Part 90

Geet looked at the photo of Maan and Muskan, placed in the drawer of her table and said, "aaj tak wahin hua, jo aapne chaha, Mr. Maan Singh Khurana. Lekin ab, woh hoga, jo Geet maan singh khurana chahegi!"

Geet flew to B'lore the next day. She had lot of discussions with the auditors of the company regarding their accounts and financial status, which went on for the whole day. she got back to the hotel room after dinner and reviewed the details of the company again. The next day, she left to Chennai again. Since it was weekend, she had decided to talk to her boss, Mr. Narang about the contract on Monday. She got back to office on Monday and told her boss that she was ready to sign a contract with the B'lore firm.

Mr. Narang, suggested they have a conference call with the B'lore firm regarding the contract, so that Geet would not have to travel all the way to B'lore to discuss about the contract. She agreed. She thought it was a better idea to fly to B'lore the next time, to start her work , than wasting her time on the legal issues of her contract.

Geet and Mr. Narang, along with Jenny called the B'lore firm to speak to their AFO, Aditya.

"I will contact our main office in Delhi and get back to you, regarding the con tract", said Aditya.

Geet thought for a while. She then said, "Few days back, you told me that everything was ready. All I had to do was sign the contract and today I get a different answer".

Aditya responded, "Yes Ma'am. I did say that. But there are certain issues that need to be resolved internally, before we proceed with signing the contract. There is a slight confusion whether you would work with us in B'lore or in Delhi".

"I was told I would have to work in B'lore!I don't understand, why everything is being changed the last minute", said Geet angrily.

"Ma'am I'm sorry for all the confusion, but our CA in the Delhi office, will be working with our Pune branch as well. So, the main office is still working out things about you and our other CA working part time with the Delhi branch as well".

Geet snapped her hands on the table, "I don't understand what is happening. I have lot of other contracts pending, so I would appreciate it, if you can get back to me, in less than 2 days. I cannot keep the other companies waiting for your sake".

Mr. Narang spoke up, "Yes , Aditya. We need to know ASAP, if you want Geet to work for your company in B'lore or not. She cannot sign the contract for working in Delhi, without reviewing the financial details of that branch. I hope you understand. She will have to meet the people there, analyze the financial status and then get into a contract".

"Yes Mr. Narang, I understand that. I will get back to you, in less than a day!", he said, confidently.

"Alright then, we hope to hear from you, very soon!" said Narang and hung up.

Geet did not like it. She did not like the way the man sounded so confused. She had her own apprehensions and she discussed them with Mr. Narang and Jenny. After getting things cleared she headed back home. She needed some time for herself, she thought.

Khurana Constructions, Delhi:

Maan was talking to Sasha and Adi regarding some important projects and clients , when his 6-year old barged into the meeting room. she was holding her teddy in her hand. Sasha gave her a flying kiss, which she returned very promptly.

She ran to Maan and kissed him. "Beta, main meeting main hoon. Andar aane se pehle knock kar leni chahiye",said Maan, making her sit on his lap and kissing her cheek.

"Papa, ab sab ko ghar se bahar kar do. Sirf main, aap aur Daadi rahenge!", she said, in a cranky voice.

"Kya hua?" asked Maan, reading some important papers.

"Vicky chachu ne mera Cookie ko pareshaan kiya. Aur mujhe bhi pareshaan kiya", she said, pushing her curly back behind her ears. Adi and Sasha looked at each other and suppressed a laugh.

"Hmmm, so only Vicky should be sent out of the house, why send Kia chachi?" asked Maan, still looking at the papers.

Muskan looked at him and realized he was not paying her attention. She pulled away the file and gave it to Adi and said, "mausa , isse aap sambhal lena. Papa, mujhe sambhal lenge!"

"Baby, I need to sign those papers, give them back to me", he said, holding her into his arms.

"No, papa, aap pehle meri problem ko solve karo. Aap chacha-chachi ko ghar se bahar karo"

"Only Vicky is at fault, why should we send Kia out?" asked Maan, "aur waise Vicky ghar pe kya kar raha tha?he was supposed to go the court!"

"Kyunki chachu akele thodi na jayenge, chachi ke saath hi rehte hai hamesha. Aur chachu aaj court nahi gaya. Unka meetings cancel ho gaye!"

"Theek hain, main ghar aake baath karunga unse! Tum jao, ghar!" he said, kissing her again.

"Main yahin rahungi. Mujhe ghar nahin jaani", she said, hugging him, resting her head on his shoulder.

"theek hai. go sit on the couch. I'll finish the meeting and then we'll go home!" he said, patting her cheeks.

"No! mujhe yahin baitna hai!" she said.

Maan moved his head, smiling and thought, "bilkul geet!" he got back to work while Muskan sat quietly and let her dad work. After one hour she spoke again, "tum log itna boring baatein kyun karte ho?"

Sasha said, "beta, jab tum badi ho jaogi, tuo tumhe bhi yeh sab karna padega" Muskan nodded her head in denial. Adi laughed and then they got back to work. After their meeting was over, Maan realized that Muskan was sleeping. He carried her to his chamber and made her sleep on the couch. he had other work to finish and sat finishing them.

He spoke to his clients and other employees, regarding their present and future ventures. Every now and then he kept looking at Muskan to make sure, she was doing okay. He was worried she might roll of the couch in her sleep. after all his meetings and phone calls, he looked at her and remembered what she had said, "sab ko ghar se bahar kar do!"

He smiled at her innocence and thought, "she's so pampered. Agar isse kuch chahiye tuo chahiye, bilkul meri tarah! " he walked upto her and sat beside her, moving away her hair from her face and kissing her forehead. He saw her clenching onto the teddy harder in her sleep and smiled again. He then carried her to the car and drove home. Once he had reached home and made her sleep on her bed, she woke up.

"Papa, pehle sab ko daanto. Mujhe pareshaan kiya!" she said, standing up on the bed and jumping into his arms. He kissed her shoulder and hands and said, "chalo, lets get you justice!"

They walked downstairs and saw everyone in the dining room, having tea. He spoke as soon as he walked in, "Kaun hai, jo meri laadli ko pareshaan kiya?abhi tum sab ko ghar se bahar karunga".

Muskan looked at Vicky and smiled mischievously. Vicky made a funny face at her and said, "Muskan tu itti dar pok kab se ban gayi?Maine tumhe pareshaan kiya aur tu papa ke paas bhaag ke gayi, rote rote , ki "Papa, dekho, chachu pareshaan kar raha hai".

Maan suppressed a laugh and Muskan got down and walked upto Vicky. She got onto the chair beside him and said, "Main Muskan Maan Khurana hoon, maine darna nahi seekhi!" Her father looked at her with pride, while Daadi and Kia exchanged smiles.

Muskan turned to her dad and said, "Dad, inhe kahin mat jaane dena. Main dekhungi, ki kaun mujhe pareshaan karega!"

Saying so, she walked out of the dining room and went ot her bedroom to play with her toys. Maan joined the others for tea. Maan walked back into his room and stood in the balcony for sometime. he could see, Muskan doing some coloring as her bedroom's balcony doors were open. He smiled and went into her room. He was in no particular mood to work so sat reading some magazines, while she continued coloring.

Two days passed and Geet got a call from Aditya confirming her contract with the B'lore firm as a full time CA for 2 years and also for the Delhi firm as a part time CA. She was told to come to Delhi to visit the office, and if satisfied she can sign the contract and start work right away.

Geet agreed to fly to Delhi and Jenny went along with her. Her flight landed in Delhi and they took a cab to The Taj, where rooms were booked for them. As she travelled through the roads of Delhi, her memories came flooding back. These were the same roads she had travelled with Maan, a lot of times for various reasons. She passed the restaurants, they've had numerous lunches and dinners in. her eyes got teary but she held her tears back. She felt weak in her knees. She wanted to see him once, she wanted to see her baby once. The last time she had seen Muskan was when she was 6 months old. This city made her feel vulnerable than before. She remembered the first time, she had come to Delhi in search of a job and now, after 6 years she was back again, all alone, like the very first time. But that time, she had come to support her baby, fight for justice. This time, all she wanted was one chance to see the man, she loves more than anything in the universe. What would she not give today, to just see him once, even from a distance.

They checked in and went to their respective rooms. Geet took a shower and sat on the bed, in her bath robe. She should not have come back to Delhi, she thought. Jenny called her, on the hotel phone and Geet was in no mood to answer it. Geet ignored it. She did not feel like going anywhere, she wanted to go to Khurana Mansion and get a glimpse of all the people she had left behind. The phone kept ringing continuosly and after a while the door bell rang. Geet got frustrated. She wiped her tears and straightened up. She quickly changed and went to open the door to find Jenny there.

"Geet, kya kar rahi thi?itni der ho gayi. Chalo we have to go for lunch with Aditya. He must be waiting for us", she said, looking anxious.

"Main shower mein thi. Chalo!", she said, grabbing her iphone, and her hand bag. Both of them made their way to the restaurant and found Aditya waiting for them. They joined him and ordered food. Geet was not in a mood to talk, so she just listened to Jenny and Aditya speak. Her eyes constantly wandered around the place, as though hoping that she could get a glimpse of Maan. She wondered if he had any business meeting or lunch meetings, in the same hotel.

She joined her hands under the table and prayed to herself, "Babaji, please, ek baar main unhe dekh loon. Unhe yeh hotel bahut pasand hai, business meetings ke liye. Please Babaji, mujhe aur kuch nahi chahiye".

Aditya noticed geet's restlessness and asked her, "Geet, koi problem? Aap bahut disturbed lag rahe hai!"

"No, I'm just feeling a little tired!" she said, smiling faintly.

They continued to eat and Geet excused herself to go to the restroom. She walked slowly and went in to restroom. She stood near the wash basin and looked at herself in the mirror. she splashed some water onto her face and looked up again. She was taken aback at what she saw. Maan was standing behind her, smiling. She turned to go to him and did not find him. she looked around and realized she was hallucinating.

She splashed more water on her face, "Bahut ho gaya!" she said, angrily, "Unhe tuo meri parva bhi nahi hai. aur main har jagah, bas unhe dekhti hoon!Bas Geet, ek aur baar tum try karoge. Agar unhone phone utaya tuo utaya warna Maan Khurana will be history to me".

She pulled her phone out from her hand-bag and called his number again, but as usual did not get any answer. She slammed her hand against the wall nearby, "That's it, Maan Khurana. I'm not trying to call you anymore. Ab aap khud chal kar mere saamne aayenge ".

She wiped her face and walked out of the restroom. She was about to walk back, when a small girl, fell down in front of her. Geet, quickly picked up that girl and saw a few gaurds running towards them.

"thanks Ma'am!" they told Geet and told the girl, "aapko ghar jaana chahiye. Sab intezaar kar rahe hai".

"No, I'm not done yet!", said the girl, "aap sab mujhe pareshaan mat karo".

Geet, who was about to walk away, stopped to look at the girl, surprised. She was so young and she spoke with such arrogance. she told her, "beta, bado se aise baat nahi karte. Agar sab aapke wait kar rahe hai, ghar pe, aapko jana chahiye. Yahan tuo aap kabhi bhi aa sakte hai!"

The girl looked at her and walked away saying, "Main ajnabi se baat nahi karti". The guards followed the small girl. After a few seconds, she heard the girl apologize to the guards and tell them to take her home.

Geet thought, "ameer baap ki pampered beti hogi!" and walked away to meet up with Jenny and Aditya, who had finished their lunch.

"what took you so long?" asked Jenny. Geet narrated the incident of the small girl and Aditya responded, "oh, we were wondering if you were alright or not!"

Geet smiled and said, "I'm fine. Feeling better now. When shall we visit the Delhi office? So that I can look into the financial details and since Jenny is here, we would need like half a day!"

"well, we can go right now! And finish it, so that tomorrow, you can start working, if you are happy with everything", suggested Aditya.

Jenny and Geet agreed and all of them went to the office. She walked in and found huge red board in golden letters, "MMG Technologies". She took the elevator and walked into the office. She was required to flash her ID and she did it.

The ID was screened. Jenny and aditya did the same. They walked in and geet and jenny got to work right away. She was pretty happy with the records maintained and asked who their CA was. Aditya told Geet the name, but Geet did not bother to listen to it properly. She was too busy, appreciating the work and the effort that had gone into maintaining such financial records. Geet was extremely satisfied with the financial details and decided to sign the contract the next day itself.

Aditya smiled happily and said, "Sure Ma'am. Tomorrow, we're going to have a board of directors meeting as well. so we can club both the events. I'm sure they would be happy to have you on board".

He walked them out to the car and told them, "I will not be here tomorrow, have to get back to B'lore. But as soon as you come, please call Mrs. Sharma. She is the Assistant Managing Director here and she will guide you through everything".

Geet and Jenny agreed and went back to the hotel. Later, in the evening they went to do some shopping and GEEt got herself some saris and so did Jenny. They got back to the room pretty late and geet was very tired. But she did not feel like sleeping. She called the reception and asked them if her car was still there. They checked up and called her and told her car was present in the parking. She told them to keep it ready. She changed into a kurta-pyjama and ran down to the reception. She drove to Khurana Mansion and stopped outside the gate.

Maan had kissed Muskan. He looked at her lovingly for sometime and ran his hands through her hair. He kissed her again and walked into the balcony, unable to sleep. he stood there and looked around for sometime. Suddenly, he looked at the big iron gates of the mansion and found a car parked there. he could see a person standing there, but because of the darkness could not see the person's face. "Geet!" was the first name that came to his mind. He looked as hard as his eyes could allow him to, but still could not.

She knelt against her car and stared at the mansion. she had tears in her eyes. She wanted to go in and meet maan and muskan. But she did not. She wanted maan to take her back home. She stood there, looking at the mansion for an undeifinite period of time, until her legs and eyes got weak. She then drove back slowly to the hotel and went to bed at 5am.

Maan, too, did not know how long he stood in the balcony. But he knew, there was someone at the gate. He wondered who it would be. Though his heart kept telling him, that it was geet, his mind kept telling him logic, "how can geet come here?" After seeing the car drive away, he too, went back to his bedroom and fell lazily on the bed. He kept turning the bed side lamp on and off and finally sat up on bed again.

He pulled out his diary and wrote,

A red color car parked in front of Khurana Mansion. Why do I feel, geet was here?

So close yet so far!!!

Maintaining diaries had become a part of his life ever since Muskan came into his life. He had written every single incident connected to Muskan and him, every single incident between the three of them , every single thing that he would have told to geet, if she was with him. He turned a few pages and found another entry.

I've seen lot of successes. But nothing gave me immense happiness. No happiness in the universe could have matched the happiness of kissing my newly born daughter, the happiness of taking her into my arms, the happiness of being the first one, to kiss her tender hands and feet, the happiness of kissing her gentle tears away.

Thank you Geet, you are the one , who made this possible!!!!! I will love you both, till the end of the universe and even beyond'!!!!!!!!

He re-read the last line again, "love you both till the end of the universe and even beyond'..!!!!!" he smiled and laid back on the pillow. He smiled at the irony in his life. People in his house thought that he no longer loved geet. but they were all wrong. How could he stop loving her? He loved her for her innocence at first, later he loved her for her stupidity and her mistakes, much later he loved her for her love, then came passion and desire. He loved for every single thing and her every single role- secretary, lover cum girl-friend, wife, mother to his cute little daughter. But one thing he did not love her for- was the fact that she did not trust him. Everything fell short, in their relationship, and changed it forever because of this small word, TRUST! He closed the diary and his eyes, he realized he was thinking too much.

The next day Geet woke up, with the ringing of her phone. She answered the call, sleepily and Jenny, yelled at her, "geet, you're still sleeping?Its 9am. We are supposed to go to office by 9:30am. It will take us half hour just to get to the office. when will you get ready?"

Geet jumped up in bed. She looked at her watch and quickly got out of bed. "Jenny, tum jao aur situation ko sambhal lo. Main jaldi aa jaungi". Geet ran around the room, for the next fifteen minutes and finally made it to office at 10:15 am. She cursed her luck, "hey babaji, pehle din hi late ho gayi. Kya hoga?kahin contract cancel na karde".

She ran into the office and told her details to the receptionist and the latter told her where to go. Geet grabbed her files, phone and her hand bag and went rushing to the conference room. she knocked once and barged in, walking to the other side of the table. She did not notice anyone sitting there. she settled her files in her hand properly, saying, "I'm really very sorry, everyone. I can assure you, nothing' ," and looked up. She was dumbstruck to see everyone staring at her and one lady got up and introduced herself, "Hello, I am Mrs. Sasha Kapil Sharma, Assistant Managing Director of this company".

Geet's jaw dropped as her eyes scanned the people across the room. Her eyes finally stopped at a pair of brown eyes, that looked at her with deep animosity and pain. Geet fell into the chair behind her, shocked. She did not know whether to cry or laugh at her luck. Jenny pinched her under the table and whispered, "Geet muh bandh karo and come back to your senses".

Geet snapped out and got up from her chair. She held her hand out to Sasha and said, "Good Morning, Mrs. Sharma. I am really sorry for being so late. I can assure you nothing of this kind will happen in the future".

"No problem. Would you like to introduce your self to the other people in this room?" she asked, smiling and shaking her hand with Geet. Geet nodded her head and turned to face the rest. She looked at the pair of brown eyes, looking at her and said, "Hello everyone, I am Geet M. Khurana. I am here to work as part time CA for this company. Really sorry for keeping you waiting!"

The rest of them shook their heads, gesturing it was okay but the man opposite to her, had a stern look on his face. geet could feel the anger and the pain in his eyes. She looked away unable to take it. Sasha introduced the rest of the board of directors and a few employees to geet and Jenny. Geet was happy , that all of them were new to the place. She thanked her babaji, for not having any old board of directors or employees, otherwise they would know that geet had already worked for the man, with the stern look on his face.

Geet got back to her chair and one of the directors told her, "you know what the coincidence is?even the last name, of the MD of this company is Khurana!" he turned to look at him and said, "Geet Khurana, please meet the Md of this company, Maan Singh Khurana".

Geet thought to herself, "hmmm, yeh le, I got my last name because of this man!And here people are introducing my husband to me."

Geet got up and walked to the other side of the table. She held out her hand and said, "Hello Mr. Maan Khurana, nice to meet you!"

Maan did not react. He very lightly touched her hand, in the form of a handshake and looked away from her, releasing her hand, immediately. He turned to Sasha and said, "I don't have the whole day to do this! Can you please hurry?"

Sasha nodded and passed the contract papers to Jenny. Geet continued to look at him, hoping he would look at her, atleast once. But he didn't. She withdrew her hand and walked back to her chair grumbling, "itne saal ke baad bhi itna attitude. Main bhi dekhti hoon, kab tak mujhe ignore karenge".

Geet signed the contract and so did Maan. He walked out of the office immediately and so did the rest of the directors. Sasha's secretary showed geet and Jenny their chambers and both of them sat there for sometime.

"Yaar, the day began so badly", cribbed geet, sitting on the couch in her chamber.

"I know, geet. you have no idea, how angry Maan Khurana was", said Jenny, drinking a glass of water.

"did he say anything about me?", geet asked excitedly.

"No, he did not even know your name. But he was angry that you were late".

"whatever!" said geet, thinking to herself, "so, it was a surprise for him, too! Haan, I wonder what he'll cook up, now, to kick me out of here!"

Maan, on the other hand, was in the conference room, in the floor above the floor geet was in. he threw all the files away and Sasha moved away in fear.

"tumhein pata tha, ki geet hi who CA thi. Phir bhi tu ne use yahan contract sign karne ke liye bulaya?" screamed maan at Sasha.

"No, MK! I did not meet her before. It was Aditya who met her. And he told me that Geet Khurana would be joining. So, I thought it was someone else. Because the Geet, I know is Geet Handa. Ab who Geet Khurana, mera matlab hai, Geet M. Khurana kab bani, I don't know!"

Maan glared at Sasha as geet's voice saying, "Geet M. Khurana" echoed in his ears. He screamed at Sasha, "Look, I want her out of this office, in the next 12 hours. I don't know what and how, that is happeneing. She will not work here, not part time, not full time or not anytime!Is that clear?" asked Maan, angrily.

"No!" said Sasha. "MK, the contract is signed. And we have to abide it. You should have raised this before signing the contract, MK, not now! She will have to keep coming to this office once in every month, for two years".

"You did not give me time, Sasha. you planned it all so well, because you knew I would not raise or encourage any arguments in front of the directors".

"MK, can we get over this, please? You hardly come to this office, so why are you so worried? Geet is not going to step into the office you sit in, so please relax. I'm the one, who has to deal with her , on a regular basis".

"Why am I worried, Sasha? you want to know why? I do not want her anywhere around me! SO, now get her out of here".

"MK, a contract once signed is signed. Nothing can change it", said Sasha calmly.

"I am ready to break the contract, Mrs. Sharma", came Geet's voice. Both Maan and Sasha turned to look at her. Geet walked in, closing the door behind her.

"That's what you wanted right?" she asked, turning to maan. Maan looked away , with his eyes red in anger. She looked at Sasha, "I will break the contract, right now!" she said, taking the contract papers in her hand, she continued, "I do not wish to work in a place where people mix their personal and professional lives".

Alright there have been mixed feeling about the present track...!!! I appreciate all of you, for expressing your feelings freely. But majority of you have liked the twist in the story.

All I can ask for, is a little bit of patience. It is not possible to have only happiness and romance in life. I've always believed in maintaining a realistic touch to my story line, so this track is realistic too. Maan and Geet have had times of happiness, love and romance. Just because they have not been together for 6 years, does not mean, they will hate each other. It';s just a matter of time. Once they come face to face (which they did), you will have to wait for some fireworks.

Despite, the separation, you will see that their love for one another has not reduced even an inch.

I did reply to all of your posts on pages 113 and 114.I did try to answer most of your queries.
