Part 5

He went to Adi's office and on Adi seeing Maan all smug inquired what was going on.

Adi- "Maan, what is on your mind?, why do you have this crooked smile on your face?, the only time I remember you smiling like this was when you bothered Geet to see her reaction, why does it look like you have something sinister going on in that head of yours?"

Maan- " You are right, you are so right, I am up to no good, and if Geet found out what I was planning she would surely be upset, but I can't help myself I have to.."

Adi- "Maan just tell me what you have to do, that is what you are planning to do.... I don't have the time or the brain cells to decipher your riddles."

Maan- "I am going to Harvard the day Geeta has to check in. I am going to get to see both of them and in a way be with them during the whole process."

Seeing Adi's confused look, Maan said "Mr. Mehra knowing that I attended Harvard asked for my help to get his grandson settled at Harvard, how could I refuse him, him being a good family friend and important client?", he smirked

Adi finally understanding Maan's devious plan smiled ear to ear. And asked if he could join him for "this" business trip. Maan agreed, now they just had to convince Pinky, which was going to be difficult. The three of them had to be there on Geeta's big day, after all these years of celebrating from afar they couldn't stay away.

They came up with a plan, they decided that Pinky had to be kept in the dark, just in case she spilled the details to Geet during one of their conversations. It would ruin the whole plan. As the saying goes, 'jab ghee seedhi ungle say na nikle tau ungle teadi karni padti hain'.

Adi called Pinky. On Pinky answering the phone Adi said,"Pinky, Maan and I have to go on a two week business trip in September and I just wanted to let you know."

Pinky- "Two whole weeks, what kind of business trip is this, just because Jiju has nothing better to do, doesn't mean that you don't too. You have a family, he can't just make you work like a mule. I want to talk to him. Put me through to him." she said angrily still cursing under her breath.

Maan picks up the other phone after a few seconds, "Hello"

Pinky- "What hello, first you want my husband to work like a mule and then you have the audacity to say hello, how can you expect him to go on a two week business trip?"

Maan smiled, Pinky still hadn't lost her child like innocence, the way she talked no one would have guessed she was in her late 30s. He could have sworn even as she was yelling at him he could hear her eating. He controlled his laughter and continued with the conversation.

Maan- "Look Pinky, it is an important client, it could cost us millions if we don't play this right and as they say in the business always make sure the client is happy. That is why I need Adi with me. However, hearing how upset you are may I suggest something?" he waited hoping she would take the bait.

Pinky- "OK, I am listening."

Maan- "You see we need to go to Boston and since NYC is not that far from Boston maybe you can visit Geet. You haven't seen Geet in so long why don't you call her and ask her if you can come over. And Adi will join you as soon as we are done in Boston, how does my suggestion sound?"

Pinky's mood changed drastically on hearing what Maan had to say, "Oh! Jiju, tussi great ho. It is a wonderful suggestion. Business ka businness, aur holiday ka holiday ho jayega. Just like that saying, two birds with one stone, right? I will call Geet and make arrangements. " she said.

Even before Maan could say anything she said "Bye" and hung up.

Maan turned to Adi with a huge smile and said, "she took the bait"

Maan and Adi discussed how they would blame the client for Adi not being able to make it NYC and because of that he would meet up with Pinky at Harvard instead. Maan was sure Geet would have Pinky accompany her when she dropped Geeta off for her first semester at Harvard. Thus Maan would be able to follow Adi and watch Geet and Geeta from afar.

Adi then said, " now that we have succeeded in getting my wife to do what we want, we just have to make sure that Mr. Mehra's son is settled in before Geet comes to drop Geeta off so that you are free. I feel so terrible keeping Pinky in the dark "

Maan said "don't feel bad about keeping pinky in the dark, you know how the two of them are once they start talking they don't stop and Pinky could spill the beans by mistake. We can't take that chance. Also having Mr. Mehra's grandson settled in before Geet come with Geeta shouldn't be a problem, I will just convince Mr. Mehra's son to drop of his son in the morning. I will tell him that it was required of all international students to be dropped off in the morning so that they could explore the campus and town before all the other students."

Having made their plan, they attended a few meetings, approved a few designs and looked at some potential projects that they would be interested in taking on.

Yeah Maan is using some of the many tricks in his bag to see Geet and Geeta. Of course he doesn't want to come face to face with them, that is why he is taking the long route. This is the new Maan, the old Maan from 18 years ago would have just showed up and walked right up to them. However, he respects Geet enough to not do that. Lets see what happens next.

Part 6

Pinky was all excited about seeing Geet and called her, she didn't even care to see what time it was in NYC before she called.

Geet had finally fallen asleep after a long day of excitement. Geeta had graduated and she had finally accepted the bitter truth that come September her baby would be out of the house in a different city away from her. She had berated herself for not adamantly suggesting to Geeta that she attend a University in NYC. There were plenty of great universities right here, why did she have to go to Boston. She could have had just as good an education at NYU or Columbia. Geet could have had her baby under her wings if she was going to a university here in the city. She then had reminded herself that she had to let Geeta go, to let her find her own way in the world. She was a grown up now and unlike Geet (at her age) she had a great support system. No one was going to get her married off or try to kill her for something that wasn't her fault.

She was awaken by the loud ringing of the house phone, she looked at the alarm clock on her bedside table, it was 1:30am. Who could be calling at this time of the night? She then came to her senses and panicked the only time someone called at this hour was in case of emergencies. She looked up to the skies and said"Babaji please sub kuch theek ho." She picked up the receiver and heard Pinky shrieking with joy only for Geet to interpret them as shrieks of pain. She got scared and asked "is everything okay, are you okay, is he okay, has something happened to him?"

Pinky realizing what had happened, apologized and calmed herself down. She also noticed what time it was and told Geet that everything was fine, everyone was okay and that she would call her later.

Geet stopped Pinky from hanging up since she probably wouldn't be able to sleep anyways now that she had woken up.

They started to talk, Geet told her everything that had happened since they last spoke. About Geeta's graduation ceremony and about work and about all the shopping they had been doing so that Geeta would be comfortable in the dorms at Harvard.

She talked about her concerns about Geeta being away from her for the first time and also how she too would be alone once Geeta was at university. She had always lived with someone. In Hoshiarpur, it was her family, in Delhi it was Pinky and her dad and eventually Maan and then after that she had Geeta. What was she going to do?

Pinky seeing an entry point suggested that she come and visit Geet and stay with her for a few days to keep her company when Geeta went to university. She mentioned that she was thinking of coming to NYC during the first week of September since Adi was going to Boston and that they had planned for Adi to meet her once he was done with business in Boston.

Pinky seemed like an answer from God and Geet said Pinky could come over as planned and it would be nice to have her accompany her to drop Geeta off since her university started the first week of September. She knew it was going to be difficult to let go of her baby and having Pinky there would give her strength. Kate and Devi were coming too but as they say the more the better and she was sure she needed all the help she could get in letting go of Geeta.

She was also happy that at last she would be able to introduce her best friends to each other. As Kate and Devi would have said,"Oh, ya Pinky, we know her like we know Geet, the only problem is we have never seen her" Now they would finally see her and realize that she wasn't a fragment of Geet's imagination.

They finished talking and once they were done, Geet noticed that it was 3:00am. She went back to bed and hoped sleep would come fast since tomorrow was another busy day at work.

Pinky called Adi and told him that she had spoken to Geet and Geet was glad that she was coming cause she could help with getting everything for Geeta's first semester at university ready. She also told him that she was going to accompany Geet to Harvard to drop off Geeta. She sounded so excited, Adi smiled, if only she knew that Maan Singh Khurana knew all along what was going to happen and he had been pulling the strings like a puppet-master. He was very happy though, it had been a long time since he had seen Maan smile like that.

The plan was in motion and now they just had to wait for Geet and Geeta to make their way to Harvard. Maan looked up at the sky and said"Thank you Babaji" for the having Mr. Mehra call him and indirectly giving him this great opportunity to see his daughter on her first day of university.

I am really tired, now. Time to sleep. Can't believe I posted 6 really long parts in 2 days. I hope you enjoy what has been written so far. Please leave comments as your opinions matter.

4b: Lmfao .. Pinky told Maan he was working Adi like a mule! 🤣 and Maan thought Pinky was eating while talking with him! 🤣 and it's a good thing they didn't tell Pinky, because she so would spill the beans 😆 😳

4c: Aww Devi n Kate are like the best friends ever! I loved this line: "Oh, ya pinky, we know her like we know geet, the only problem is we've never seen her" ... shows who true friends are. 😛

Wow .. that was like an essay! 😆 Cant wait for the next update babiiee!! 😉

ha ha mere pass mera apna Maan hain, muje sapne dekhne ki koi zaroorat nahi hain. 😆

Am glad you liked all the parts. I wanted to add a little comedy after the really emotional parts earlier in the FF. 😭

Pinky can bring comedy where ever she goes and in what ever she does. I needed to show also how much Maan had changed and how he had developed strong friendships with Adi and Pinky. They are his family.

I hope I was able to bring that across.
