Nothing Can Keep Us Apart
Part 91 - So sweet
"You're sure she's not sick?"
"No, I think she's still just a little upset from you being gone."
"Well, then I'm not leaving ever again. I don't like to be the reason she cries."
"Maan," laughed Geet, as she cuddled her daughter, but looked at her husband's downcast face. "It's not your fault. It's normal for babies to begin missing their parents. Any way, I think..."
Geet was interrupted by the ringing of the phone. Since her hands were full of Priya, Maan reached out to answer it. He listened briefly, then put the phone back down. When he moved to leave the room, Geet asked where he was going.
"That was Pinky. She wants my help at reception. Apparently there's some difficulty with a potential client. I'll be back in a little bit."
Maan left their office, and headed down to the reception area. As he got closer he could hear their new head architect, Bimala Shah, speaking to someone. When he turned the corner, he saw the back of a tall man, who had his arm around a woman, standing in front of Bimmi, as she liked to be called.
"I'm really sorry, but Khurana Constructions only handles large construction sites. I can give you some recommendations for excellent companies that will be happy to do this project for you."
"Is there a problem?" questioned Maan with authority, as he came up to the desk.
"Sir, they wanted to meet you without an appointment," said Bimmi, "and also they want..."
"Have we met before?" interrupted Maan, as the two people Bimmi was discussing turned around to face him. "In Switzerland, was it? George and Rose, Dadima's friends."
"Absolutely correct, Mr. Khurana," replied the man, as he held out his hand to Maan for a hand shake.
"It's nice to see you again," said Maan, as he returned the gesture by extending his own hand.
"What's going on?" asked a female voice, accompanied by the gurgling sounds of a baby.
"Geet, this is George and Rose DeMello, friends of Dadima. George and Rose, this is my wife, Geet, and our daughter Priya."
They all said their hellos, and then Geet asked Bimmi to tell her the problem. "Ma'am, Mr. and Mrs. DeMello want us to build a bungalow for them. I tried to explain that that is not the kind of project that we do, but they were insistent."
"Thank you for your efforts, Bimmi, but as they are Dadima's friends, I think that we can at least discuss with them, before saying yes or no, don't you Maan?"
"Certainly, Geet. Right now would be a perfect time."
"Why don't you all go ahead. I'll just take Priya to Mrs. Chatterjee, and then join you."
"Oh, Mrs. Khurana, don't feel like you have to leave your daughter on our account," said Rose DeMello. "We both love children. She won't bother us at all."
So Priya was allowed to attend her first business meeting. George DeMello explained how he wanted to build a home in India for Rose for their 5th anniversary. They wanted the bungalow to not only be a welcoming place that they could come to whenever they visited India, but also a reflection of their love, like the Taj Mahal. Maan listened intently to their ideas, and was quite engrossed in the discussion. At one point, Geet tapped him on the shoulder a few times to get his attention.
"What is it, Geet?"
Looking down at their squirming daughter, she smiled and said, "I think she wants you to hold her."
Maan's face brightened and he extending his arms towards Priya. She went to him eagerly, and as she cuddled into his chest, Geet and Maan looked into each other's eyes. All of their emotions were there, visible for anyone to see.
"So sweet and romantic!" exclaimed Rose, breaking the spell between the two lovers. "George, I am sure that no one will be able to build our house like the Khuranas. They are the sweetest family, and the most romantic couple."
"You're right, Rose. Savitri Devi was bang on when she told us her grandson was the man for the job."
After discussing the rest of the initial details, the four adults came to a preliminary agreement. George and Rose left, happy in the knowledge that their dream of their house being their 'pyaar ki nishani' would come true. Maan was satisfied with the arrangement, because he would be working directly with Geet on this project. Somehow, he felt the DeMellos had given him what he needed to succeed in his plan to make Geet confess her feelings.
