I second manashi- want a lovable sequel! Jodi is a hot and happening couple- can you blame us?! 😃😆
I say forget this 'Reincarnation track'- I'm all for a genre of Mystery for Season 2 of Geet or even a Movie! Sookie you've spoiled us! I actually want to see your story onscreen!
Jokes apart, great update! But one thing I failed to understand was Geet's bland reaction upon hearing of Vikram's betrayal. I'm confused, did I miss anything? "Betrayal's a bitch..." that's all?
We are a bunch of shameless readers...but anything for being the cupid to these two...🤣

Sookie, Loved the teasing between Emily and Maan and my hopes had just raised to about 1% (i know you well) when you squashed them. Honestly speaking, an attraction between the two at this moment doesnt look quite suited towards their characters right now...though I would gladly go along if you build the story up in a sequel as some readers have already mentioned😆
Chapter 27:
-- Saturday 10 AM, Police Station --
"We finally managed to co-ordinate everyone's timings and they will be here by three in the afternoon. That's the earliest we could manage," Satya said as he and Emily came in back to Maan's cabin.
"I have sent my team to turn Mal's place upside down. David's team is tagging along just in case. If they get something, we will know soon." Deshmukh said.
"Whatever happened to Sasha's candy-man? Did you get a chance to work on that lead?" Maan asked.
"Sir that man is not in business anymore because he is in jail. Few weeks before Sasha's murder he went underground as police sniffed his lair but eventually he got caught. He did provide shipment to Sasha that we recovered from Mal's house. David had provided me with sample and the candy-man vouched that the drugs had come from his supply chain. He remembers it very clearly because apparently the stuff is top of the line and really, really expensive." Deshmukh replied.
"How did Mal know where Sasha kept her stash?" Emily asked.
"At one point Mal and Sasha lived together. Sasha would have made a practice of storing her stuff in a specific place. It's a common habit amongst the addicts. They rarely breakaway from this habit and if they do, it would be because of a drastic change in environment. Like rehab where they lack control on their surroundings. My guess is Mal knew exactly where Sasha kept her stuff when they lived together and she found that her habit wasn't broken in her new apartment too." Deshmukh explained.
"But isn't it brazen to keep that stuff in house? Varun was a regular visitor to Mal's house and so was Geet. It's odd that no one has noticed that Mal housed that stuff." Satya remarked.
"Satya, seriously, what are the odds that a person who is visiting your house would open the toilet sink and check? I think it's a brilliant place to hide things no one should ever find out," Emily replied.
"Who is going through the evidence that was collected at Sasha's murder scene? Is David finished with that?" Maan asked getting the conversation back on murder.
"David finished with it. He said there isn't anything outstanding in the evidence which could point to Mal because Mal was a regular visitor to that apartment. So obviously her prints were all over the place. The odd thing was that police never recovered the syringe which was used for drugs. I guess the killer was clever enough to flush it down the toilet rather than dumping in a dustbin," Satya answered. Maan nodded.
"There is absolutely no evidence that can point to Mal in both the cases actually. That is until Geet mentioned that she made a phone call to Mal during the time of Anjali's death. Would have found that out?" Maan asked. Emily looked at him oddly.
"We would have eventually gotten to that point because even before Geet mentioned about it we had already begun to suspect Mal as a potential killer due to her ties with detective agencies. Why do you ask?" Emily asked.
"It kind of sealed it for us, didn't it?" Maan asked slowly.
"What are you getting at Sir? You don't believe Geet, do you?" Emily asked wearily.
"I don't believe her statement Emily. Something doesn't add up. I cannot still believe the fact that she didn't know about Mal's doings is little odd. I completely agree to her line of argument about being secretive about it but what's in it for Mal?" Maan said.
"I am with Geet on this one sir. I don't find it really significant. Besides people drift apart as they grow older, right? And not to mention they become more and more private about their personal affairs." Emily rationalized. Maan simply hummed.
"Has no one recognized the unknown guy yet?" Maan asked.
"Are you talking about the guy who went to Geet's college last year?" Deshmukh asked. Maan nodded.
"I asked couple of detective who worked the case sir and they didn't know. I am anyway going to that agency in the evening to pick up more paperwork I can ask those people again. I will fax the photo to them in advance." Deshmukh said.
"I thought you got all the records?" Emily asked.
"I got all the reports that they had collected on Anjali and Sasha. There are still invoices, official requests made by Mal and copy of contract with the agency which I have still not received. They wanted to consult their legal counsel against the warrant I had acquired if those documents were also covered. The legal counsel cleared it yesterday and they asked me to come by today evening and pick it all up. Well I volunteered to pick it up so that I get a chance to speak to the detectives who worked on this case." Deshmukh explained.
"Vic asked if you can get a warrant for Varun to take a DNA sample so that Vic can positively ID the fetus." Satya said.
"Why waste tax payers money for DNA tests Satya. Let's get him to confess," Maan replied. Emily grinned at Satya.
"Excuse me, I have to go," Deshmukh said looking at his cellphone which had just beeped.
"Is everything alright?" Maan asked.
"I hope so sir," Deshmukh saluted and left the room.
"Emily, are you looking into Geet's financial records too?" Maan asked. Emily nodded.
"Just for the sake of completeness am looking into it sir. I still believe that you are wrong about her." Emily said at which Maan simply shrugged.
"What will be our interview strategy for this afternoon sir ji?" Satya asked.
"First get Vikram in that interrogation room. Don't talk to him when you show him the room. Once he is in, close the door. And for ten minutes no one goes in or out. Ten minutes later bring in Varun to that room. And again ten minutes later let Geet go in. Ensure that you just let people in and you close the door as soon as they are in. Emily you sit on the other side of the room with all the hard evidences that we have collected till date and watch them. You will watch for their movements, their facial expressions, the words they use and the way they react to each other's presence. And this is most crucial especially when Geet walks in. The three of us will be connected by radio and every time you find a blip in their pattern, you report to us. If any of them sprout anything new to us in this interview, then I want your team to validate it as soon as possible. I will have the interrogation videotaped and you will have access to all three cameras. Irrespective of what happens inside that room, you will not leave your place but keep observing everything that takes place inside. I know that it is impossible to observe three subjects, but do the best you can. And there will be no outside interruption when this interrogation takes place. Understood?" Maan finished. Emily and Satya nodded, saluted and left his cabin.
-- Saturday 2:45 PM, Police Station --
"I was told earlier that I should be here by three but you people give me a call and say that I should be here half an hour earlier. Don't you guys have any respect for someone's time? I am an exporter with lots of business…" Vikram winced as Satya's palm that was covering his arm tightened and squeezed his arm tightly. Satya was escorting Vikram to interrogation room but Vikram seemed to be in a bad mood. Maan had warned Satya that Vikram would be aware of Varun also coming in so he might throw a tantrum.
"Go easy on my arms fella. What is that you people want from me? Is it money? If it is so you could have simply asked for it and I would have provided you with lots of it. I have friends in places and mark my words, aaahhh…." Vikram yelled as Satya yanked him into the interrogation room while Vikram's unoccupied arm hit the doorframe with a thud. Even before Vikram could react Satya was already out of that room.
From the other side of the wall, Emily furiously made notes as she keenly observed Vikram berating Satya's way of handling things. She knew that Satya was actually going easy on Vikram because an unleashed Satya isn't something a person like Vikram could ever handle. Vikram's rant slowed down after few minutes and he simply sat and fumed. He could check his emails on cellphone or even make calls as it was protocol not to allow those things inside. His eyes were shifty and he tapped his fingers continually on the table. Emily noted that it was Vikram's nervous tick. He was nervous about the interrogation and probably meeting Geet and Varun. They all knew each other after all so they might have known that all three of were summoned at almost same time. Either that or Satya truly managed to scare the guy off. Vikram started to relax as the clock moved towards three and seeing how for the past ten minutes there was no sign of Geet or Varun. However his demeanor changed when Varun burst through the door and Satya closed the door behind him.
Vikram jumped in his chair seeing Varun there and Varun's eyes widened. No, Emily thought. They didn't know that they were going to meet at that time. Emily and Satya had cleverly managed to arrange for this interrogation without letting them know that there would be other participants. They had casually made few phone calls ensuring that everyone agreed upon a single timeframe.
"Why are you here?" Varun asked Vikram, hoarsely.
"These people asked me to come; something to do with Mal's murder." Vikram said.
"Same." Varun replied.
"I told you Varun not to get involved with that woman. Somehow even after her death, she seems to haunt you continuously. See where it has gotten us," Vikram grumbled.
"It wasn't her fault that she got herself killed." Varun replied hotly. Vikram didn't respond or talk any further. He fell into silence and ignored Varun.
Emily found that Varun was scared of Vikram because of his affair with Anjali. And if Vikram did come to know about Varun's blackmailing deeds, then it would be disastrous.
"Emily, I am bringing in Geet now. Are you ready?" Satya's voice crackled in her earpiece. She gave an affirmative response and in next three minutes Geet was walking into the interrogation room along with Satya. Emily's eyes were fixed on Geet.
She was looking at the floor when she entered the room and she looked up when Vikram shot up from his chair which moved with a creaking noise. Her eyes widened as she saw Vikram coming towards her and then her eyes were narrowed. She was angry.
Geet punched Vikram hard. Vikram howled in pain as his nose started bleeding and stared at Geet who was spitting venom.
"You bloody fuc*king bas*tard. You cheated on me with Anjali. And here is newsflash to you moron. Anjali cheated on you with your own little brother. How does that feel?" Geet breathed hard and again lunged for Vikram. Satya grabbed her and dragged her back. Vikram looked like a wild animal with fire in his eyes as he stared at his brother. Emily was silently thankful for the table that separated the brothers. But Emily was more surprised at the look in Varun's eyes.
"Answer Geet brother. How is the feeling of being cheated?" Varun's asked his brother coldly. "You cheated Mal with fake art pieces and put a dent on her reputation. You got an artist from my own gallery to forge my works and made me feel little and pathetic. Now how does it feel to be on the other side of the cheating game?" Varun said nastily. Vikram didn't answer but glared at Varun.
