Chapter 4B:
Geet was momentarily stunned speechless. Woah. Why didn't I think of all of this?
Ah! The pictures right. "Maan...the pictures that I got, remember? The pictures of you in Naintara's arms. I mean it was pretty obvious that it was you. Wait, why am I even trying to explain this. I'll just show you the pictures!"
And with that, Geet stood up and marched into her room, shuffling through closets and cupboards as she looked for those pictures that had ruined her life, turned her world upside down, 7 years earlier.
Ten minutes later, a stack of pictures were thrown on the table in front of him and Maan looked up to see Geet standing before him, her hands folded across her chest as she went off on another rant. "You wanted proof right? Here it is! Have fun reliving memories of that wonderful night of yours when you decided to cheat on your wife with your ex-fiance" she screamed, before she turned around and headed out of the room, slamming the door shut behind her.
Maan quirked an eyebrow up as he stared at her retreating figure. "I asked for proof? This woman's apparently gone crazy in the past few years as well" he thought to himself, as he rolled his eyes and redirected his attention to the stack of pictures in front of him.
And it was him in the pictures.
It was him hugging Naintara.
As he looked closer, everything came back to him.
And he wanted to hit his head out of the sheer frustration. Geet was the world's biggest idiot. And he could clarify this huge misunderstanding in a cinch.
But wait.
Woah.
Naintara Rathore was involved. He had forgotten. She was the one that sent the pictures. But why would she lie? Why would she lie about something as huge as this? He had only talked to her that night. And maybe once after that, but still he sure as hell was never in love with her. She was his brother's girl.
His brother.
Dev Singh Khurana.
And he would have information. He would be able to get Maan to prove to his wife, sorry, ex-wife, how terribly mistaken she is.
"Geet! GEET! Get back in here!" he shouted, and soon enough she made her way inside, standing in front of him in a stiff posture, refusing to let down her rigidness as she quirked an eyebrow up.
"Ugh, the attitude isn't necessary. It's me. Just sit down though and I'll prove to you what a confused mess you are" he ordered, before pulling out his phone and making that one phone call that would clear all of his wife's misgivings.
Chapter 5:
He put the phone on speaker as he waited for him to pick up.
One ring. Two rings. Three rings.
Ugh, where was this idiot? Why wasn't he picking up?!
"...Hey Bhai! What's up?" he heard his brother's voice as he finally picked up the phone.
"Finally Dev. Took you long enough to pick up the damn phone. What the hell were you doing anyways?"
As Dev began to respond, Maan cut him off quickly. "Dude listen. I found Geet. And I need-"
"What?! You found Geet Bhabhi?! How is she? Is she there? I want to talk to her!" an excited Dev yelled immediately, completely forgetting what his brother was saying. Before Maan could say anything, Geet interjected. "Hi Dev. I'm right here, and I'm doing well and yes, you're brother found me." Geet answered with a smile. She had always liked Dev. He was the younger brother she never had, and a constant support for her in the beginning of hers and Maan's marriage, when he used to blatantly ignore her, and would drown himself in his work. But Dev had been there for her. A best friend, an amazing brother in law, she loved him to pieces.
"Oh my god! Bhabhi! That's really you! Where have you been all these years? You have to come home! I have so much to tell you, you know that? I got married two years ago and ohh you would love her Bhabhi. She's the nicest person I've met and so sweet and --"
Maan sighed, exasperated. Once these too got to talking, no one would ever be able to stop them. So better to nip the situation right from the get go. "Dev. Shut up, will you? You can catch up with Geet later. But I have questions for you now. And you need to answer them so your Bhabhi here realizes how stupid she was in leaving the house."
Dev stopped immediately, "...and I can answer your questions?"
"Naintara Rathore. Tell me everything you know about her. Tell Geet everything. And then I'll ask more questions if your Bhabhi fails to comprehend."
"Naintara. Why do we have to talk about her? Is it really necessary?" Dev immediately asked, and both Geet and Maan could hear the disgust in his tone as he said those words. "I don't really want to think about her. The bloody bitch."
Geet's eyebrows furrowed questioiningly as she glanced up at Maan, who was already intently gazing at her. "It's necessary Dev. So continue. Bloody bitch and all." answered Maan quickly, and after a slow pause, Dev began.
"Naintara Rathore. I met her ten years ago. I was...what...21? 22? Something like that. But anyways, we met at a party and that was that. I never paid much more attention to her, we ran in the same circle but never really interacted. Then, after yours and bhai's wedding, remember that rough patch I was going through with Dhara? Anyways, I met Naintara at a party then and we hit it off this time around. We met every so often, catching up for a drink, but that was it. She saw me and Naintara eating dinner one night at a restaurant and accused me of cheating and left. I was trying to make Dhara jealous, and well it didn't work. She left, like I told you then, but I didn't tell you the entire story."
Geet immediately glanced up at Maan at these last words, as she heard him mumble "Sounds like someone else I know. Someone who jumps to conclusions without knowing the entire story"
"Wait...did you say anything bhai?" Dev stopped, confused.
"Oh no, not at all. Continue the story" Maan prompted and Dev resumed.
"Well yeah, I didn't tell you the entire story cause I was too ashamed then Bhabhi, but yeah I went and spent the night with Naintara, because well she consoled me and things just kinda seemed to go from one thing to another. Next morning, I woke up with her in the bed, and realized I made a mistake. I apologized, and we decided not to make things too awkward and just drifted apart after that. I didn't hear from her again until two months later, when I got a call from her, telling me she's pregnant. I didn't know what to do then, but didn't want to abort the baby, so I told her we should get married."
Geet, who had been quiet for so long, interrupted immediately. "Get married?! That was your idea of a solution after you found out she was pregnant?! Are you crazy Dev?"
"Geet. Shut up. Let him talk" Maan ordered, and Geet glared at him before sitting back.
"Well, what else was I supposed to do? I was young, and definitely not planning on having kids that early, but I couldn't think of anything else. Well abortion was the first thought, but you know...Anyways. Point being. She said yes. She agreed to marry me. I didn't know how to break the news to both of you or Ma and Dad so I didn't tell anyone right away. Two weeks later, I decide to take her to the doctors, and she says no in the beginning. I asked her why, and she said that she already went. I got mad at her for going without telling me, I mean, I was the baby's dad, I had every right to know what was going on. In my anger, I dragged her to the hospital without listening to her, and surprise surprise, I found out she wasn't pregnant. She told me she loved me and wanted to marry me, apologized, and I asked her if she was crazy and thought we were in one of those crappy TV Soap Operas where the guys are always idiots and just give in to the witches. I called off the wedding, well I broke up with her. And that was that. End of discussion. Chapter closed. Well, actually the entire book was closed." Dev finally ended his story, exhaling deeply, as he waiting for someone to say anything.
Finally, Geet spoke up. "What does this have to do with Maan hugging Naintara and having an affair wit her? How does this prove your innocence Maan?"
Dev was stunned. "Maan Bhai? You had an affair with Naintara?! After you knew everything? Are you crazy?! I never thought you would cheat on Geet Bhabhi. I'm just so disgusted. Ugh..."
"Dev. Shut up. I never cheated on your bhabhi. And Dev, explain to your Bhabhi how I was involved, and the one time I freaking met Naintara. When you introduced me to her. Describe it in detail."
"Oh god. OH! I remember now. It was at that party at Rathore's house, right after I asked her to marry me. I had told Bhai the situation that afternoon, uff it was bad. I told him how I got her pregnant and how I had asked her to marry me. He was fuming, and he told me to get out. That night, at the Rathore party, he dragged me aside, and told me to get her. I introduced the two of them on the terrace. He looked her up and down warily, and I thought he would yell at the both of us again. But needless to say, he hugged me first, and then her, and then congratulated us. He told me the only reason he wasn't yelling was because he didn't want to be the cause of more shit because once Ma and Dad found out, I would be screwed anyways. And he told me not to tell you, because well yeah. I don't know. But yeah, that was the one time the two met. But what does that have to do with anything?"
"Dev, I'll talk and explain everything else to you later. I'm hanging up now. I have to deal with your precious bhabhi now."
And he threw his phone on the side, before turning to face Geet, who was frozen on the sofa.
Oops.
