Chapter 10
Maan: Don't worry I won't do anything...tonight...(he winks at her...) lets go back into our house...
She slowly gets out of the car...Maan pushes her against the door, pressing his weight onto her..she gasps...when she feels his hands on her thigh on both sides slowly moving upwards..
I hope you are ready for tomorrow night...I know I sure am..
he turns her around so that her back was against the chest..he pulls her hair up..so she is looking straight...he whispers threateningly against her ear
Look at this house..make it very clear inside your head...YOU CANNOT ESCAPE FROM THIS HOUSE...
She puts her hand on top of his that was holding her hair...he lets go of her hair and moves back a little...he holds her hand dragging her inside. He stops at the doorstep of the house. Geet looks at him..he takes out his mangalsutre and holds it in front of her face...he ties the mangalsture around her neck...) How can I forget this...(he looks at her and picks her up...she looks around the house...it was messy with everything broken...) Don't look too shocked...I left the mess on purpose...(he puts her down...) so that you know what kind of pain I went through...(he bends down picking up a broken glass...) That is how I felt, like this broken glass, when you betrayed me. When you left me like this...
She starts backing up as Maan comes closer and closer to her with a broken glass in his hand...she hits her back against the wall...he slams his hand against the wall...he holds the broken glass in his hand..and cuts himself on the arm..she looks at him horrified as his blood drip on the floor...) This pain is nothing compared to what you gave me...(He fills her maang with his blood...) I have been through worse..I won't let anyone break me this easily...
He moves away from her..Geet looks at him shocked..trying to understand what he meant...what did he go through? What was his past? Her eyes move down to the floor which was getting red each minute as his blood drips. She goes near him and holds his hand. He turns around looking at her...she rips her dupatta to tie it around his hand but Maan moves his hand away from hers.
"This pain was caused by you and now you are trying to cover it up by showing your concern?" She moves closer to him again..she takes his hand again..and ties the dupatta on his hand...after that she moves back from him a little...Maan smirks looking at the tied wound..he then looks at her..."Don't think you are spared for tomorrow night.." (He calls the servant to serve them food. After eating, he takes her upstairs..he lies her down on the bed...she just lays there closing her eyes...)
It has been two weeks now. Two weeks of suffocation and entrapment. He controlled her life now...he was everywhere she went. He knew everything about her and yet she knew nothing about him besides his name. She wanted to ask him so many times but couldn't get enough courage. She wanted him to leave her life. Geet looked at Maan as they sat in a restaurant.Everything around her spoke money and class. She didn't belong here..this wasn't her...she looked at the food in front of her barley touching it. She made funny faces...she hated Italian...the smell, the taste everything...she looked at Maan as he drops his spoon looking at her with folded hands.
Maan: Why aren't you eating?
Geet: What do you want from me? Do hafte hogaye hai...
Maan: Woh toh mujhe bhi maloom hai..magar joh maine pucha hai uska jawab do. Khana kyun nahi touch kiya?
Geet: woh mujhe yeh sab pasand nahi (she pushes the plate a little...Maan smiles..)
Maan: What do you like?
Geet: Mujhe ghar jana hai...(angering Maan...he gets up and pays the bill. He takes her hand taking her out of the restaurant. Geet stands near the car...Maan looks at her punching the car window...)
Maan; Do you know what I want? I want you to become mine..(she looks at him shocked and nodes her head no. He holds her by the waist...) NO? (he looks at her with one eyebrow) There's one thing you don't know Geet...I don't take NO for an answer...(She pushes him away with tears and runs away from him. She runs all the way to her house...locking the door of her bedroom. She drops on the bed crying, his words replayed over and over again in her head like a broken record...She didn't know what to do. How can she tell her parents. She didn't want to marry him. He scares her...his thoughts, words everything scares her. How can she tell her father about him? She hated being so vulnerable. She sat up on the bed after a lot of thinking. She washes her face and goes downstairs to see her parents there.
Mohindar (looks at her..) Geet puttar what happened? Everything okay?
Geet (plays with her dupatta nervously) Papa I want to go somewhere else for my collage. (Both of her parents were shocked)
Rano: What do you mean? Is there any problem at your college?
Mohindar: Is somebody bothering you? Who is it? Tell me. (he holds her hand)
Geet: Its nothing like that...I had looked up another collage which I thought would be better. I had already applied to it. Just last week I received a confirmation letter that I got in. I was waiting for the right time to tell you guys. And plus I am almost done with undergrad studies here. I want to go somewhere different for my masters.
Mohindar: Where?
Geet (looks down) America.
Rano: What? How can we let you go that far? No I won't have it
Geet: Mumma please the collage is the best. Please don't say no
Mohindar: Your mom is right. America is a foreign country. How can we let you go there by yourself.
Geet: Please papa you always told me I am not your daughter but your son. Have faith in me. I will be fine. It is really important for me. Please say yes.
Rano: The fees. The cost..how can we afford it?
Geet: I saved money for it. I will be working and going to collage at the same time. I am ready for it. please don't say no.
Mohindar: Okay. fine. If you insist. (Geet hugs him and goes upstairs in her room. "I won't stay here anymore. Thanks to you I have to leave my family and go far away from you.")
Geet wakes up when she felt someone tickling her. She saw Maan looking at her. She moves away.
Maan: Good morning. Today is very special day...(She looks at him knowing what he was talking about. He gets up to go his closet. He takes out a package giving it to Geet..) You will wear this tonight. (She looks inside and saw a red saree with matching jewelry...she drops the package on the bed...) Already feeling nervous? (He holds her by the waist) Wait till tonight. (he gives her a kiss...)
Geet sat in her room the next day. She was glad it was the weekend so she didn't have to see Maan. She was actually feeling happy about going to America. Away from him. Starting all over again with new people and friends. Her mom and dad were going crazy making a litst of things she might need for America. She was so glad to get the best parents. They were so understanding and caring. She goes downstairs for breakfast.
Rano: Geet puttar I want you to go to the market to get grocery for lunch. I totally forgot to tell your father.
Geet: Sure mom just write down what you need and I will get it. (Rano smiles. After eating, she made her way out of the house carrying a basket. As she was walking, someone grabbed her from the behind and dragged her to the dark alley. From the touch she knew who it was. She looks at him as he looks at her with anger...)
Maan: Where are you going?
Geet: Market...(she looks down unable to take his anger...he pins both of her hands up against the wall..so she couldn't push him...) please let go of me.
Maan: Have you thought about what I said to you yesterday? (Geet doesn't say anything...) ANSWER ME! (She looks at him scared..closing her eyes) I will marry you no matter what...
Geet: I can't...(she says weakly)
Maan (laughs) Sure you can...and pretty soon you will know that...(he lets go of her...she drops on her knees feeling weak of what he said...he leaves her in the alley...)
Geet walks slowly while Maan had her eyes closed. Tonight was the night. Tonight is when he will do what he promised. She wore his saree and jewelry he had presented her. Not that she had any choice. The whole day she sat in her room dreading for this night to not come. That something happens or have this night pass somehow but alas her luck was not with her. She hears a door open. Slightly, he pushes her inside the room. He slowly opens her eyes. Everything was decorated..every single corner was covered with flowers. She turns around when she hears the door being closed. Maan stood against the door with arms folded. Geet backs up a little. Maan comes towards her. She stands against the bed post looking at him. He leans forward towards her.
Maan: You are looking beautiful tonight. (he pulls her by her waist...I have waited so long for this night. He caresses her waist..making small patters...he bends down on his knee..slowly removing the saree pallu from her waist..revealing her stomach. Geet takes a deep breath when she felt him kissing her stomach. He scratches her stomach a little with his beard...she holds on to the bed post for support. He stands up on his feet and picks her up. He puts her down on the bed..she lays there like a statue...he caresses her face with the back of his fingers. He leans down and kisses on her lips. He slightly bites her lips...she muffles her moan and pain...he holds her hand and kisses her wrists..one by one he removes her bangles. She kept her eyes closed..just letting him do whatever he wanted with her. She had no other option. Maan kisses her arm as he moves up...he takes off her necklace and kisses her on her neck and shoulders. He removes her blouse strap from her shoulder while kissing her. He stops when he felt something wet on his cheek. He wipes it and looks at her. She was crying with her eyes closed. He sits up and gets off of her. He throws the lamp on the floor in anger. Geet jumps...Maan looks at her pulls her up.
Maan: Why can't you accept me? Why? (he pushes her down on the bed and gets on top of her..he removes her sari pallu. He puts his hand on top of her chest...kissing her neck..while feeling her. He keeps assaulting her roughly trying to get her to accept him. Geet just laid there letting him do whatever. He gets up and leaves the room. Geet sits up when she hears the door slam.
