Kabhi Kabhi Part 3
Three Years ago; Delhi.
Kripa Kapoor stood in the gym examining her self, sweat glistened around her face. Despite the fact thousands of people worked out at he gym at once it was clean and smelled clean.
Now, Kripa flattened her shirt against her stomach, nothing had changed over the last two months. Three years ago Kripa had not been the person she was as she sat talking to Karan. She was over weight which made her look shorter. She had been under watch of a dietitians. They took care of her everything from how much she slept to what she ate. This didn't happen because Kripa wanted to loose weight, so that guy would turn their heads and give her one look, or because she was scared she won't get married and have a pleasant life because of her looks. She knew this was untrue. She knew there was someone who loved her the way she is, she just didn't know who it was. But, the reason she was working on her looks was due to her parents, they were worried about their daughter. Kirpa's older sister Saamiya had many guys around her like flies over a piece of candy. She was beautiful, slim with soft brown tones, and brown eyes. Unlike Kripa Saamiya had been coming to the gym from the time she was fifteen; now she was twenty. Fit and nearly perfect. On the contrary, Kripa who was 17 at the moment was not so fit and not even close to perfect. Yet, despite of all the differences they shared the two were very close.
Kripa was disappointed because she had been working at the gym and there had been no improvement. She took a drink out of her ice cold water bottle and then went back to the treadmill. After completing another mile she sat on the floor and stretched her legs out.
It was summer time, and everyone was out of town. The gym was empty with the exception of a few guys and girls and about three instructors.
After Kripa caught her breath and her heart was back to the normal beats per minute she stood up and made her way to the locker room. She took her cloths and went for a shower. She stood in the shower still for a few minutes allowing the cool water wash down her. On a hot summer day in Delhi, a nice cool bath would hurt no one. Kripa took her sweet time as she knew no one was waiting for her. She changed into her other cloths, and then walked back to her locker. She opened it and took her cosmetics out; that included just lotion and a clear gloss like everyday. She applied it on and brushed her hair. As she turned around she noticed herself. She couldn't deny that there was a slight difference in her appearance. Now she flattened her shirt against her again and realized how big it was. And, now she examined her jeans. They were loose, but not loose to where it would fall of as she walked. Kripa smiled now, she was doing better, and it was time when she took this a little more seriously.
Kripa, couldn't deny the fact that she was happy about when people noticed her or complimented her. In the course of the past months she had changed many things, her hair to her dressing style. This had happened only because of one person, Saamiya. Who also promised Kripa that the day she had reached her destination Saamiya would take Kripa to the biggest beauticians to get her a makeover. Saamiya loved Kripa dearly and she wasn't ashamed of her at any time. But she wanted Kripa to be like her. Only for one small reason, she wished her sister would go shopping with her and they would be able to do more things together. Saamiya and Kripa, right from the time they were very young were different. Saamiya liked hanging around with guys because she was the flirty type, Kripa hung with guys because she was slightly tom boyish. Make-up, dressing up, playing with dolls, this was just not her cup of tea. Saamiya and Kripa were close but apart, but they still respect each others decisions.
"Hey Kripa!" Someone said in the locker room.
Kripa snapped out of her trance and turned around to see her older sister standing behind her, looking, like always, beautiful.
"Hi Di!" Kripa greeted.
"Kripa you ready?" She asked excited.
"For what?" Kripa asked as she shut her locker leaving a loud sound of the shutting metal.
"Your training is done!"
"What?" Kripa asked irritated, I still fit into a size nine.
"Ah! It worked!" Saamiya jumped in the air as she spoke.
Kripa was confused, "What worked?"
"My sweet silly sister, I have already changed your entire closet. Each month I went out and brought you the same cloths in different sizes and you never noticed!"
"What?"
"Yes sister! Your wearing a small right now, from the Juniors section!" She smiled at Kripa, who stood their shocked. She hadn't noticed how much weight she had lost, and how different she looked.
Fifteen minutes later, Kripa and Saamiya sat in Kripa's room which had also gone through a major change. Kripa had spend around four hours in the gym this morning. And these four hours had given Saamiya enough time to give her room a make over as well. Before Kirpa's room was in a theme of cars. Now, her room was an British English dcor. And, without a doubt Kripa loved it. She suddenly felt different.
She walked around the room, in four hours Saamiya had changed her life. Her walls used to be a dirty white, with rugs of cars and bikes. Now her walls were an elegant off-white color. Kripa's room was the second largest in the house. And, when Saamiya was getting it designed she was glad she did. The floor was now a shimmering white marble with stains of black. So clean Kripa could see herself in the floor.
Her bed was changed as well, from a red comforter with a large design of a car on the top to a beautiful cream color with lace around it for a frame. Next, she turned and noticed her changed dresser. It was made of marble, and all around the mirror, the marble was carved with beautiful designs. Kripa ran her hand around it feeling every cut of the design. She looked at her self in the mirror and saw Saamiya behind her, please.
Kripa continued to glance around the room. It was just beautiful. A large sofa seat had been added to the room near the window, something like the thrown of a royal queen of England. In front of it was a small table and then another same sofa seat. Set in the center of the table was a beautiful glass center piece. Kripa looked around examining other little things, her eyes stood finally on the right wall, which was blank.
She walked to it and noticed a large square drawn with pencil. "Di, what's this?" She asked as she traced the lines with her small fingers.
"This," Saamiya began as she walked to Kripa and stood beside her, "we have decided to frame your picture here!"
"Oh!" Kripa now turned to the her bed and noticed the same lines on the wall behind it. "And that?" She pointed at the wall.
"Well, we can put one more frame there." Saamiya suggested.
"Can I ask for something?"
"Yes, but what?" Saamiya said in a soft voice.
"How about we frame a large picture of Rahul, You, and I on this wall," she pointed at the wall behind her bed. "And there," she turned and looked at the left wall, "we can frame a picture of me in the center and then photographs around it from when we were young, and other family photographs."
Saamiya smiled her younger sister spoke, "I love you!" She said hugging her sister.
"By the way when is Rahul coming back?" Kripa asked pulling away.
"Tomorrow!"
"Awesome!" Kripa said, still looking around.
"Oh crap!" Saamiya yelled, "We are late, come on we have an appointment with a dermatologist at twelve!" She grabbed Kripa's arm and they both rushed to car and to the doctors office.
Saamiya sat in the lobby flipping thought a magazine while Kripa listened to her I-pod, and at the same time browsing her phone.
Saamiya glanced up when she head the door open and a well dressed lady walked to them.
"It's your turn." She said to Saamiya, who smiled at the lady and then took Kripa away.
Kripa laid on a tiny bed, hey eyes closed as the doctor examined her skin under a bright light.
"She has healthy and beautiful skin, she just needs to take care of it." The doctor said as she shut the lights and asked Kripa to sit up.
"Then how can we make it look beautiful?" Saamiya asked.
"Well," the doctor started flipping through some files, "we can fix that for you today itself. All we need is two hours."
"Given!" Saamiya said.
"But Di, I have to-"
"No Kripa. We are going to do this today itself!" She demanded. Kripa sighed and followed the doctor into another room.
She laid on another bed and another light turned of, about three doctors worked on her. Giving her face many treatments. Kirpa was a beautiful girl with flawless skin, the only problem was she never took care of herself.
Saamiya waited for Kripa for two hours, and when she finally came out she was awed. Next, the took a lunch break and had a lunch at a small restaurant. Kripa was so used to eating all the fat free, oil free food she just couldn't handle the Indian spices and oils any longer. Therefore, the two had Italian food, which didn't contain too much oil.
After that Saamiya took Kripa to every boutique in Delhi. Kripa bought everything from western to Indian outfits. She had everything from jeans to skirts. Everything from salwaars to lenghas. Saamiya made her try a few saris but she didn't have the look at the age of 17 to wear saris, so that idea was dropped.
And, around eight they both got home exhausted. They both flopped on the sofa and gulped down a glass of water. Kripa asked a maid to take her things to the room. After a small chat they both went to their rooms. The Kapoors weren't home yet, and the house was quite. Kripa changed into her night suit and then fell on her bed. She looked at the ceiling. The room still smelled like the fresh paint, which was started to irritate Kripa within seconds. She sat up and walked to Saamiya's room.
"Di!" Saamiya was in the bathroom. She looked around and opened her closet and took out a few scented candles and took them back to her room. She set them around the room and then closed the door behind her. She took out the matches and lit the candles. Within seconds the room smelled different. Kripa sat down near the window. She was happy Rahul was coming back.
Rahul was in U.S.A. he wanted to spend the summer with Nishtay's, Kripa's Dad, sister, their Bua. Summer would end in three week, schools and colleges would start again.
Rahul was two years younger than Kripa, he was only fifteen. But acted like he was older to both Kripa and Saamiya. Rahul was like his father. Man of the house, but sweet and loving. Not at all stuck up and arrogant. Like Nishtay, Rahul loved everyone in the family. Right from the start Rahul had followed Kripa's footsteps who followed her fathers. Rahul was a smart kid, in two years he would be in college, and just like his Dad and Kripa he wanted to major MBA. And, Kripa was glad he was going to, wanted to. It was a fact one day both Saamiya and Kripa would be married, in the beginning Kripa would help her father but after starting her own family she wouldn't have time. And then Rahul would be perfect to help his father.
Kripa suddenly smiled as the though of her getting married crossed her mind. She heard a soft knock on the door, before standing up she looked into the sky, it was an orange. Looking beautiful. For a second Kripa thought all these things were changing her. She smiled thinking about her marriage and kids. She felt like she was in paradise when she looked into the orange sky, and she actually was liking the changes in her room and style. She sighed and turned to see Nishtay smiling at the door. Kripa smiled back and walked into her dad's arms.
"You're my most beautiful daughter!" He said kissing her daughter, "I love my baacha!"
Kripa hugged him tightly, "I love you to Dad."
"Come lets have dinner."
"Lakin…"
"No, I want to have dinner with my daughter." Kripa smiled and they both went downstairs where Saamiya was waiting as well.
"Mama kaha hai?" Kripa asked looking around.
"She went off to bed Beta."
"Oh!"
Nishtay sat between both her daughters while the maid served them, and then left. The three sat, talked about almost everything and then went to the sofa and enjoyed a cup of coffee.
"Papa, ajj aachnak aap itna aacha mood main kaisa hai," Saamiya teased her father.
Kripa grinned and Nishtay gave her oldest daughter and smile as well. Nishtay Kapoor was more than a father to his daughters. Both, Kirpa and Saamiya had shared everything with him. Nishtay knew everything about his daughters. Saamiya had told him about every guy she had dated, to how many times she had slapped someone, how much times she got in a fight at school and how many times she attempted to cheat on a test. Nishtay, was proud of that, no, no, not proud of her daughter cheating or getting in fights. But proud of the fact that she had told him everything. This way he knew he had a daughter he could trust.
Kripa on the other hand was different, she told Nishtay everything but her life didn't hold much too tell. Kripa was loved by her parents but she was a sad person inside. She pondered many times why? She was happy at many occasions, but then at the same time she liked to be left alone, sad. Like something was killing her, eating inside her. Why was she the way she was?
And, like everything when the three got together even tonight Saamiya was the one doing all the talking, and joking. Teasing her father. And, Kripa had went back into thoughts. Why was she like this?
Nishtay put his hand on her shoulder and Kripa snapped out. "What's wrong Kripa?"
"Nothing Papa," like when she was younger she placed her head on her fathers chest and hugged him, and happily he hugged her back, and Saamiya joined the hugging feast.
"I have something to give you," Nishtay announced after a few minutes. Both, Kripa and Saamiya sat up. Nishtay reached into his pocket and took out two tickets. "You guys have two weeks to tour Europe!"
Kripa and Saamiya both snatched the tickets from him, then jumping in joy Kripa and Saamiya hugged each other.
Nishtay stood up as well and stood between them. "Now where's my gift?"
Kripa and Saamiya kissed their father and hugged him saying, "I love you Dad!"
And he kissed both her daughters, and simply said, "I love you too."
Kripa and Saamiya had been begging Nishtay since last summer to send them to Europe. And, finally they got what they had been waiting for. Their flight was in two days and neither one of them could wait.
Saamiya knew what she was going, and she was Kripa knew what she wanted to do. What they didn't know was, there was someone waiting for them in Europe who would change, Kripa's life forever. And, everyday after she was going to wish that this trip she was dieing for never took place.
