Hi everyone! I'm sorry for the late update, we've been having gorgeous hot weather in England so I've been enjoying the sunshine... anyway, the amazing kashndsel4eva (Sani) and the awesome ARMAANSKSGFAN (Sai) both created siggies for my FF, so this update is dedicated to both of them, thank you so much!

* Note: I had no idea that they were sisters! 😆 I guess siggie making skills run in the family 😊

Chapter 4:

Once the Khuranas & Handas got home, Rano & Pari prepared for the food to be served. Savitri Devi had suggested that they go to a dhaba to eat, as everyone was tired from their day out, but Rano insisted that she wanted her guests to eat homemade food for their first night in Hoshiarpur.

Mohinder & Geet sat with the Khuranas in the main living area.

"How are you finding Hoshiarpur so far?" Mohinder asked them, adjusting his glasses.

"It's very beautiful & lively, yet peaceful and quiet at the same time." replied Savitri Devi. "It's nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of Delhi."

They all had dinner to eat, then Maan & Dev went upstairs, to unpack & settle into their rooms.

Savitri Devi also left, gesturing for Rano to make her move. Geet & Pari also stood up to leave but their father stopped them.

"Girls, can you sit down? We need to talk."

They sat down, looking confused.

"Savitri Devi is pleased with both of you," said Rano. Geet opened her mouth to protest, but Rano cut in. "I know what you're going to say Geet, but just hear me out. She wants both of you to marry into her family."

Pari looked pleased with the news. Geet was furious.

"Maa, I told you, I don't want to get married! You should have made that clear to Savitri Devi!"

"Geet, this is a very good proposal. The Khuranas have a billion dollar empire, they're well respected, established people who could have any girl they wanted for their daughters in law. But they chose both of you."

"I don't care if they're well respected, rich people, that doesn't matter to me! I don't want to get married! Dad, say something!" Geet turned to Mohinder for support.

"Rano, we don't have to say yes to Savitri Devi right now."

"Pari's happy, aren't you?" Rano asked.

Pari half smiled.

"Yes, Maa, I'm happy but if Geet doesn't want to get married-"

Geet stood up, annoyed. "My opinion doesn't count for much in this house anyway, doesn't it? I'm my own person, Maa. I wish you could see that."

"Geet!" Rano called, but she stormed off upstairs angrily. Pari rushed after her.

Geet stormed into their room, leaving the door open behind her for Pari. She sat down on the bed, her sister joined her.

"I'm so tired of Maa thinking that we both want the same thing," Geet said quietly.

"She just wants the best for us."

Geet shook her head. "No, she wants what she thinks is best for us."

"Do you blame her? People in the village already frown upon us because we're 20 and not yet married. They weren't happy when they found out we were getting educated."

"Why do we have to live by the rules of society? Why should we feel like we have to get married at a young age? What's wrong with wanting to break free from your own little world and seeing the bigger picture?"

"Nothing's wrong with it, Geet, but-"

"But no woman has dared to do it before. I look around me & I see the same thing going on. Women getting married young, having children and taking care of their husbands. That's it. The same cycle, repeated, generation after generation."

"But the marriage proposal that both of us have gotten from Delhi could change that. We'd be living in a city, experiencing this new culture that you've always wanted to experience."

"I don't want to be tied down to a family, though. I want to be my own person."

Pari sighed, placing her head on Geet's shoulder lovingly. "Just think about it. No one's asking for an answer yet."

"I already know my answer," Geet said quietly, looking down at her feet sadly.

The next morning, the sisters were up bright & early before everyone else, much to Geet's annoyance. She knew that with guests in the house, there was no chance of her having her beloved lie-ins. She decided to take the opportunity of a sleeping house to catch up on some business news.

Pari was still applying her make up when Geet decided to head downstairs. She got to the bottom of the stairs when she could already hear the TV on. She crossed through to the area where the TV was when she saw the back of Maan's head. He sat there, watching the business channel.

"Ahem," Geet cleared her throat. Maan turned around & saw Geet standing there. She was wearing purple today, with her hair tied in a loose ponytail.

"Oh, sorry," he said. "I woke up early so I thought I'd see how the markets are doing."

"I was about to do the same thing, but it's ok, I'll find something else to do."

Geet turned to leave.

"Wait," said Maan. She turned back to face him. "You can watch the news with me, if you like. We both have an interest in it, so why not?"

Maan moved to the far end of the sofa, and Geet sat on the other end. They both watched with eager interest as the reporter talked about the trade markets.

"The markets aren't doing too bad," Geet said.

"They're at the highest they've been for 6 months."

"I know."

Maan & Geet looked at each other briefly, then looked away.

As they continued watching & commenting, Savtiri Devi passed by the area briefly. She was looking ahead at first, then turned and saw the back of their heads glued to the TV screen. She smiled to herself & walked away.

Chapter 5

(Sorry guys, I know this part was meant to be the propostion, but that will be in the next update!)
