Chapter 26: Entrapment
Iman,
Life is a blank canvas
And I have no color to paint with.
Geet.
PRESENT:
Geet felt a certain calmness seep through her as she drove through the streets of Delhi. She let herself soak in the atmosphere and vibe of the vibrant area.
After all the turbulent incidents over the last few days, the news of investors brought a smile on her face. Dr Bing had told her to meet with the organisation to talk through the details and to explain the project to them. She was the one behind the ideas and as such she was the best one to promote it.
Finally the project can start to move forward. All the plans are slowly going to start fall into place, I can feel that.
Her work was her temple; it brought peace and satisfaction. In the darkest of moments it was her work and dedication that kept her together. The distraction had kept her sane in moments of emotional pressure. It was a side to her that Iman, or Maan, had no idea about and thus was separate from him.
It had even surprised her to realise what she had been capable of. Pregnant and broke, she had managed to finish her last year of medical school. It had been a battle against the whole world but even in the midst of her depression she had understood the importance of proving herself.
And then she had started to dream again. Instead of dreams of him, she had built new dreams on Meliara and her work. She dreamt that she was a capable of mother to her and that she was able to act as a role model for Mel.
She wanted to drown herself in her work, to help others to reduce the pain that had built within her. To a certain extent she had succeeded but this project would be the proof of her success.
But as she thought about her successes, she couldn't help but get dragged down to the storms in her past. She tried to hold in the emotion that again threatened to overwhelm her, brought to the edge of her mind by his presence over the last few days, but she could hardly hold back the memories that wouldn't fade away even with time and distance.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PAST:
Sometimes the hardest battles were the ones against your own self. Sometimes denial is the only way to get on with reality. Sometimes you have to fight, despite knowing that it is futile to win against fate. Sometimes you have to rise above what you are capable of in order to face the next day.
But what is the value of such life? Why wait for the next day when it will only bring more misery? Why fight a losing battle, when only your own blood will be shed? Why bother to breath, when every breathe ceases to mean anything?
Geet had accepted her fate but she questioned her destination. What was her purpose in life? Who was she living for?
Currently it was for her friends that she was making an attempt at appearing to be normal, but reality was that she was far from being the Geet she had been. And every time she looked in the mirror she got her proof. IT wasn't just her hair but instead it was her whole aura that had morphed into someone unknown. She had lost the spark that made her who she was. Instead she was trapped in a warped reality, with her whole world turned upside down.
Iman, Iman, Iman.
He was the only thing she could focus on but even his name brought out the darkness within her. She was wrapped in a world with him in the centre, yet her sun had disappeared living her to orbit around nothingness.
She couldn't move passed him, yet she couldn't be with him. She dreamt of him, yet their dreams were broken. Everyday was spent thinking of him, yet thoughts of him were blurring the rest of her reality.
Days like this were the hardest. Dev and Meera had gone out for groceries, leaving her all alone. She felt like the only person in the world, with only the air around her as company. A part of her felt that she deserved this, and much more. Maybe she didn't even deserve the love her friends showered on her.
She stared down at the knife in her hand and tried to persuade herself to put it away. But something
within her had snapped and she could no longer control herself.
Indeed she had lost all emotions and feelings. She no longer felt pain or guilt. Instead she was cocooned in a blanket of apathy.
She wanted to feel something, anything!
Pain, anger, love or hate'it didn't matter. She just wanted to feel human emotion, feel connected. In this search for realism, it was as if her id had taken control, letting her basic instincts take over. And the feeling of apathy had made even pain seem like pleasure.
So she gently pressed the knife down onto her wrist.
Like a flower blooming her hand start to seep out blood. The sight of the droplets of blood staining her skin seemed beautiful in its vibrancy and she was oddly mesmerized by the sight. Almost as if along with the blood some of her emotions were also pouring out.
She closed her eyes and allowed herself to finally feel something, even if it was the sting of pain. She savoured it and let it warm blood flow out. In her dissociated state the pain was no different from pleasure.
But just as quickly the sting was going, leaving a dull ache that hardly satisfied Geet. So with a small growl she took back the knife and made another slash. She was only intent on feeling the pain and pleasure, nothing at that moment mattered.
Then she made another slash and another.
So lost was she in her attempts at hurting herself she didn't hear the horrified voice call out to her.
"GEET!" Meera screamed out in fear and horror. She had just returned with Dev from the supermarket with groceries and had come to check up on Geet when she was met with the sight of a bleeding Geet holding a knife in her hand.
She rushed forward to snatch the knife off Geet's hands, who brushed away her hands without really noticing her. Geet was in her own world and focused only on the knife.
"Please Geet, please give me the knife." Meera sobbed out. She was beyond frightened for her wounded friend. It wasn't about the cuts but more about the emotional state of Geet's that she was worried. Meera understood how easy it would be for Geet to spiral downwards from this point. "Geet please stop hurting yourself."
But Geet resisted all her attempts and dug the knife in deeper, this time right over the artery.
Let's end all this, let's end everything now. A voice within her screamed out.
Dev also came running into the room, after hearing Meera scream out. He managed to pry the knife off Geet and held her against him while she thrashed around. Meera also held onto Geet, hugging her and trying to calm her down. Finally when it seemed that Geet was calm, Meera managed to bandage the wounds, while trying to keep herself calm.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Geet sat with her head down. She wanted to melt away or drift off somewhere else, instead of facing reality.
Dev, Meera, Rahul, Lily and Naintara all sat around her, trying to get her to talk. They didn't know how to deal with this situation, for they themselves were hurt by the incident.
"Look Geetu, you can tell us anything. Please we want to help you." Rahul's voice was so tender and soft that it almost hurt Geet to hear it. She didn't want her brother to show such concern.
"Please hun, let us help you." Lily couldn't stop crying even as she said this.
Meera sat next to her while patting her hair. "Gi, we all love you. Please don't do this to yourself."
"SHUT UP!" Seb broke through everyone, surprising them all. "Just shut up! You want to kill yourself? Fine go ahead!"
"What the hell-" Rahul and Naintara simultaneously called out.
"No shut up all of you!" Sebastian was beyond livid at this point. He glared down at everyone but his anger was focused on Geet. "If she wants to kill herself, then let her! Infact why don't I help you with that! Give me the knife and I'll finish off the job for her!"
"Dude back off!" Lily said angrily at Seb.
"No I won't. Why should I care about someone who is this selfish?" He lashed out. "Geet did you ever think of what it would do to us if something happened to you? Did you ever think about us at all? No you never did! What would we do without you?"
Finally Geet broke down. The flow of tears wouldn't stop as she started to talk. "I am so sorry. So sorry." With that she reached out for Seb and held onto him. "I am sorry."
Geet was truly repenting her actions. She could tolerate any pain but didn't want to bring the cloud of darkness around her friends. She would do anything for them.
Seb just held onto his best friend, trying to get rid of the anger and fear that had built within him from the moment he had heard about what had happened. "Promise me that you'll never do something like this. Promise me!"
She nodded against his shirt.
I promise I will never do anything to hurt any of you.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meera stood in the kitchen staring out the window, lost in her thoughts. She kept on picturing Geet sitting on the floor with all the blood on her hands. Shuddering she tried to block the images, but they were persistently there.
She closed her eyes, willing the horror to go away.
But she was jerked out of her thoughts by a hand on her shoulder.
"Meer, are you okay." Dev asked in concern as he say Meera's tear stained face. "Everything is okay, Geet is fine."
"It is entirely my fault." Meera sobbed out. "I shouldn't have left her alone! It's my fault."
Dev's heart clenched with Meera's words. He quickly hugged her, trying to sooth the pain. "No Meer! If its your fault, than it's my fault as well. Both of us went out."
"But-"
"No buts. Meer we have to be strong for Geet. We have to make sure that she stays alright." He murmured soothingly against her hair. He couldn't bare to see Meera like this and tried best to take away her worry.
"I just hope she gets better. I hope she gets the love she deserves." Meera whimpered against Dev's shirt. She let him comfort her, finally feeling somewhat at peace.

PRESENT:
What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger.
Geet knew better than anyone else how true the edict was. Because despite all the hardships she had gone through she became much stronger.
Bit by bit she had dragged herself out of the pit of depression, with her friends as anchors. They had been there for her and she had moved on for them. It had taken her a long time but somehow she had managed to bring back optimism and positivity in her life.
And a part of her believed that something good was going to happen today. Something that would change her world for the better.
With those happy thoughts she entered the headquarters for Kapoor Alliance.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Sir, Dr Handa has arrived."
"Send her in." Maan replied to his secretary on the intercom.
He sat down on his chair and looked out the view from his office. He could see Delhi city below and knew that he had enough power to control most of it. Yet today he was grateful for the power only as it gave him the ability to bring Geet closer. HE would use all his resources to make sure that she would stay and be his.
While Maan maintained control and knew all that was happening with Kapoor Alliance, it wasn't common for Maan to come to the headquarters because he mainly focused on Khurana Enterprises.
However today was an exception for his Geet was coming here, just as he planned.
And he turned to watch her walk through his tinted windows. She couldn't see him but he watched her confident gait while wearing professional clothes. Her high waist skirt accentuated her figure while her white crisp shirt gave a vibe of competency. He had never seen her in this avatar. He had seen her in rumpled casuals, even in kameez and in day to day wear but this was a first. And as usual he was impressed.
There was a knock on his door before his secretary opened the door and said "Dr Handa is here"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Geet was excited as she slowly walked in to the room, after thanking the secretary. She had waited for this day for a long time now.
But the smile was wiped off her face as she saw who sat behind the desk.
"You!" She screamed out. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"Hmm...is that anyway to speak to an investor?" Maan said in a calm tone, after all he had known that she would react like this.
"You..you are the investor?" She managed to say in a horrified voice.
"But of course, after all I am the MD and owner of Kapoor Alliance." He smoothly explained.
"MD..Kapoor Alliance...But!" Geet spluttered out.
Maan got up and ever so slowly started walking towards her. Geet was so distracted by all that was happening she hardly noticed him coming towards her until he was right in front of her.
She jerked back and started to walk out of the room when his words stopped her.
"So..you are going to walk away?" He taunted. "The Belle I knew was hardly a coward."
"I am not Belle neither am I a coward." She gritted out. "I just want to get the hell away from you!"
He quickly grabbed on to her wrist and brought her closer to him. "So you are willing to give away your dream project, just for me? You're willing to let go of all that you have worked for over the last few years just because you can't face reality. That seems quite cowardly to me."
"Nothing is worth being with you! Not even my dreams." She spat out, while try to get out of his iron grip. "And how the hell do you even know about my dreams."
"Do you think you can hide anything from me?" He leaned towards her until they were only an inch apart. "You may have given up on your dreams but I haven't. I'll fight whatever way I need to."
"Why don't you just f*** yourself!" Geet burst out in anger. "I don't give a rat's ass about your freaking dreams nor do I care to spend a single shitty moment in your screwed up presence, you blood retard!"
Maan paradoxically hurt and please with her words. Hurt because his Belle was spewing venom at him, but happy because it meant that she felt something for him. He knew his Belle, she never showed such anger unless someone touched a nerve or is she cared.
You can try and hide it, but the truth is I matter to you. Just as you'll always be the most important thing in my life.
"Tsk tsk...is that the way to talk to a potential investor Dr Handa?" All the while he pressed closer and closer to her. With his free hand he brushed across her cheeks and just as he expect a blush bloomed across her face. "Still blushing...wonder what it'll take to make you stop blushing." He said the provocative words, knowing that they would bring back flashes of their past.
"I really don't give a damn what you think!" She said even as her spluttered with his proximity. She closed her eyes, trying to block him out. I can't let him do this to me. Not again.
"That is a bit selfish isn't it. After all this isn't only your dream, other people have a role in it as well. Are you going to disregard them as well?" He used the ace up his sleeve.
And that froze her.
