharmila ki aatma ko kaid nahin karsakte? (Pandeji, can't you bring Sharmila's spirit under control?)" Dadi asked.

"Yeh bohut hi mushkil hain. Jab kisi ki atma kamsor ho to use bas mein karna asaan hain. Lekin Sharmila ki atma bohtu he takatwar hain. Itna dard aur gussa usne saha hain, mujhe nahin lagta ke wo asani se shaant hogi. Meri nazar mein ek hi rasta hain. Mujhe Sharmila se khud baat karni hogi. (This is very difficult. It is easy if the spirit is weak but sharmila is strong. She has suffered so much pain and anger that I doubt she will calm down. In my opinion there is only one way. I have to talk to her.)"
