Chapter #8

"Maa, aapne itni badi baat mujhse kyun chupaayi?", Nupur stiffly asked Radhika who was in deep thoughts. Both were standing facing each other.

"Maa, I'm asking you something. Aapne mujhe kyun nahi bataaya ki aapne uss aadmi se paise liye hai? Why the hell didn't you tell me?", Nupur asked again. Her voice was a little high and her eyes were wide in anger.

Radhika turned her face to the other side and weakly said, "Beta, tumhari shaadi ke liye paiso ki bohot zarurat thi. Mujhe aur koi raasta nazar nahi aaya, issi liye-"

Cutting Radhika's statement, Nupur asked in disbelief, "Aapne ek bar bhi nahi socha ki agar mujhe yeh baat pata chalegi toh main kaise react karungi? How could you do this, maa? Jis insaan se main nafrat karti hu, aapne ussise hi-" She stopped as mixed emotions took over her. She was angry but she felt like to cry, too. Yet she didn't want to fall weak in front of her mother.

Turning back, she coldly declared, "Jab tak main uss aadmi ko uske paise vapas nahi karungi, main shaadi nahi karungi."

"Beta, tu yeh kya kehe rahi hai? Yeh kaise ho sakta hai? 4 din mein 2 lacs ka intezaam kaise hoga?", Radhika asked Nupur, shocked.

"Ho jaayega.", Nupur said and left the room.

Nupur came out of the room wiping her tears, just when; a girl came to her and said, "Nupur didi, Riddhima aapko bula rahi hai."

Faking a smile, she said, "Tu chal, main aati hu." The girl nodded and left, and Nupur, fixing her dupatta and hairstyle, pretended to be normal, went back to the Haldi celebration and sat beside Riddhima.

"Haan Riddhi, bol."

"Kaha chali gayi thi? Kabse aawaz de rahi thi, phir Diya ne kaha ki tu andar room mein hai. Kya hua? Koi baat hai kya?"

"Baat? Nahi toh!", Nupur said with a shaking voice.

"Tu pareshaan sound kar rahi hai, Nupur.", Riddhima said worriedly.

"Riddhi, aisi koi baat nahi hai.", Nupur said, controlling her overwhelming feelings.

"Nupur, yeh sach hai ki main tujhe dekh nahi sakti but I can feel that you are tensed. Baata, kya baat hai?", Riddhima said Nupur in an ordering tone.

"Tu nahi maanegi naa?", Nupur asked.

"Jaanti hai toh phir poochti kyun hai?", Riddhima said with attitude.

Nupur smiled slighty seeing her sister's attitude and holding Riddhima's wrist, she seriously said, "Chal mere saath." Saying that, she took Riddhima inside the room and closed the door.

Both sisters sat on the bed opposite to each other.

"Riddhi, maa ne mere shaadi ke liye loan li hai.", Nupur informed Riddhima.

"Haan toh?", Riddhima confusedly asked and continued, "Iss mein worried hone ki kya baat hai?"

"Maa ne loan papa se liya hai.", Nupur said in disgust.

"Kya?", Riddhima said, dumbfounded.

"Haan Riddhi. Aur aab who ghatiya insaan maa ko paiso ke liye pareshaan kar raha hai. Aur maine maa se kaha hai ki jab tak unke paise unko vapas nahi kar deti, main shaadi nahi karungi.", Nupur said.

Kitne paise ki loan li hai?", Riddhima asked with a scared look.

"2 lacs.", Nupur informed.

"Itne saare paiso ka intezaam kaise hoga, Nupur?", Riddhima asked tensely.

"Pata nahi, par itna maine decide kar liya hai ki I won't get married until I repay his loan back.", Nupur determinedly said.

"Nupur, I guess tujhe Mayank se iss bade mein discuss karna chahiye.", Riddhima suggested.

"Riddhi, tera dimaag sach mein kharaab ho gaya hai.", Nupur said and rolled her eyes.

"Nupur, he is your to-be-husband and he can help you, I'm sure.", Riddhima said.

"Tu paagal hai kya? Main Mayank se paise lungi?", Nupur asked in disbelief.

"Arey paise leneko nahi bol rahi hu. At least he can show you a way to get out of this problem. After all, shaadi ke baad tum log apni life share karne waale ho.", Riddhima said smilingly.

"Are you sure Riddhi? Kya mujhe Mayank se baat karni chahiye iss baade mein?", Nupur asked Riddhima to be sure.

"I'm sure. Call him or better meet him.", Riddhima advised.

"Abhi milna aur bahar jaana manaa hai Riddi. Kaise milungi?", Nupur asked, baffled.

Riddhima gave a victory smile and said, "Armaan ko phone karo."

Nupur smiled, understanding Riddhima's plan, and called Armaan.

As the haldi ceremony ended, all went busy in having lunch, while Nupur took a shower and got ready. After that, she and Riddhima sneaked out of the house through the garage and stood in front of the back entrance.

"Nupur, Armaan ko yehi aane ke liya kaha tha. I'm sure he'll be here very soon.", Riddhima said.

"I'm here girls.", Armaan came there with a smiley face.

Riddhima blushingly smiled hearing his manly voice. "Kaise ho?", she asked shyly.

"Theek hu par aaj kal dil mein bohot hulchul hai.", Armaan said with a smirk.

Riddhima's cheeks turned crimson red which was surely noticed by Armaan. Controlling the blush, Riddhima said, "Nupur, tu jaa, main andar chalti hu."

"Sab kuch samhaal lena andar.", Nupur worriedly said to Riddhima.

"Tu tension mat le. Just go.", Riddhima said and bidding farewell, she went inside carefully. Armaan and Nupur headed towards the parking lot.

"Yeh kaha lekar aaye ho mujhe?", Nupur confusedly asked.

Armaan sarcastically smiled and said, "Nupur, shaadi ke 5 din pehele, do you expect to meet Mayank at his home, in his bedroom?" The last part sounded as if he was teasing.

"Stop it Armaan aur please mujhe Mayank ke paas le chalo.", Nupur said restlessly.

"Aaye haaye.. Milne ki badi jaldi hai bhabhi ji." Armaan said with a mischievous smile.

Nupur glared at Armaan and scared, Armaan said, "Arey aakhe kyun dikha rahi ho yaar. Chalo."

Armaan returned home. Nupur went inside the Coffee Shop. Her eyes searched for Mayank, and the next moment, she found him sitting at a corner, waiting for her. She went up to him.

"Hi!", Nupur said with a little uneasiness.

"Oh hi!", smiling, Mayank said and stood up as a gesture of gentleness.

They both took their seats.

"Toh mujhe yaha achanak se? Kuch problem hai kya?", Mayank casually asked.

"Mayank, mujhe tumse ek zaruri baat karni thi."

"Kya baat hai? You are sounding tensed."

"Mayank, woh-"

"Kya hua, bataao? Be comfortable please."

"Mayank--'"

Just then; a girl, nearly of early 20s, called out Mayank. As Mayank shifted his gaze from Nupur to his right side, he was shocked. "Ria, tum?", he exclaimed. Nupur was confused seeing the changing expression on Mayank's face.

Ria came running to Mayank and hugged him tightly. Mayank was too shocked to react, while Nupur, just kept on staring at the view. What she was witnessing was unexpected for her. Her heart didn't want to believe but how could she not believe her eyes? She didn't love him, but she was hurt. She was hurt to see her to-be-husband in another woman's arms.

After a moment, Mayank's arms slowly went up and finally he hugged Ria back, which made Nupur shocked more. Tears flowed from her eyes. Numbly she turned back and walked away.

Coming back home by the same entrance, Nupur went straight to her room. She saw Riddhima sitting there and waiting for her.

"Kaun hai?", Riddhima asked feeling someone entering the room.

"Riddhi, main hoon.", Nupur said plainly.

Riddhima smiled. "Mayank se baat hui?"

Nupur didn't respond. She sat on the corner of the bed and stared at a certain point blankly.

"Nupur, are you there?", Riddhima asked confusedly.

"Riddhi, kal main apne saare jewelries sell kar dungi.", Nupur said.

Riddhima was shocked as well as baffled. Why did Nupur suddenly take such a decision? She thought and asked amazedly, "Nupur, tu hosh mein toh hai?"

"Hosh mein toh main abhi aayi hoon.", Nupur said and began to cry her heart out.

Riddhima felt the earth being snatched beneath her feet. "Tu ro kyu rahi hai meri jaan?", she asked and started waving her hands in the air. Nupur held her hand and pulled her in a hug.

"Sab aadmi ek jaise hote hai, Riddhi.", she said sobbingly.

"Maltab?", Riddhima confusedly asked, and sighing, Nupur explained the whole story to Riddhima.

"Damn Mayank! How the hell did you do this? Tune Nupur ke saath aisa kaise kar sakta hai?", Armaan angrily said.

Mayank embarrassedly said, "I couldn't control my feelings, Armaan."

"Oh please shut up.", Armaan furiously said and turned to the other side. "Do you know how much you hurt Nupur? I mean kaunsi ladki apne to-be-husband ko kisi aur ladki ke baaho mein dekhke hurt nahi hogi?"

"But I still love Ria aur aaj usse bohot dino ke baad dekhkar kuch pata hi nahi chala ki kab kaise aur kyun ho gaya.", Mayank said expressing himself totally in love.

Armaan sarcastically smiled and said, "Dude, do you remember how she refused to marry you because a guy richer than you proposed her? I'm sure aab usse woh ladka chodkar chala gaya, iss liye woh tere paas aa gayi."

"Armaan-"

Cutting Mayank's statement, Armaan said placing his palm on his shoulder, "Mayank, dekh, main tujhe kisi bhi decision ke liye force nahi karunga. Its true ki shaadi ka decision mein tune mere samjhaane par haan kiya hai, par this time, I'm seriously not gonna make you understand. Sirf itna bolunga ki wahi karna jo tera dil kahe. Sab kuch soch samajh kar faisla lena."

Mayank was left in deep thoughts.
