PART 4
Riddhima continued watching Armaan who was busy at the counter clearing the bill after their coffee break..gosh! everytime she looked at him, he seemed to look cuter..she had always liked his dressing sense..he kept it simple and yet..well, cool..he had this charm about him..and that was visible even in the way he presented himself..he had a prankster as well as a smart guy look and for the life of her she didn't know how he pulled it off..
'Hey..the bill's cleared..we'll leave?' he asked her, snapping her out of her thoughts..blushing at her train of thoughts, she nodded..
'Are we going back to college?' she asked as they walked out of place..she looked around and couldn't help but give it a last, fond parting smile..this place held so many memories..she couldn't even begin to count all of them...they'd had some of their most fun as well as serious conversations here..
'Yea..I have another class after this,' Armaan replied as he adjusted the helmet on his head, before giving her the cue to get on the bike behind him..
'I think I'll go home..our last class got cancelled,' Riddhima said, as she made herself comfortable on his bike..she held him cautiously around the waist as the bike roared to life..she still remembered that initially when Armaan just started taking her around on his bike, she would never hold him..it felt too personal..and Armaan too never instructed her to do the same..however, once, they had nearly crashed into another bike and Riddhima had all but fallen off the bike due to lack of support..she hadn't been holding on to the bike or Armaan! Armaan had literally yelled at her that time..after hurriedly making sure she was OK, he had insisted on going to the doctor..she had protested ofcourse, but he had simply silenced her with his glare and dragged her to the doctor wherein he was relieved to know that apart from a few scratches and bruises, Riddhima would live..on the way back, Armaan had taken her hands and placed them around his waist, ordering her to always hold on to him..and through the whole journey back, he had lectured her about traffic rules and safety..it was one of those few incidents that had warmed her heart up..even though he always played it cool when they were with friends, his actions conveyed that he really cared about her..it showed in his small gestures..
'Alright, I'll drop you back home and then go to college,' Armaan said, as he rode towards her place..he had been a regular visitor to her place since the beginning of college..initially he had been a little hesitant to interact with Riddhima's parents but over time, things definitely got more comfortable..Riddhima's mom was really sweet..she had been warm and welcoming to all of Riddhima's friends..but like her daughter, she had a soft corner for Armaan due to his prankster ways..he always made her laugh and yet was respectful in his own way when interacting with her..she liked that quality about him..moreover, she had sort of guessed Riddhima's feelings towards Armaan even though she hadn't heard the same from her daughter..she could make out from the way her daughter would start blushing whenever Armaan was around and ofcourse, the way she would laugh at all his jokes..even the lame ones. She had a feeling they were seeing each other as she felt that even Armaan was quite protective when it came to Riddhima..but it wasn't like either of them were going to tell her anything so all she could do was keep guessing..Shashank on the other hand didn't interact too much with Riddhima's friends..he kept relations with them pretty cordial and as such he didn't have a problem with any of Riddhima's friends..as long as they weren't a bad influence on his daughter, it was OK..however, he was protective about her going out at odd hours and he was pretty strict when it came to stay-overs and outings...
Armaan had always felt a little intimidated by Riddhima's dad..but then he had always felt that way with many of his friends parents..the funny part was even though he had gotten quite comfortable with Padma, he was still a little hesistant around Shashank..but even if Shashank had noticed, he never said anything. He, ofcourse, didn't see Armaan as the guy his daughter had a crush on..he wasn't even aware of anything of that sort..some things, only a mother knows..and it was the same case here..for him, Armaan was just one of Riddhima's friends.
'Aaand, we're here,' Armaan announced as he halted his bike outside Riddhima's place..
'Coming in?' Riddhima asked, hoping he'd say a yes but no such luck today..Armaan had a class to attend and there was only so much bunking in a day that he permitted himself.
'I need to attend the next hour Ridz..maybe some other time,' he smiled and gave her a warm hug before getting on the bike and making his way to college again...Riddhima stood looking after his bike, long after it had zoomed off out of sight..his hug had made her feel warm...she liked his hugs..they always enveloped her entire being and she felt as though she was wrapped up in her favourite warm blanket..
She stepped inside her home only to get the most yummy smell of food...it seemed like Padma had baked her daughter's favourite treat-brownie cake..when Riddhima was small, Padma used to experiment with a lot of treats-brownies, cakes, muffins etc etc and Riddhima, always being on the little chubby side, used to do justice to all in terms of eating..however, there was always this extra sparkle in her eye when her mom made brownie cakes..it was her mamma's special recipe and she very proudly exhibited the same to all her friends in school and later in college as well..
'Mammaaa, I'm hoome,' Riddhima announced as she entered the kitched, only to be proved right..yes, her mom was making her favourite snack..
'Yumm, brownie cake?' Riddhima asked excitedly as she gave her mom a bear hug from behind.
Padma simply laughed and turning, ruffled Riddhima's hair and said, 'Yes, it is your one and only favourite..ab jao, go and freshen up..till then I'll have it ready on the table..'
'Ok, I'll be down in two minutes,' saying Riddhima hurriedly gave a small peck on her mom's cheek before rushing upstairs..she had always been a total foodie, not caring about her weight..she loved eating and mostly she ate everything..even as a kid, Padma remembered, she had never been fussy about food..while other kids would give their moms a tough time during family parties, Padma had to literally pull Riddhima away from the buffet table..but it was good, Padma smiled, it wasn't as though her Ridz was fat..she exercised as much as she ate, thus retaining her good figure..however, she did have chubby cheeks but Padma found that the most adorable feature of her daughter..
As Riddhima came downstairs after 20 minutes, she could see two plates set out on the table with generous helpings of her favourite food..
'Maa, did I ever mention you're the best,' Riddhima sighed as she dug into the food from the work go..
'Acchha ab don't try to flatter me too much now..I'm not going to make this everyday..it's not good for health,' Padma mock scolded her as she watched her daughter eat..
'Haan, tho maine kab kaha roz banane keliye?' Riddhima said, over a mouthful, 'I'll get bored of it within no time,'
'Itne saalon mein toh bore nahin hui,' Padma smiled and Riddhima couldn't help but give her mother a sheepish grin.
'How was class today?' Padma asked..they usually had this one hour of mother-daughter bonding time after Riddhima came back from college everyday wherein Riddhima would have a light snack and fill in Padma on whatever was happening in college while Padma would simply listen to her daughters stories..she loved the kind of relationship they shared..even though Riddhima didn't share everything with her(eg. Armaan), she shared most of the stuff and for that Padma was grateful..they shared a great bond and Padma knew she could trust Riddhima..she was a good kid who knew how to handle herself..the only time, Padma had felt Riddhima behaving a little silly was when it came to Armaan and that was another indicater that her daughter felt more than friendship towards that prankster..
'Actually, I bunked one hour,' Riddhima said sheepishly..and as Padma raised her eyebrows, Riddhima hurriedly explained that it had been soo long since she and Armaan had spoken..they just wanted to hang out for a while..and anyways, she would definitely copy the missed notes tomorrow and work extra hard to catch up..even though Padma was cool about a lot of things, bunking college was not something she was going to smile about...
'Hmm..ok..as long as you do what you say and Ridz, next time se college ke baad chale jaana..bunking college to catch up with friends is unnecessary and not needed,' Padma said, with a mild stern voice..this is where she drew the line between friend and parent and Riddhima knew that all too well..
'Yes mamma,' she nodded..she knew there was no reason to give that extra detail of bunking class to her mom but it was OK..her mamma was her mamma in the end..and these sort of things were 'chalta hai' with her..
'And speaking of that devil Armaan, how is he?' Padma asked, letting go of the bunking topic quickly..even she knew that in college, thoda bunking was allowed but then she also had to advise Riddhima, being her parent and all.
'Armaan is fine..but you know kal usne class mein kya kiya? he was just telling me..' and off she went with the funny stories Armaan had shared with her today resulting in both mother and daughter giggling away to glory..ofcourse, the secrets and personal things that he shared with her were always safe with her..she never shared those with Padma..even though, Padma was her mom, Armaan was her bestest friend and she couldn't ever bring herself to betray his secrets..even if it was only to her mother...
Awww i loved this over protective side of Armaan its really sweet! :D
