Chapter 12 - Skeletons
Geet had just placed the necklace she had been wearing on her bedside table when her bedroom door was pushed open. She turned to see Maan, stood in the doorway fuming as he slammed the door shut behind her.
She frowned, confused as he stalked towards her. She gulped and tried to move back, but she had already been stood against the small table.
Before she could move, Maan was already in front of her, daring her to move away with his eyes. Geet stood still, knowing full well he would not let her go.
"Do you know that Yash from before?" he asked, his voice dangerously low.
She shook her head. "No."
"You looked cosy with him earlier."
"He's... nice."
"Nice?"
Geet was annoyed now. What right did he have to question whom she talked to in the house? Granted, it was his estate, she worked & lived under his roof, but he didn't control her.
She had had enough of being controlled her whole life. She wasn't about to let it happen again.
"I didn't realise I had to report what I do each day back to you," she spat out. "Can I leave now?"
Maan leaned forward, placing both his hands on either side of Geet, trapping her in. "What do you think about Sasha then?"
Geet, whose eyes had fallen to the floor, shot up & looked at Maan, who was observing her, a whole array of emotions evident in his dark eyes.
"She is of the Malhotras, they're respectable people," Geet managed to say, her heart feeling heavier as she recalled seeing Maan & Sasha together.
He scoffed. "You don't need to lie to me, Geet."
"I'm not lying," her voice wavered, & Maan smirked as he brought his hand up to her collarbone.
Geet felt his touch send a shiver through her entire body. "What are you doing?" she asked, lifting her own hand to stop his caresses but he laced her fingers with his, his fingers trailing over her smooth skin. He moved his fingers down as Geet's breath hitched. She thought she saw a faint smile on his face as he moved to the left side, his hand resting on her heart above her dress.
"It hurts here," he whispered, looking at Geet intently. "It hurts here when you see me with someone else. And do you want to know how I know this?"
She looked down at their hands, still interlinked with each other.
"Because it hurts me to see you with someone else too."
Her hazel eyes flashed up at his, both of them lost in a moment where their eyes spoke more than their words ever could.
"Mr Maan! Miss Geet!"
Maan backed away as Madhuri's panicked voice shot through the whole house. Geet moved her fingers out of his hold as she brushed past him, her door flying open as she rushed downstairs, followed by Maan.
"Somebody help!"
Geet identified Madhuri's voice coming from the kitchen. She ran in, & gasped as Madhuri cowered over Amelia who lay on the floor, writhing, her small arms & legs kicking around.
"She's having a fit," Maan stated matter of factly as he stood afar & watched the two women attempt to calm Amelia down.
Yash returned from the garden, out of breath. "I've called for a doctor," he panted, wiping his forehead with the cloth that rested on his shoulder.
"Amelia," Geet whimpered, her heart breaking as she watched the little girl suffering in circumstances beyond their control.
