Chapter 7

Mayank did not look at her or show any expression, his face was totally blank and she could not interpret anything, her head started to throb, this is too much, why is life so tough?

'Let's just get you settled first,' he said and started the engine.

On the other side Rati was confused, 'something is wrong, something is terribly wrong,' she thought to herself and tried to calm her curious nerve, she is not going to let her emotions affect her health, she was determined to gain her memory back and that too very soon, she is not going to trouble Mayank or anyone else around her suffer because of her, Rati's chain of thoughts were broken when Mayank held her hand to help her get down from the car, his touch made her feel something inside her body which she couldn't infer, they entered the house and saw a lady in her early forties waiting for them with a pleasant smile on her face. Mayank introduced the lady, Jane as the caretaker of his grandmother and a trained nurse who was the one took care of his grandmother after she got sick. After saying a hello to Jane, Rati diverted her concentration to the house which was fairly huge and warm to live a peaceful life.

'Your rooms are all ready and would you two prefer to have something to drink, it must have been a long drive?' Jane asked.

'Thank you Jane and it will be great if you could bring some tea,' said Mayank taking Rati towards the staircase which will lead them to their rooms. Jane left by asking them to settle them in the room and she'll will be there shortly, with that Mayank swiftly carried Rati into his arm as if itwas his daily routine. Rati couldn't make it to open her mouth to protest as being held so close to him again made her sense go numb, and she regained her sense after Mayank placed her on a huge bed and tucked the blanket softly around her.

'Ok done, now you can rest I'm sure you must be feeling very tired after all it was a long day,' He said and Rati couldn't help but to smile at his concern he was a kind human being and helpful too, suddenly the question regarding her mother erupted in her, 'Is my mother dead?' her lips spilled the question before her mind could stop, he stared at her for some time and settled next to her on the bed, holding her hand, 'the answer is, I don't know anything about your mother or family,' he said and she really didn't know what she should think or how she should react, 'You mean that I have never shared anything about my family with you even after being engaged to you?' he nodded in affirmation, 'You know nothing about them, I just cant I'.' she was feeling totally upset whatever the hope she was having about knowing her family from Mayank went astray, Seeing her eye twinkle with tears though she managed to hold it back without letting it flow, Mayank her shoulders and took her into his embrace, he was continuously running his hand on her long straight hair to calm her down and tightening his hold more on her he tried to induce some energy into her body, feeling the warmth of affection and the days exhaustion made her weak body doze off after sometime.

She woke up finding herself warmly wrapped in the blanket, brushing off all the sleepiness from her eyes she tried to sit leaning on to the head board of the bed just then there was a knock on the door which she answered it with a 'come-in'. Jane entered holding a tray which was full with some food and a glass of juice, seeing Rati struggling she made the tray rest on the bedside table and helped her to settle comfortably.

'I'm bothering you'll a lot' said Rati feeling guilty for not even being able to at least do these small things by herself.

'Oh not at all, It's my duty to take care of you and there's no way you're saying such things again,' said Jane with a kind tone giving her the tray of food 'and I hope that I'll be able to help you gain some weight by feeding some healthy and delicious food.' Rati smiled and said a thank you.

After finishing the meal with lots of effort, Jane helped her to change into fresh pair of dress. 'Do you need anything else to be done? If not I'll make my leave' said Jane after making Rati rest on the bed.

'Umm' Aren't you staying here at night?' Rati asked with a bit of hesitation.

'Mr.Sharma will be here,' seeing Rati's expression of discomfort 'Try not to worry, It's natural for you to feel awkward with no memory at all but I can assure you that we'll put everything on its place very soon' she assured her. Jane left with some more assuring words and Rati felt far better and slipped into a deep slumber.

She woke up startled and saw a tall built man bending closer to her and his hands reaching her, she screamed saying, 'Don't you dare touch me' go away'.' And used all her energy to leap out from the bed,'

'Calm down dear, I just..'

Hearing him talk, 'Oh Mayank'.' She said feeling highly embarrassed.

'It's ok take it easy,' Mayank held her and made her sit on the bed. 'No one is going to harm you, I'm here with you always,' He said softly taking her into his embrace.

Recovering from the shock, Rati quickly asked Mayank, 'Did any man try to hurt me or something? I'm having this weird feeling inside'.' She said moving away from him.

'I don't know,' said Mayank his eyes reading her face.

She remembered what Mr.Singha told her about the causes for memory loss, is it an emotional stress plus the accident the reason for her state? She can somewhat say that because all these weird and scary feelings cannot come into her mind just because its blank, no there is something more, she thought.

Mayank was still sitting closer to her on the bed and she felt herself going all warm after noticing her attire, she was dressed in a bit revealing night dress with thin straps on her shoulders, 'You're shivering,' said Mayank looking at her and moved his gaze away after seeing her dress and not to forget her scarlet cheeks. She covered herself by leaning properly on the bed, under the blanket to avoid any further awkwardness.

In no time Mayank had this mischievous glint in his eyes and said, 'Anyway you look beautiful with this complexion,' he hinted looking at her cheeks on the other side she felt herself turning warmer than she was before.

'Ok now, I think you should go back to sleep, it's nearly midnight,' he said moving away from the bed. 'Is it ok for me to leave? Are you feeling better?' he asked with a soft caring voice.

'Yes you can thank you so much for being there'' she said being highly grateful.

'Never say thank you for that it's my pleasure to be there for you,'

'No but you're here staying with me' what about your office at London,' she said feeling guilty for keeping away from his work.

'What will I do in London when my girl needs me by her side,' he said with a slight grin but she didn't fail to recognize the care in his tone, she was feeling highly elated to hear him address her as 'his girl.'

'I'll leave and have the door of my bedroom open, you can just call me out if you need anything, Have a good nigh sleep,' he said giving her a slight peck on her cheeks. Staring at his retreating figure she brushed her finger over her cheeks where his lips were residing some seconds back, the feeling was very fresh and it was giving her shivers without thinking too much about the slight contact of his lips on her skin she decided to get some sleep.

Though she got a good night sleep she was up quite early, she was still on bed wondering what she should do till it dawns and Jane reaches, then she realized how much she's being dependent on Mayank and Jane, she wanted to try out bathing by herself thinking she slowly got down from the bed and reached the bathroom. Completing the morning necessities she found herself soaping her body softly, seeing some bruises on her body made her think about the incident which occurred when Mayank came to check upon her last night, she was highly embarrassed with her reaction, poor him must have felt really bad being yelled back at that time. But was she attacked by some men' she stopped there she didn't want to think about it anymore, once for these few days she was glad that she didn't have any memory about what happened to her. After washing herself she reached to the towel and got her body dried but suddenly felt her knees giving up on her, she was not able to hold her weigh she somehow used up all her energy to wrap herself in the towel and sat on the bathroom stool, she felt extremely exhausted she didn't have even a bit of energy to go out of the bathroom, but she started shiver the towel around her was wet, just then there was a knock on the door which followed by Mayank's voice, 'I'm glad to know that you're having bath on your own,' said Mayank and Rati did not miss sarcastic touch which was there, 'I'm definitely not inviting you in here,' she said trying to show him that she's doing perfectly fine, she did not at all want him to witness her just wrapped on a towel.

'You..' He started off toughly, but then said rather softly, 'You were ill,' after a small pause, 'I'm waiting for you out here,'

'I'll be there just give me few minutes,' She cannot just send off the person who has been so good to her from the beginning, thinking she yet again tried to gain some strength but failed miserably and dropped the soap holder which made a noise enough to alarm Mayank.

'What's happening there? You need any help?' his concerned voice made her ask, 'Is Jane around there?' helplessly.

Mayank entered the bathroom opening the door in a hurry, and she saw his face muscle relax seeing her seated on the stool, Rati was feeling too stunned to react but recovered quickly and hugged herself tight wrapping her arm around her body which was wrapped in a wet towel, Anyhow Mayank did not seem to be considering her worries he was too busy in making sure that she was fine. Taking a dried towel and wrapping up her shoulder with that he took her in his arms and led her into the bedroom, making her rest on the bed he moved to the wardrobe to fetch a pair of dress for her to change, handing her the dress he left the room closing the door behind him.

He did not even utter a single and this made Rati regret her action, but she just wanted to do something by herself she didn't mean to hurt him. Changing into the fresh pair of clothes she tried to comprehend Mayank's reaction on seeing her sitting on the bathroom stool unable to move, was he'. But before she could complete her sentence Mayank entered her room after knocking the door just to inform her that he's coming.

'Here have this you'll feel better,' he said giving her a cup of coffee which was hot enough to make her shiver go away.

'Thank you and I'm sorry,' she said feeling really bad for bothering him by trying to be over smart she should have waited for Jane to reach, her eyes were twinkling with unshed tears and her voice was shaky.

He sat on the chair closer to the bed, his face showing no signs of hurt or anger, 'oh my' Is my girl going to cry for such a thing,' he said trying to cheer her mood, but seeing no sign of recovery, 'don't worry it happens, I can understand' I'm repeating this, I'm here beside you always,' he said supportively and Rati gave him a weak smile, 'so now that you are up early tell me what would you like to have for your breakfast?

'Isn't Jane coming today? She asked with a confused face.

'Umm.. she called me early in the morning and apologized saying that she'll reach two hours late today as she is stuck up with some work,'

'Oh' anything you could manage with, I'll be fine,' she said not wanting to bother him more it has already crossed the limit for the day.

'By the way I hope you are not saying this because you're doubting on my cooking skills, but madam mind it I'm a world class cook,' he said raising his collar. Rati could not help but to laugh out loud looking at his cute tactics to make her feel comfortable, seeing her laugh he smilingly left the room to cook a delicious breakfast and prove his remark.

After having the mouth watering breakfast prepared by Mayank the day went on smoothly, and Rati felt herself relax a bit, Jane arrived late that day and stayed till late keeping her occupied by chatting on various topics while Mayank was busy in the study. She went to sleep after having her dinner sitting on the bed, unlike her day the night was full of scary nightmares, she could not make it to have a peaceful sleep she was trembling with fear, when she woke up startled seeing some scary looking demons haunting her, the darkness in the room did nothing but increase her turmoil, she was scared and confused at the same time why was she having such dreams? She wondered as she switched on the bedside lamp.
