hey vn wl u update plzzzzzzzzzz update soon
Maan straightened up and looked at her searchingly with concern written all over his face.
Seeing his troubled expression, she hastened to reassure him, "Maan, this is most blissful moment in my life. I cannot express in words how beautiful this union of ours was. It only reaffirms that I'm truly blessed to have you as my life partner. Although I've been through a lot of pain and disappointment in life, destiny has been kind enough to give me another opportunity to start afresh. Today I am a confident woman who can stand on her own feet and I owe that to you. You've showered me with so much love there is nothing that I really lack. All this happiness only makes me more conscious of the fact that not all women, who have been through similar pain as mine, are as lucky as me. For some time now, I've been pondering about doing something for such unfortunate women who have been duped by their husbands and shunned by their own families."
Maan was amazed to hear this and exclaimed, "Wow Geet! That is such a noble thought! Is this the cause you had mentioned to me on our first date?"
Geet nodded her head.
He held her face between his palms and said in wonderment, "You never cease to amaze me, woman. When most girls your age would be immersed in their own little world, bothered about their studies, their clothes, their boyfriends, their makeup and the like, you are concerned about the less fortunate ones. That sure requires a very large heart, Geet. There is so much I need to learn from you."
"You learning from me? You must be joking, Maan. You are one of the most generous man I've ever seen. Why, you even provided your entire staff with food and conveyance. Now how many employers would do that?"
Maan smiled sheepishly and said, "Well, that was not entirely altruistic. That was the only way I could make sure that you had proper meals and were not stressed out travelling in the public transport."
Geet eyes widened in surprise, "You mean to say that you did all that for me?"
Maan nodded his head. "I knew that if I were to offer these benefits only to you, your self-respect would not let you accept them. So I had to extend them to all the employees so that you do not suspect my real intentions. You see, my so called generosity had a selfish end. Doing anything for you was like doing it for me, for you are my life. You, on the other hand, want to help faceless and nameless women you don't even know."
Geet was embarrassed by all the praises heaped on her. "Don't make a big deal out of it, Maan. I only want to reciprocate the kindness shown to me."
"So how exactly do you want to help them?" he asked curiously.
"I'm still not clear about it and want your advice in the matter. I've been setting aside some money for the cause from my salary every month."
"How much money have you saved up so far?"
"Thanks to your generous contribution of Rs.1.6 lakhs, I now have about Rs.1.8 lakhs in my fund," she said proudly.
Maan smiled at her innocent exuberance.
"That's not much to do something that would make a difference in the lives of these women. You need a lot more money than that."
She looked disappointed in hearing this. She was lost in thought for a couple of minutes and suddenly her face brightened up.
"I can sell my Hoshiarpur land. That should fetch a good price. I'll add that to my fund."
Maan was astounded hearing this, "You are willing to part with something so dear for your cause?! No Geet, I do not want you to sell that land. We can put that land to far better use."
"But then, what shall we do for the money?"
"Geet, you are not alone in this. Remember that you are married to a multi-millionaire who can not only give you ideas to implement your objective but also the necessary finances. "
Her face again lit up hearing this."You will really support me?" she asked eagerly.
"Yes," he nodded his head. "In fact, I'm ashamed that I did not think of indulging in such causes till now. But I am happy that through my association with you, I am getting an opportunity to be a socially responsible human being. Thank you, my darling."
Geet blushed and said, "Maan, stop embarrassing me with your praises and give me a concrete plan to implement our cause."
Maan said, "Give me some time to think."
"Ok, then let me have a shower. Hope you come up with something by the time I'm done."
"Hey, you cannot shower alone. I want to shower with you," he demanded and tried to catch her but she was too fleet footed for him. She jumped out of the bed and into the bathroom in a jiffy with her clothes.
Smiling at her, Maan stretched out his hand for the note pad which lay in a nearby table. Picking it up he quickly jotted down a few things. When she came out from the bathroom later, he had already firmed up his thoughts on the subject. Asking her to wait till he joins her, he quickly went in to shower.
After a few minutes, they both sat down on the couch in the room. Maan held his notepad in his hand as he chalked out their plan.
"See, we need to have a more holistic approach to this entire problem. The root cause of such failed marriages is ignorance on the part of the girl's side about the non-resident groom. We can help to remove this ignorance by setting up a matrimonial centre with branches in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. to start with, since most grooms are from here. Now these branches will engage people who will do a thorough background check on the prospective groom before registering their names. Any person who approaches our centres here in India for an NRI groom for his daughter will only be given the details of such genuine clientele. The fathers of the girls can then get their daughters married with confidence."
"Wow, Maan that is a splendid idea. But would that not involve a lot of work?"
"Yes, it would. It may take some time before I can operationalise this plan. I am planning to elicit the support of my friends in these countries who can take care of the setting up of the overseas branches. To cover the cost, we can collect some nominal fee from those who can afford it and make it free of cost for those who can't. Now coming to those women who are already affected by such fraudulent marriages and are abandoned by their own families, I was thinking of setting up a placement agency for the qualified ones, so that they can find a suitable job. For the unqualified, we can establish a polytechnic institute which can impart appropriate skills to enable these women to get absorbed in the job market later. Your Hoshiarpur land can be put to use for setting up these centres. We can set up similar centres in Delhi, too."
"All this will cost quite a lot, wouldn't it?" asked Geet skeptically.
"Yes, it would. We'll pool in our resources and also raise funds from other like minded individuals/agencies. Where there is a will, there is a way. Nobody has taught me that better than you, Geet."
Geet was pleased that Maan understood and supported her cause so well. She thanked him profusely from the bottom of her heart for being a true life partner.
That evening, Dev and Naintara returned back from Agra, having finished their work a couple of days early. They were puzzled by the elaborate decorations and lighting which still adorned the mansion and kept looking around the house in wonderment. Just then Dadi entered the hall and seeing her, Dev rushed to take her blessings. Dadi at first ignored him and tried to walk away but Dev was persistent.
"Dadima, please forgive me," he pleaded, "I've learnt my lesson and want to reform myself."
Dadi relented after sometime and lightly placing her hand on his head she blessed him saying, "Hope God gives you the sense to not repeat your sins."
NT also fell at her feet asking for her forgiveness and Dadi gave her a half hearted blessing.
"Dadima, what is the occasion? Why is the entire house decked up?" asked Dev curiously looking the house up and down.
"Oh, that!" Dadima said nonchalantly. "Maan got married only yesterday."
"Maan is married?" asked both Dev and NT in unison, shocked by the sudden development that they were not aware of. "Why were we not informed about it or invited for it? What was the urgency to have it in our absence?" asked Dev angrily.
"Well, your brother was in a tearing hurry to get married. What can I do?" asked Dadi pretending innocence.
"Who is the girl?" asked Dev. NT was still struggling to come to terms with the fact that she no longer was the sole bahu of the house.
"Girl?" asked Dadi in annoyance. "Show her some respect and address her as Bhabhi. She is your brother's wife now. I think you already know her."
"I know her?" asked Dev in puzzlement.
Dadi nodded her head. "Remember your brother's secretary whom you were convinced Maan had more than a passing interest in? Well, it looks like you were right all along. Your brother is in love with her and they are even expecting a baby now."
Dev gave a sly smile, "Oh, so bro was so besotted with his secretary that he could not even wait to wed her before he bedded her? I wouldn't have expected this of him although I did have my suspicions when I heard them outside the conference room the night I went to return his cell phone. So did he rush to tie the knot because he did not want people to know that he knocked her up?" he asked languidly.
Dadi merely shrugged her shoulders, not wanting to continue the conversation. NT's face had shrunk in size hearing the impending arrival of the heir to the Khurana empire. Just then Maan and Geet came down the stairs, chatting among themselves. Although they were surprised to see Dev and NT before time, they quickly masked it and gave a grim smile. Dev and NT, however, couldn't hide their shock as their jaws dropped down and their eyes popped out. They appeared like they have been administered a tight slap each. Dadi seemed oblivious to the undercurrents between the four of them. She called out to Geet and introduced her to both of them.
"Geet, this is Dev, my second grandson and his wife Naintara. Dev, this is Geet, Maan's ex-secretary and present wife."
Dev and NT tried hard to smile but failed miserably. Dev started sweating profusely and NT's face shrunk even more in size.
"What are you two standing there and staring at my bahu for? Have you forgotten your manners? Don't you know you have to pay obeisance to your bhabhi? Fall at her feet and take her blessings," Dadi commanded.
Both Dev and NT hesitated but catching Dadi's firm stare, they hurriedly bent and touched Geet's feet. Geet looked at Maan uncertainly as he gave her a lopsided smile and motioned her to give her blessing.
"Jeete Raho!" she whispered in a shaky voice as her mind flew to the past when she was the one who was made to fall at the feet of her fake husband and fake jhetani who later ditched her at the airport and laughed at her plight wickedly. The tables had really turned and how! She marveled at the irony of the situation. Finally there seemed to be some poetic justice in it.
