absolutely loved it ... very moving and touching...sad what NT did...she confessed to maan, but i really wish she had confessed this to geet as well...but i guess that is maan's job...he made the mistake of believing someone else other than his gf and best friend...but at the end the one who suffers the most are the kids...poor kunal...he missed 10 years of his dad's love and affection due to NT ...please make them meet soon i know geet will not take him back that easily...he has a steep slope to climb to convince her, but stilll
Waiting 😍
Thank you so much for your comments. I really appreciate them! Please keep them coming and enjoy the next chapter.
Chapter 13
She went to the canteen dazed. Kunal was Geet's and Maan's son and apparently it seemed as if Maan did not know the existence of his son. Nandini sighed. What could have possibly gone wrong in their relationship? Geet was still in love with him. It showed in her eyes. She was trying her hardest not to care about him but she did. A lot.
She saw Meera, Yash and Dev seated there. They all looked exhausted. Should she tell them? Although this was Geet's personal matter, there was nothing personal in friendship.
She walked to their table and sat down. 'Guys, I just found out something right now. I don't know if I should be saying this right now but I'm just too shocked to think.' Nandini started. They all looked at her confused.
'What's wrong Nandini? Is everything alright? What did you find out?' Yash asked obviously very concerned.
She took a deep breath. 'I found out who Kunal's father is. He is in this hospital at the moment. It seems like Geet has not acknowledged to him that she is a doctor here and I don't think he knows about Kunal.' She said in a rush.
They all looked at her with the are-you-crazy expression. She said, 'I'm telling the truth. He's Maan. Maan Singh Khurana. The businessman.'
Meera gasped. 'Are you serious? Maan Singh Khurana is Kunal's father? Whoa, that is a shock. How did you find out? What's up?'
'Maan was talking to Kunal and Geet was hiding behind curtains watching them with a tearful expression. I had always wondered why Maan used to look so familiar to me. Thinking about it, it's because of Kunal. They look really alike. I'm surprised none of us noticed.'
'Yeah, me too. So Geet doesn't want Maan to find out? Oh man, I don't know what she should do. I feel so bad for her and in a way for him too. He has not known his son for a decade.' Dev added.
'I know, it's pretty sad. I don't know what we should do either.' Their conversation continued on this topic and they tried thinking of ways how they should approach Geet or whether they should or not at all.
Kunal and Geet left for home. He was so excited about his meeting with Maan, she realized. Little did he know that Maan was his father. He would find out soon enough.
They had a dinner full of conversation. Rano had just returned from Pune and she was all excited seeing her daughter and grandson. She noticed that Geet was not her usual self and that there was something nagging her. Kunal went upstairs to do his homework and mother and daughter decided to catch up.
'What's wrong Geet? Why do you seem to be so sad?'
'Mama, Maan's here. His mother had an accident and she's admitted in Sanjivani. Kunal and Maan talked. Mama, am I being selfish by not telling Kunal about Maan?' Geet asked.
'I don't know Geet. But if you're feeling that way, you should probably tell Kunal. I can always see questions in his eyes. I don't want you to be too late in this case.'
'Yes Mama. I'm planning to tell him tonight so that if they meet again, Kunal can talk to him with the knowledge that the man standing opposite him is his father. I'll go tell him now. Thanks Mama. I love you.'
'Don't worry. And I love you too.'
Geet went upstairs into Kunal's room. She looked at him doing his homework. 'Kunal, I need to talk to you.'
'Yes Mama? What is it?'
She tried breathing evenly. 'It's about your father.' With that, his eyes went wide. His mother was going to tell him about his father?
'You know, when I was in university, I fell in love with your father. He was in love with me too. Everything was going perfect. We had it all planned out. But then everything went wrong. I don't know how or what. I don't know whose fault it was but everything went wrong.' She looked at Kunal who it seemed was trying to absorb everything so far.
'Then I had you. Everything was perfect for me again. Kunal, I'm sure your father would have loved you. But you see, I never told him that you existed. He would have come to me and married me if he knew about you. I didn't want that to happen. He would convince me of marriage but I wanted him to marry for me, not for you. I'm sorry Aditya for being so selfish. I never told you and I never gave you a chance to understand.' She looked at her son with tears in her eyes. It seemed like he was having trouble holding them in too.
He asked her. 'Mama, why are you telling this to me now?'
'Because I think I've cheated you long enough. I thought you deserved to know. Aren't you going to ask me who he is?' Geet asked.
'I don't need to. I figured that if you wanted me to know, you'll tell me on your own.'
'Oh Kunal. I'm so sorry for not telling you this earlier but I have to do this now. He's Maan. Maan Singh Khurana's your father.'
He gasped. Maan Singh Khurana was his father? The man he was talking to today was his father? The man he was planning to fix his mother with was already his father? How could this be possible? He looked at tears falling down his mother's cheeks and he knew it was true. His mother would never lie. He didn't know how to react. He knew it had taken a lot for his mother to tell him the truth but it also hurt him that she didn't tell him earlier. Hadn't he deserved to know? Then he reminded himself, he never asked. If he would have, she would have told him. And she was crying. Her tears made her weak. It didn't matter. She was always there for him.
Suddenly, he smiled. He now had a plan. He looked at his mother, went to her and held her hands. 'Don't worry Mama. I'm not mad at you. I can understand how hard this was for you to tell me. I love you and nothing will change that. I'm not going to tell Dad that he's my dad.'
Geet looked at her son and ached for him. He was going to put himself in misery for her. She knew how badly he wanted a father; and now that he had one he wouldn't go to him. She was so unfair. But he understood. Things were going to be alright after all.
They slept in each others' arms that night. Geet did not have the heart to go back to her room. She wanted her baby beside her. Rano went and checked on them, smiled and shut the door.
Morning came soon enough. Sunlight poured through the window and the house was in chaos again. 'Mama, you know that next week I'm singing right? You better get off the hospital on Saturday or I'll never talk to you again.' He pouted. The following Saturday was a talent show in his school. He participated in that each year and was always among the top competitors. His break would begin right after the talent show.
Geet laughed hugging him. 'Of course I'll be there. Is that something to ask? The world's greatest to-be-singer is going to sing, how can I miss that?' Hearing that, Kunal chuckled. His mother always said that. He sobered up. 'Mama, you know Pinky right? She's going to be there.'
Geet tried to hide her smile. Pinky was her son's first crush. She was nine years old and was already beautiful. Kunal wanted to impress her. 'Don't worry Kunal. She'll love your singing. You're the most handsome man I've ever seen; let's see how long she can stay away from you.'
'And that's why I love you.' He kissed his mother's forehead. His school bus honked and Kunal ran to the bus with his bag dangling in his arms. He turned and waved.
Geet went to the hospital in the best possible mood. She looked dazzling in a lime green Punjabi choodidar and with a wide smile on her face.
'Geet.' She heard.
She turned and acknowledged him with her heart pounding. 'Maan.'

Chapter 14
They stood staring at each other. Time held no meaning. There was nobody in this world but them. Nobody else held any significance. He was looking as wonderful as always in his white tracks and white sleeveless vest.
He is beautiful.
She is beautiful.
I've missed him.
I've missed her.
It all happened ages ago.
It all happened a blue moon ago.
I don't want to talk to you.
I'm not leaving without talking to you.
I hate you so much. You hurt me.
I still love you. I thought you hurt me. I ended up hurting both of us.
You're going to be sorry.
I am sorry.
I'll never forgive you.
Please forgive me.
They just stood looking at each other. They didn't realize when people passed by or what was happening. Maan wanted to talk to her and found that he couldn't find the right words. Is this what love did to a man? he asked himself. No, not love; but when he betrayed the woman he loved, then a man couldn't quite find the right words to explain himself.
'How've you been Geet?' He finally broke the silence. And cursed himself. Is that the best he could do? He was always witty, what happened to him? He was always good at starting conversations, how lame could he get?
Geet eyed him curiously after breaking from her trance. 'I've been well. You don't look too bad yourself.' She ached to touch him. She ached to tell him how good he looked. She also ached to slap him.
He saw that her face remained expressionless. So she had managed to change that about herself. A decade ago, he was able to figure out her emotions without her saying anything. Not anymore. A decade was a very long time. He sighed. This was going to be more difficult than he had expected.
'What are you doing here?' he managed to ask her. What the hell was wrong with him? Why was he fumbling with words?
She gave him one of her quick smiles and his stomach did a somersault. Her quick smiles had always driven him crazy. They came out of the blue and were very genuine. It was as if she had just shared a private joke.
'I was one of the doctors who operated on your mother. She's doing well, isn't she? I'm so glad she's getting better.' She looked at him as he did not reply.
'So you knew I was here? Anyways, thank you so much for my mother. I don't know what I would have done if anything had happened to her. I owe you one.' You owe me a lot Maan, you owe me a lot. Before that thought completed forming in her mind, she saw the emotional look on his face that showed how deep he was in with his mother. Her heart softened. She wouldn't let that happen, she thought close to a panic. She wouldn't let her heart soften. She'd become even more vulnerable to him than she already was. She couldn't allow that again. She hardened her heart again with great difficulty. She reminded herself why she nearly detested him. She wouldn't allow him to take advantage of her weakness.
'Yes Maan. I knew you were here. It's really sweet of you to pass by and ask me how I was. Now just go away. Somebody must be waiting for you. You're wasting their time. I'm a doctor and I need to get back.' Since when did she dimiss somebody like that? She had never dismissed him before.
'You were not like this a decade ago.' He muttered under his breath. Why did he have to change the things that were happening that blue moon ago? Why did his ego always come in-between their relationship? She was always the one to pacify things between themselves. This time it would be him. Long ago, she would take the blame for his wrong-doings. Now he was growing up. He was learning how to accept responsibility.
'Because you had not hurt me a decade ago,' she whispered to herself. She didn't mean for that to come out aloud. She needed to control her tongue. She was slipping things without realizing it. She was slipping her emotions that way.
'If you're done talking, I'd like to leave Maan. I have a lot of things to do. You're wasting my time. Have a good day and I really hope that she gets well soon.' With that she turned. He couldn't just let it go like that, he thought. This was not the confrontation he was wishing for or hoping for. He grabbed her hand and realized instantaneously the mistake he made. She whirled around her face flushed with anger.
'Don't you dare put your filthy hands on me, Khanna. What was between me and you was a long time back. Nobody gave you permission to put your hands on me. Just go to other women, you're probably just breaking their hearts. Just go find a s**t; she'll suit you the best. But who knows how you'll treat her all the same?' She was so furious that she hadn't realized what she was saying; she hadn't realized that she was almost screaming at him. She became furious with herself. She wouldn't show him how much she ached; how much he had hurt her. When the meaning of her words penetrated in her brain, she stood there mortified. No matter how close she was to detesting him, she had no right to say that. She had no right to insult him that bad.
He was getting mad at her. How could she talk to him like that? How could they have grown so distant? It's been your fault all along, he reminded himself. She has all the rights to say all she wants. He calmed himself down.
She just stomped to her cabin. Maan stood there watching her. He made a decision and followed her. Geet went to her desk and folded her hands. Her back was facing the door and she didn't see Maan standing near the door. She stood there staring at her hands thinking about their confrontation. Her back was slumped and she looked completely dejected. It hurt Maan to think that he was the reason for that posture; he was the reason for all the unhappiness in her life.
'Geet.' His voice broke as he said her name. He wanted to break down. He wanted to be held by her. He wanted to be comforted by her.
Geet heard the catch in his voice. She almost went to him to soothe his hurt away. He was hurting. She didn't know the reason but he was hurting. No, I will not be the latest woman in his list to fall for him again. I made the mistake once and I'm not going to repeat it. I have more sense than that, she thought. 'You don't understand it when I say I don't want to talk to you, do you?'
'I just want to say a few things Geet. Then you can decide what you want to do with me. Please give me a chance. Just one chance.' He wanted her arms around him. He wanted her to soothe him. He also knew that his wants were impossible at that time.
Geet wanted to slap him very hard for making her go through this again. She didn't want to feel miserable again because of him. She wouldn't let that happen.
'Maan, please leave me alone. I don't want my husband to come here and see you talking to me. Leave me and my family alone. Don't even think of splitting is because we have a kid, too. None of your dirty tricks are going to work.'
Hearing that, his world shattered.
