@all...I hope I have managed to write as I wanted to...😆
Part 20:
Nupur and Varun were back from their heavily but perfectly arranged and scheduled shopping.
As Nupur dropped the bags on the couch and saw excited but a bit exhausted Varun dropping some of the bags along with her, she smiled. Somewhere she had, unspakingly, developed the feeling that Varun must have developed huge resentment against her, for the decisions she had taken for him or the way she had been so strict with him last year, even Mayank had suggested that to her, sh remembered. And, according to her, may be he was right. Varun was just a kid who wasn't grown up enough to show such maturity as not to think so.
Her heart urged her to talk her heart out to Varun, cautiously and obviously un-hurtingly, but something held her back always, she didn't know what. She knew sh had to let that go, for that is what sh was supposed to do.
Leaving all her dilemma-seeking mind these days, she walked inside the kitchen and came up with 2 glasses of water and keeping her's aside, she wnt upto Varun and handed him the glass of water and reaching for the napkin close by, she started doing away with the freshly formed sweat beads on Varun's forehead that seemingly irritated him.
Varun's expression told her that he was a bit taken aback but he said nothing, NUpur noticed it and ignored it with a smile. It is rightly said, children form opinions too soon and however Varun was happily taking care of Nupur when she had burnt her hand, he hardly supposed that Nupur had missed him as much. Well, he was wrong there, because Nupur had achingly missed him more than he could assess.
Looking at Nupur's smile, however, Varun couldn't hold himself from asking, thereby shocking Nupur,"Mom, umm….are you not mad at me….now?"
Nupur blinked her tear away that was uncalled for completely. She teased it with her keeping up smile and said, "Not at all. I was never mad at you Varun"
Varun asked promptly, fearing a storm of an answer suddenly, though it was uncharacteristic to Nupur to take Varun that way usually, but Varun couldn't forget last year's encounter, "So why did you punish me Mom?"
Nupur blinked another tear, twice, thrice. Bringing about that topic by Varun had suddenly made her feel all the guilt surface up that she had assembled in all this time. She couldn't smile anymore.
She landed herself beside Varun, holding him closely and speaking to her child the way she wanted to, the way he wanted to, "Varun! I was NOT punishing you." She spoke very softly, could only trust her every single word. Suddenly seeing the tear in her eye made not want an answer; he allowed his tears to glide too.
Nupur continued, "I a sorry baby, I was so strict with you but Mama loves you and I couldn't see you making mistakes, lie or loose onto the beauty of life along with its rules, discipline, your pride….everything…"
Varun saw himself being hugged tightly by his Mother and he felt he was back to his home, the place he had felt like reaching a lot of times in some recent past times. And his Mother was right, her every word made him recall what she must mean and he had changed a little and understood a little too, what she meant by all that she had said. She was his very own Mother, which he feared he would or would not see again. He didn't care about his tears, like his Dad used to say - boys don't cry, when he found peace in his Mom's hand on his head and her hold. All that he had managed to be angry for, with Nupur, was happily dug in its grave. He was happy.
He knew he had to apologize for not being the boy, his Mom expected him to be, not reclusive or extra-good but civil atleast, he knew, "Mom I am s-sorry"
Nupur pulled out and wiping his every single trace of the unwelcomed-tear, she said, "Shh! No more crying, okay" and hugging him lightly again she pulled out again and asked, "So are you too still angry at your rude Mom?"
Varun tried to repeat Nupur's action of wiping up the unheavenly-tear, for it was just so hard to see his ever smiling Mom in tears, he said, "Mom!"
Nupur laughed softly at his gesture and both did leave the answer, unanswered.
Nupur could suddenly manage a bright smile when she said, "Okay so how is you new school?"
Varun smiled,"Its good Mom, I have so many friends there. And I love the sports activity there specially football and"
Nupur had always taken the updates about his school from him regularly but Varun had never seemed as excited as he was today. She was glad he had liked it there but now his return to his old school was due and she would soon decide it with Varun. Until then she had let Varun speak of all that he had experienced there. She noticed that his way to talk about it all was a new way for her too, he seemed excited to share it all but spoked as casually as he could as if it didn't matter much but Nupur could read his expressions high and low, just right.
Varun talked until he could, until he fell asleep in Nupur's lap. Well today Nupur was tired for nothing for Varun had brought back all the energy back in her, the one she had forgotten was natural to her once.
Being in sync with once child was the treasure she had finally managed to hunt. She was super-happy today. Her faint dark circles were marred by her bright smile now, well those dark ones almost looked fake make-up now. She slept too resting her back on the couch with her hand still on Varun's firm and soft head.
Mayank would have died for that sight but well he didn't need to, he would very much watch it alive soon.
