ST.MARY'S SCHOOL:
The day for the programme had finally come.Piya was extremely nervous, more so because the parents were also invited. This was a special programme dedicated to the teachers and parents.
Misha was trying to pull up the zip of Piya's dress- a beautiful black gown that clung to her body perfectly. But Piya was jumping from one foot to another, saying that she had butterflies in her stomach,and this was making it impossible for her.
Misha(irritated)- Piya! Stop jumping around as if u have got springs on ur soles!! As it is, I m angry. I can't believe Dad invited that idiot to come with them.
Piya(laughing)- U mean Jay? Aw, Mish, he is a really nice boy. Besides I have caught U looking at him with those eyes lost in-
Misha punched her shoulders- Shut up! I m not going to fall for him.
Piya grinned- When did I say that? I just said u looked at him. Guilty conscience, huh?
Before Misha could say anything, her cellphone beeped, indicating that she had received a message. it was from Kabir.
Misha- Oh no! I got to run! I have to help Kabir. Good luck,sis!
"Misha!" Piya screamed, as she ran away. "Help me zip my dress! I can't reach it!"
But Misha was already gone away. Cursing, Piya tried to zip her dress but the zip was too low.
"U look like a princess."
Piya spun around. Abhay stood there, leaning against the wall by the window, smiling a smile that made Piya go weak in the knees.
"A-abhay." Piya stammered backing away against the wall to hide her back. "This is a girls' dressing- room! Didn't U read the sign on the door?"
Abhay(still smiling as he started to walk towards her. She backed away till she hit the wall and he still came closer)- Well, I came in through the window. So I didn't read the signs, did I?
He was very close to her now. Her heartbeat increased. "Let me zip ur dress for u." he said in a soft voice.
Piya stared up at him, feeling steam coming out of her ears. "I z-zipped it, Abhay. T-thanks."
Abhay(with an impatient sigh)- Piya, come on, no use lying to me. The show will start any second now- surely u don't want ur dress falling off u while dancing? I m trying to help u."
Piya stared up at him for a few seconds, and then turned slowly,facing the wall, her back to him. The zip was really low,starting from the waist. She put her hair in front, and a bolt of electricity ran through her as his skin touched hers. He slowly zipped up her dress and then caressed the back of her neck softly. Piya closed her eyes, trembling slightly. He then kissed the back of her neck,giving rise to goosebumps on her arms. She turned slowly to face him, and saw that his nose was almost touching hers.
"Abhay", she said weakly. "This is a dressing r-room. anyone may c-come."
Abhay smiled and stroked her cheeks with the back of her hands."I have a gift to give u"
He extracted a small bracelet from his pocket. It seemed to be made from wood, carved intricately, with a small heart-shaped piece in the middle.
Abhay(looking at her)- I made this for u. It is a proof of my love for u, Piya.
He helped her put it on.
Piya(her face glowing with love)- Oh Abhay! U don't have to prove ur love. I know that u love me. I feel it. In here.(she pointed to her heart)- But it is so beautiful, Abhay! Thank u. I will always wear it.
Abhay kissed the hand in which she was wearing the bracelet and looked up at her, the smile on his face dazzling her. Piya stared up at the face and she softly touched it. He looked so divine. It made her want to stare at that face forever.
Piya(in a soft voice)-Ur smile is so beautiful, Abhay. Why didn't u ever smile before?
Abhay leaned in closer to whisper in her ears- I kept that smile just for u, Piya. Just for u.

Jay seated himself beside Mr. Jaiswal and was watching the decorations- colourful balloons, streamers,lights- when that smell reached him again. That vampire smell. It seemed to be coming from the entrence door. He turned to see them. A couple had just entered, dressed in black, and were being escorted to their seats by a boy.
"Here's ur seat,Mr. and Mrs.raichand. Enjoy the the show." the boy said, and retreated with a smile.
Jay frowned. Were those two vampires? Just then, the programme started. Jay pushed these thoughts at the back of his mind and started to watch the programme. Soon, the second last programme arrived- the couple dance.
The host announced" And here we have the couple dance-please welcome Ruhi Malhotra and Angad Agarwal and on the other side- Piya Jaiswal and Abhay Raichand. The two couples entered the stage and started to dance as the song started. Jay felt the vampire smell now hit him from the stage. It took him a second to put two and two together. The realization hit him and he almost jumped up from his seat. The Raichands are vampires!! Oh my god!!Is Piya going out with that boy? Is that why she has that vampire smell? He stared at them, not paying attention to the dance.

Piya felt she was in heaven as she danced in Abhay's arms. She had been nervous for nothing. Being with Abhay made her feel that the world was right, that everything was fine. The song was a medley which comprised two songs, an old one combined with the new. Piya heard only few lines of the song;she was so lost in Abhay. Yet they danced perfectly, moving with each other, keeping in rythm with the song. They were not there in the outside world,their minds were far, far away with each other,in a place where only they belonged, a place only they knew. Abhay held her warm body close to hers,and Piya felt herself drawn to that muscular body,which housed a beautiful heart, a heart that loved her unconditionally. When the music stopped, they stopped automatically,still close to each other, still looking at each other with eyes full of love- brown into ice-blues. I love U ,Piya,the ice-blue eyes spoke. U r mine, Abhay,forever,spoke the chocolate browns. Misha, who had watched the dance from the backstage, suddenly found herself thinking what it would feel like to dance with Jay, to be in Jay's strong arms. Stop it, Mish, she thought, jerking out of her daydream. Have U lost ur mind?

OUTSIDE DEHRADOON:A DARK CAVE
Maithili stood at the door of the cave. Not that she minded Chiraag being killed, but it made her angry that a weapon of hers had been taken. She knew she would never enter Dehradoon before Abhay's 100th vampire birthday,because it was too risky. Of course, she had the power to make her scent undetectable, but somebody might spot her. It might spoil her plans. No,Maithili hissed to herself. I will wait. I will wait till I get what I want. A princess's wishes will never be denied. Never.

15 DAYS LATER:JAISWAL HOUSE
It was Misha's 21st birthday. A big party had been arranged for the occassion. Piya was dressed in a pink-coloured lehanga, with designs done on it in gold. Misha, on the other hand, was dressed up in jeans and a green and white coloured T-shirt, and simply refused to wear the lehanga her mother had bought for her.
Madhu(angrily)- For God's sake, Misha! It's ur birthday. At least today u can dress like a girl. it won't kill u.
Misha(jumping away from her mother)- It will suffocate me, Mom. Surely u don't want to be arrested?
Madhu(in a tired tone)- Piya,dear, help me put some sense into ur sister.
Piya was about to say something when Misha said- She won't dare. I m elder to her now. She will listen to her big sister.
Piya threw a pillow at her. Misha dodged it, giggling.
Piya- Just u wait till 21st December. Then I will also become 21. I will dress u up like a barbie doll.
Just then, Arnab's voice floated up to them from downstairs- Madhu, Misha, Piya! Where r u? The guests r arriving.
Piya- U go. I m coming. I will just put on my earrings.
With a sigh, Madhu went out. Misha winked at Piya- Yeah, yeah,don't worry,ur boyfriend won't be able to take ur eyes off u.
Piya blushed. Ever since Misha had discovered the bracelet, she had never stopped teasing her. "Shut up and go, Mish" she said.
Misha laughed and went away.

As Misha jumped down the stairs, taking two steps at a time, a hand caught her. She halted and to her surprise, saw that the hand belonged to Jay.
Jay(with a smirk)- Not so fast, whirlwind. The birthday girl needs to be dignified.
Misha(unable to meet his eyes, which were staring at his face)- Shut up, idiot. Let me go.
Jay(grinning)- My name is Jay, Misha, not idiot. Don't u like my name?
Misha stared up at him,feeling hot suddenly- Let me go, J-Jay.
Jay came closer to her- Not before I give u my birthday presents. I have two, I will give u one now.
Before Misha could say anything, Jay bent down and kissed her on the cheek. Misha felt as though butterflies were flying in in her stomach. Jay smiled and looked at her- Happy Birthday, Mish.
Mish stared up at him, unable to say a single word. Her heart was hammering. Finally, coming to he senses, she pulled her hand away from Jay and hurried down, not looking at him. Jay watched her go, a smile on his face.

As Piya walked down the stairs, her eyes searched for only one person. She found him soon, standing near a flower stand, looking up at her, smiling. As soon as her eyes met his, the world around vanished. She walked over to him, a radiant smile on her face. He took her hand as she reached him.
Abhay(looking at her)- Did I ever tell U how beautiful U r?
Piya(with a smile)- I think u mentioned it before,yeah.
Just then, they heard Misha calling for Piya. Piya sighed, looking at Abhay with longing.
Abhay smiled and planted a quick kiss on her forehead- Don't worry. I will be waiting till U come back.
Piya gave him a smile and hurried to see what Misha wanted.
Misha- Pya, I told u to bring ur music CD'S! Where r they? I will play those along with my collection.
Piya- Oh, I forgot Mish. Hold on, I'll get them.
Just then, Madhu called them.
Misha moaned- Now Mom will have us meeting guests for hours. I wanted to start the music now!
Piya saw Jay passing by. "Hey, Jay! Jay!"
Misha turned beetroot red as she saw Jay walking towards them. She turned away, looking at the people around instead.
Jay couldn't help smiling on seeing her reaction. "What's up, Piya?"
Piya- Well, um, could u do us a favour, Jay? Misha wanted to start the music, but now Mom is calling and U know, there's no telling how long she'll keep us engaged. So, could u fetch my cd's and turn on the music player? U'll find all the cd's in the first drawer u see on ur right when u open the door.
Jay smiled- No worries.
"Come on" said Misha, pulling Piya away. Jay smiled.

It took Jay a minute to find the cds. He took them out, looking at the titles. just then, a photo fell out from between two of the cds he was holding. Jay bent to pick it up, and froze,staring at the picture. He had that same picture, given to him by Neel. Frowning, he straigtened up and stared at it. He knew who she was. Sugandh Mehra. What was a picture of her doing here, in Piya's room? He turned it around. There was something written at the back. it seemed to be Piya's handwriting.
I love u, Mama. U always live in my heart-Ur loving Piya
Jay felt as though the world had slipped away from under his feet. He could dimly remember Neel saying to him, as he handed him a picture of Sugandh"This is that Chiraag's wife, Sugandh."
"No", he gasped. He put the photo back in the drawer and backed away, his mind in shock. The girl he had been searching for was here, right in front of his eyes. He backed away from the room. Piya was Jaiswals' adopted daughter. Piya Jaiswal was Piyali Mehra- the girl he was searching for.
Jay felt tears coming to his eyes. "No! I can't do it to Piya!She can't be the one! I can't change her into a werewolf."
The next thing he knew, someone had lifted him off his feet and pressed him against the wall.
Abhay's voice reached him, low and furious- Turn Piya into a werewolf? What does that mean?
Jay winced in pain-Lemme go!
Abhay's face was inches from his- U r a werewolf?
Jay nodded,looking up at him- And u r a vampire.
Abhay let go off Jay,staring at him- I don't want to pick up a fight with u. But forget about harming Piya. The day u do so will be the day u breathe last.
Jay looked unhappy- I have no choice, Abhay. I really don't. She is Chiraag's daughter, who was a werewolf, and I need to turn her. Its the rule of our clan-
Abhay grabbed his collars- Piya is human! And I won't let u take away her life. She is going to lead a normal life, grow up and-
Jay didn't fight him. He felt broken. Piya and Misha were so close. He had feelings for Misha, and Piya was like a sister to him. Why was fate so cruel? Why?
"I don't want to" Jay whispered. "But I have to. When someone comes to know abot us or are related to us, directly or indirectly, we turn them. I have to-"
Abhay- U don't have to do anything. Its ur choice entirely, Jay, and no one else is responsible.
Tears slid down Jay's cheeks. He had never felt so helpless.
Abhay- U love them, don't u? u love Misha, and u look at Piya as ur sister. U wuld separate them, Jay? Would u?
Jay looked at him- Wouldn't u turn her into one of u?
Abhay(strongly)- Never. She is a human, with a normal life, where she can laugh, and be free, and have a wonderful life. I will not lead her to my world, cursed and damned as it is. She loves me, and I love her. That is enough.
Jay closed his eyes- Its m-my duty.I wish I had a choice.
Abhay(backing away from him)- I know u have a heart that feels, Jay. And even u know that u have a choice. We always have a choice,u just haven't accepted it. But I will protect Piya from u. At all costs.
He walked away. Jay watched him go, all the happiness in him gone. Why was this destined to happen, God?

Piya thought she would take a little rest in her room before joining the dance and the music. She was feeling exhausted after meeting so many guests. As she entered her room, she saw Abhay standing there.
Piya(gaping at him)- Abhay? U?
Abhay smiled and walked over to her, encircling his arms round her waist and pulling her closer- Not pleased to c me?
Piya put her arms around Abhay, smiling- I feel I m in heaven.
She looked at his eyes and saw worry in them.-Abhay? U look worried. Is there something u r not telling me?
Abhay smiled- Nothing to worry at all, my love.(He removed a strand of hair from her face and tucked it behind her ears.) I wanted to ask u something, actually.
Piya tilted her head to one side- What?
Abhay smiled- Would U like to spend a few days with me, Piya? Alone?
Piya stared at him,her heart beating as though it would jump out any moment- W-what? W-where?
Abhay grinned- Somewhere outside Dehradoon, of course. We could also celebrate my 100th birthday together.( He winked at her)- I'll tell u the exact date later. So will u go?
Piya looked down, blushing. She kissed his chest and buried her face in his chest.
Abhay- Is that a yes?
Piya looked up at him, blushing maroon now. "Guess", she whispered.
Abhay grinned, bending his face closer to hers." I think I know the answer" he whispered, before kissing her on the lips.Piya kissed him back,her hands moving up to grab his hair, as Abhay pulled her closer. They kissed each other passionately, forgetting the place, forgetting the time, remembering only their love fro each other, little knowing that soon they and their love would soon be thrown in the ruthless test of fire.
