Part 2: Buds of Friendship
He looked down to see a beautiful pair of hazel eyes with a hint of green. Fear and confusion was clearly visible in them. He couldn't help but smile at the innocence spread across her face. She finally looked at his face and instantly got lost in the chocolate brown depth of his eyes. The moment their eyes met, the time stopped. To them, everything around them was moving in slow motion until'
"Can you love-birds go and romance somewhere else? I have a flight to catch."
Both parted in an instance and made for the old grumpy man.
Kripa looked at Angad sheepishly. "I'm so sorry...I was actually looking back to see if my mother was still crying...I am so sorry."
"No no...Don't be. It's my fault...I was lost in my own world...I'm sorry."
Both picked up their bags and approached the security check. Angad made a sweeping gesture towards the door with his hand. "After you."
Kripa smiled. "Oh. I will take forever. I have a lot of stuff to put in the bin. Go ahead..."
"Ladies first"
"Oh come on...go...you'll miss your flight otherwise." Kripa insisted.
"I don't think I will."
While the two were busy deciding who will go first, a woman walked in between them and stood for her checking. Angad and Kripa laughed and Kripa at last gave in and went before him.
After the security check, both apologized once again and parted with a handshake.

"Proceed this way sir, seat number A106." The pretty airhostess guided Angad.
Angad thanked her and proceeded through the business class, browsing for his seat. He found his seat and groaned internally seeing a lady seated in the window seat beside his. She was so busy looking outside; she didn't hear him sit down in his seat. He noticed she had her seatbelt fastened already. He smirked and shook his head. He decided to go to the washroom before the flight took off.
Angad came back and sat down to notice the girl still lost outside. He put on his seatbelt and rested his arms on the hand rest. A few seconds later, he felt another hand cover his. Surprised, he looked at the fair, tiny, and soft hand covering his big one and then he looked at the girl to whom the hand belonged.
He smiled wide seeing the same pretty girl he had bumped into earlier. She had her eyes closed tightly. As the plane moved faster on the runway, the harder her hand gripped his. He slowly turned his hand taking her palm in his and entwined their fingers together.
Feeling the tingle down her spine, Kripa opened her eyes and looked at their hands. She pulled her hand back, gave him a quick glance as she blurted a "sorry" and turned back to the window. When her brain processed the image of the person she'd just seen, she turned around in a whiff.
"Hi!" Angad beamed a smile.
"Hey you!" Kripa smiled back.
"Hey me!"
"No...I mean...what are you doing here?"
"Lets see...playing soccer!"
"Ha-ha. That was so funny that I forgot to laugh." Kripa rolled her eyes.
"Please stay seated and keep your seatbelts fastened. The flight is about to take off."
Kripa stiffened and closed her eyes. "Oh God! I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die, I'm gonna Die!"
Angad was amused. "Scared of flying?"
"No...I...I just hate the moment the plane breaks contact with the runway!"
"Hmm...By the way. I'm Angad. Angad Khanna."
Kripa looked at him and smiled. "I'm Kripa. Kripa Patel."
"So where are you going?"
"I believe this flight goes to Amsterdam Mr.Khanna."
Angad raised his eyebrows. "Please...Call me Angad. And I know this flight goes to Amsterdam...I meant your final destination."
Kripa nodded once. "India. Delhi! How about you?"
"India. Mumbai. Do you live in Toronto?"
"No...I don't but I do."
Angad was puzzled. "What?"
Kripa couldn't help but giggle at his expression. "I study in Toronto...I am originally from Hamilton."
"Oh" Angad said Fascinated, "I study in Toronto and live in Toronto as well......you have a boyfriend?"
Kripa hated it when strangers asked her that question. She wasn't ashamed of admitting the fact that she didn't have a love life history but when she didn't know someone and they asked her about her love life; it annoyed her...big time. She frowned at him. "Aren't you getting a bit too personal?"
Angad moved closer to her, bringing his face closer to hers and Kripa compensated by moving back. "You know what?" Angad said suppressing a smile, "we've taken off!"
Kripa gasped, turned around, and looked outside to see tiny houses and buildings out of the window. They were pretty high up from the ground. She smiled and turned around to look at him. He simply smiled and winked at her.
Kripa was sort of embarrassed. "Thanks...and...Sorry."
Angad shrugged. "It's okay...now we're together for six hours...might as well become friends."
"Friends?" Kripa raised an eyebrow.
"Okay fine...how about flight buddies?"
Kripa contemplated for a second and then shrugged. What the hell. Why not? "Okay."
"Great...how about I start...you know who I am...I study at the University of Toronto...St.George Campus...in management. My family consists of my parents, a cousin sister, and exactly three best friends..." He looked at her gesturing her to give her introduction. He couldn't quite figure out why she smiled the way she did but he didn't interrupt her.
"Alright...um...I study in the University of Toronto, St.George campus in the Radiation Therapy program...I have no siblings and I have exactly three best friends...I enjoy dancing and I play the guitar."
"You're at the St.George Campus? How come I've never seen you??" Angad asked.
Kripa: we must have passed each other at some point.
Angad shook his head. "No...I think not. I'm sure we haven't. If we had, I would have remembered such a beautiful young lady."
Kripa: Thanks for the compliment...
Angad shrugged. "I wasn't too subtle with that, was I?"
Kripa giggled. "No...Anything but subtle."
Just then, the air hostess interrupted. "Would you like a drink Ma'm? Sir?"
Kripa nodded. "Coke please...two ice cubes."
Angad: make that two.
The air hostess served them and walked off. Angad looked at her and smiled making her raise her eyebrows.
Kripa: what?
Angad shook his head as he chuckled. "No...Nothing...it's just...you're so particular about the number of ice cubes in your coke."
Kripa shrugged and joined him in his laughter. "Always have been. And you know'Aw Crap!"
Angad looked at her amusedly as she shuffled around trying to find something. She finally pulled out a cell phone from under her and looked at the screen. A few seconds later she groaned, put her cell in her bag, and put the bag away.
Angad: Parents?
Kripa nodded. "Mom actually. She's wondering if I'm alright...as if I'm some kid. I must have missed the text earlier because I was rushing to check in. My dumb phone continues vibrating until I check my missed messages and calls.
Angad: Time to get a new phone and...All mothers are like that...that's why I turned off my phone the minute I got through the security check. Fathers don't really worry so much.
"Are you kidding me?" Kripa widened her eyes. "My father's probably worrying sick over me! If it weren't for his business conferences, he would never let me travel alone."
Angad nodded understanding and started at the ice cubes in his glass. "My father's always busy with business too."
The edge of disappointment in his voice instantly told her that the topic was sensitive for him. She obviously didn't probe further. After all, they only knew each other, for a few minutes. She was quiet startled with what he said next.
"He's always irritated with my mom...he stays long hours at the office to avoid her." He took a gulp of his coke as if saying that one sentence had parched his throat.
He looked at her, her eyes wide, jaw dropped, expression terrified. It made him chuckle. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Kripa: you've known me for what? Ten minutes? 20 minutes? And you're telling me about your family conflicts without hesitation?
Angad: well, I find it easier to talk to complete strangers. I mean...so what if you know my secrets? Chances are very likely that you don't know the same people I do....I don't have to be worried that you'll tell my secrets to anyone....even if you do...doesn't make much difference...when am I ever going to see you?
"Mr.Khanna...do you always talk so much?" Kripa rolled her eyes.
"Please, call me Angad." He said, not bothering to answer her question.
"Okay An-gad!" she said his name in two distinct syllables. "Do you always tell every stranger you meet everything about your life?"
"Hmm...Not really. Only when I get the vibe."
"The vibe?" one of her perfect eyebrows shot up. "What vibe?"
Angad sighed before replying. "You might think I'm creepy but when I meet someone, I get these vibes...they're basically the green light for me indicating that I can trust them...call it a sixth sense if you wish but the people who give me these vibes usually meet me again...most of the people who gave me these vibes, in the past, are now my friends."
Kripa rolled her eyes at him thinking this must be a new way to pick up girls these days. "And I, out of all the people on this plane am giving you those vibes?" She took a long sip of her coke.
Angad eyebrows rose up in amusement. "Yes...in fact...stronger than I've ever felt them."
Kripa smiled and shook her head. "Mr.Khanna...how many girls have you tried this on?"
Angad raised one eyebrow again and cocked his head to the side, looking at her. "You don't believe me." It was more of a statement rather than a question but Kripa shook her head anyways.
"Even if I do believe you...what are the chances that we'll ever meet after this?" She looked at him as if she'd won an argument.
"Actually, chances are pretty high...especially considering that we're both at the same campus." He shrugged.
She laughed and his breath caught for a moment. The sound was wind chimes and silver bells. "Well Mr.Khanna...Being on the same campus has not helped for two years."
Angad looked at her for a long minute as if trying to figure something out. When he continued staring, Kripa raised her eyebrows questioningly.
"The vibe tells me we'll meet again..." He said coolly.
Kripa shifted in her seat uncomfortably under his stare, making him chuckle. He decided to lighten the mood and rewind the conversation.
"So you didn't tell me what your boyfriend's name is."
"I don't have one." Kripa smiled.
"Beautiful, Smart, friendly, and Single....Rare combination." He smirked.
"You've already concluded I'm smart and Friendly?"
"Vibes, remember?"
"Oh yes...of course...the mysterious vibes." Kripa rolled her eyes.
Kripa became comfortable with talking to him after a few minutes. Both chatted away as if they were childhood friends. They told each other their most embarrassing moments, which was tripping and falling on the subway for Kripa and getting his shorts pulled down during a soccer game for Angad, their likes and dislikes, their favourite movies, music, colors, cars, sports. They realized they had a lot in common. They didn't even realize that six hours of flight had passed and they were about to land.
After they stepped onto the airport at Amsterdam, they had to part ways. They simply shook hands and parted with a "Nice meeting you."
