Part 17
Anurag rushes to Heer, and picks her up in his arms, carrying her outside the operation theatres and putting her on the chairs outside the operation theatre. A few minutes later, Anurag sprinkles water on his daughter's face, while Prerna hugs Heer, worried for her. As the wardboys come out, pushing Raj's body on the stretcher, everyone looks on in sadness.
When Anurag turns back to see Heer's reaction on seeing Raj's body like that, he is shocked to see no reaction on her face at all.
"Heer'! Heer beti...!" Anurag taps her face, trying to get her to react.
An anxious Prerna tries the same, but to no avail. Nearby, a young Manish is crying badly, "Raj bhaiya toh mar gaye. Heer didi usse bohot pyar karti hai. Toh who ro kyun nahin rahi hai? Kya hua hai meri Heer didi ko?". Nupur, Meher, and Kripa console him.
While Prerna continues to hug her daughter, Anurag gets up and calls the doctor. When the doctor finishes checking her up, he declares that Heer is in deep shock. Upon seeing Raj die in front of her eyes, Heer just went into shock. Heer might take some time in getting over the shock; but it's very important to get her out from the shock and it can't take too long either, because Heer suffers from high blood pressure, and if she stays in that condition for too long, it can affect her health seriously too.
It is already morning the next day by the time the autopsy on Raj's body is done, and his body is ready to be taken home for the funeral. While Raj's body is taken back to Heer's home in the ambulance with Anurag watching over it, Prerna manages to compose herself, and drive her son and daughter home, with her daughter's friends. While Nupur hugs Heer, both seated in the back seat, Kripa is making calls from her handphone to the pandit and all to arrange for Raj's funeral. Just as they reach back to Heer's house, Kripa finishes making all the arrangements and hangs up the phone.
But after stepping into the house, Kripa's mobile rings again. "Angad calling'" it says on the screen.
"Hello!" Kripa says, sniffing.
"Kripa, tum theek toh ho na? Maine tumhein kitni baar call karne ki koshish ki thi. Pehle toh tumne phone uthaya hi nahin, aur phir uske baar phone engaged hi aane laga. Aur tumhari aawaz kuch theek nahin lagti. Kya hua? Ro rahi thi?" asks a worried Angad.
"Haan."
"Kyon? Kya hua? Main abhi tumhare paas aata hoon. Kahaan ho tum? Aur waise, itni der ke liye kahan thi? Mandir mein?"
"Nahin. City Hospital mein."
"What! Tum theek toh ho na? Tumhein kuch nahin hua na'"
"Nahin main theek hoon Angad. Lekin Raj'" Kripa starts but is unable to continue, and breaks down crying as Raj died, her best friend's to-be-husband just died few days before their wedding.
"Kya hua Raj ko? Kripa, ro mat. Mujhe saari baat theek se bataao."
And Kripa tells him everything, right from Raj's accident to his death, and Heer's supposed shock.
"Theek hai. Hum Heer ke ghar kuch hi der mein pahunch jaayenge"
"Hum?" asks Kripa.
"Haan. Main, Prem aur Mayank. Main ab unhi ke ghar pe hoon. Ab Heer ko sadme se nikaalne mein Prem hi kuch maddad kar sakta hai."
"Theek hai. Bye Angad."
"Bye Kripa. Apna aur khaas kar Heer ka bhi khayal rakhna."
Angad hangs up the phone and gives the sad news to Mayank and Prem. They all get ready to go, while Prem leaves a key under the door mat outside the main door, and a note somewhere visible, for his parents and other brother, stating that whey he and Mayank have gone with Angad. [Shashank had gone on a business trip, and taken Padma along too. On the other hand, Preet was studying in another city. Both his parents and Preet as well, were due to return that day, around the same time.] Although he is not yet ready to face Heer again, Prem decides to go to console her.
******************************
As the pandit chants out the last rites for Raj, before Anurag and some other men carry Raj's body somewhere to cremate on the funeral pyre, everyone is sitting down all in white, around the body, with Raj's picture kept on a table near his head.
The bell rings, and Kripa gets up to open it. In enter Mayank and Angad. Everyone's heads turn to see who has arrived. Prem then enters, last. At first, his face and part body is hidden in the shadows, but Heer is able to feel something.
"Mera Raj vaapis aa gaya" Heer thinks, and she gets up and runs to hug Prem, seemingly having recovered from the shock. After the hug, Heer steps back, while Prem takes a step forward into the light. Heer looks up, and sees that it is not Raj who she just hugged.
"Nahin! Tum mere Raj nahin ho! Mere Raj nahin ho!" Heer cries and shouts at the same time. Then she turns her back to Prem, and sees Raj's dead body lying there, getting ready to be lifted by Anurag and some men, to the funeral pyre prepared somewhere nearby.
Seeing Raj's body being carried away, Heer starts crying harder. Infact, she becomes almost hysterical.
"Mere Raj ko mujhse door mat le jaao. Who mar nahin gaya, sirf so gaya hai. Neeche rakho use. Main abhi use jagaati hoon. Mere saath koi mazaak kar raha hai who. Dekhna, jad woh uth jaayega, toh main usse bohot gussa karoongi, kyunki usne mere saath aisa mazaak karne ki himmat ki." Heer cries out, in denial of Raj's death.
"Heer, meri baat suno! Heer! Raj mar chukka hai! Woh ab kabhi bhi vaapis nahin aayega." Prem shouts at her in anguish, unable to see her like that.
"Nahin. Tum jhoot bol rahe ho Prem. Sab yahaan jhoot bol rahe hain. Mera Raj abhi tak zinda hai." Heer continues, still unwanting to believe Prem, or anyone else.
"Heer!" shouts Prem. Unable to see her like that any longer, Prem goes to Heer to hug her. But when she pushes him away, and starts to get violent, Prem gives Heer one tight slap, though he does regret it somewhat. But that slap does get Heer back to earth. Heer realizes that Raj has really gone away forever. He is dead, and can never come back. Once this truth hits her, Heer breaks down completely, crying very hard and hugging Prem at the same time.
Having lesser energy after some time, Heer slips to the floor, still crying, and hugs Prem's legs instead. Prem loosens Heer's grip on his legs, and bends down to level with Heer's face. He takes her face in his hands, and wipes away her tears. Heer looks at Prem in sadness, and hugs him even more tightly this time. The rest of Heer's family members and friends look on in sadness, but content that Heer is now ok, and will be able to get better soon, with the help of Prem.
