Nikki went out with Thomas that night but when they reached the restaurant, they were amazed to see Sid and the rest of the gang there too.
Sid had overheard Thomas making reservations for Nikki and his date and that had given him the bright idea of keeping an eye on his bhabhi without having to extract information from either. He had begged James and Jessica to join him but since it was a little expensive place, he had told them that he would cover the expenses as he was craving to eat at that place.
Sid waved to Nikki and Thomas and saw relief wash over Nikki's features while Thomas looked put out.
"Hey guys……fancy seeing you both here?" Sid acts surprised and Nikki looks at Thomas who mumbles an inaudible excuse which Sid waves away, asking them to join their table. Before Nikki or Thomas can react, Sid calls the passing by server and asks him for an extra chair.
"Nikki….you sit….Thomas can be the gentleman" Sid dimples and Nikki returns his smile but doesn't look at Thomas, who she was sure wouldn't be too happy with the idea.
"Well we both just decided" Thomas starts when Nikki pats his hand gently.
"Oh this will be so much more fun……all of us together" she says and Thomas nods and takes the seat next to her. He did understand that she was a little uncomfortable, so he smartly doesn't decide to push.
"How is your daughter Thomas?" Jessica asks licking the beer foam from her lips.
"Fine…..enjoying her summer vacation in Florida" he replies and Nikki's eyes shoot towards him and Sid smiles with satisfaction.
"Y…You have a daughter?" she asks surprised.
"Yeah ….5 years old…..Lara….here you see" he fishes out his wallet and shows her the picture of a cherub faced blue eyed and blond girl, who was smiling happily at the camera.
"You are married?" Nikki shoots her next question and Sid almost chokes on his drink. It was working better than he had ever thought it would. He knew how Indians were about kids and marriage…..they did not understand American ways and Nikki was too new here to know how this society worked.
"Oh No……I am not married…..probably never will" he smiled at her and Nikki looks at Sid and sees amusement in his eyes and looks away, unable to digest what she had heard.
"Let's order guys" James butts in and the evening passes in a lot of discussions and more personal detail about each other.
"Picture time" Sid announces, anxious to post some more of Nikki's pictures on facebook to bother his brother, who was hot footing home anyways.
"Nikita…..stand next to Thomas" he says and Thomas gladly takes the opportunity to stand next to her, placing his arm on her shoulder, "James….you on the other side" evil Sid continues and clicks a picture in which Nikki is looking at Thomas who had pulled her a little too close for comfort. To anyone else it would look like Nikki was looking adoringly at Thomas. The party gets over and Thomas offers to drop Nikki home.
"Errr….Thomas…..umm….Mom wanted to talk to Nikita…..so I will drop her home" he says and everyone says their goodbyes when Nikki turns to Sid.
"What are you doing?" she asks, her eyebrow raised and her foot tapping.
"Excuse me?" Sid asks a picture of innocence.
"You sabotaged my date" she accuses and Sid laughs heartily.
"Sabotaged? You wanted to go out with Thomas? Really Nikki……then why did you sit with us…….he didn't want to?" Sid confronts her and she turns away.
"Oh whatever" she storms off and Sid follows.
"I like you Nikki….I don't know who you are fighting…..but am on your side" he says softly and she looks at him surprised.
"What?" she asks confused.
"I know there is someone you like…..someone you were trying to call but didn't when I called you…..figure stuff out Nikita……don't jump into something you might regret" he tells her and Nikki looks at him, her eyes widening.
"How?" she asks.
"It isn't too difficult…..you get lost in his thoughts in the middle of conversation" Sid shrugs and Nikki blushes. She was still worried about Abhi….even after his very rude assurance that she didn't have to worry about him.
"He isn't well" she confesses softly and Sid's eyebrows shoot skywards. Bro wasn't well? That was news to him…..so that was what was bothering her. He felt like strangling his brother for the first time in his life but then he stopped short…..he understood why Abhimanyu was doing this. He obviously hadn't told Nikki that he was coming……oh he was smart.
"I am sorry…..but he will get well soon Nikita…..don't worry" he pats her gently and Nikki nods.
"I guess" she says and gives him a wan smile.
"Cheer up Nikita……let me drop you home" he says.
"You said your Mom" she asks when he winks at her.
"I lied" and they both laugh and he drops her home.
"This is for you bro…….for lying to bhabhi" Sid mutters and posts Nikki and Thomas's picture on facebook.
"What the hell Sid?" within ten minutes Abhi calls him back.
"What bro?" he asks innocently.
"Why are you sending me Nikki….I mean Dr. Nikita's pictures….on my work email?" he asks.
"Oh shoot……my bad bro……I actually was sending them to Mom…..and the rest of the group…..sorry bro….delete it" he makes up and excuse and Abhi rolls his eyes. He just wished he could strangle his brother, who obviously had guessed about Nikita and himself, after he had chatted to him one night and told her to take care of her once too much.
Good…next time don't bother me…..and am reaching on 3rd…..you better be there" he snaps and disconnects.
The days pass a little too busy for everyone and Sid tells everyone that on 4th they were all welcome to come as and when they wished. Thomas offered to take Nikki and she agrees.
Abhimanyu lands after 9 months to Chicago and feels elated to be back home….more than that, he couldn't wait to lay his eyes on Nikki…..who he had missed terribly.
"Hey Bro" Sid greets his elder sibling with a bear hug and receives one in return. "Welcome home bhai" he whispers and Abhi smiles.
"You drove my car?" Abhi screams at Sid when he sees his red Audi sports car pull in with Sid behind the wheel.
"Yep……mom let me……I love this bhai" he smirks and Abhi asks him to get out immediately.
"You are behaving as this is your girl bhai" Sid pouts.
"Good……now stay away from my car….and my girl" he snaps back.
"Your girl?" Sid asks.
"Yeah……Nikita" Abhi finally confesses to what Sid had known all along.
"Really now…..let her choose bhai" he winks and receives a punch in his stomach.
"Ok….fine……I get you" Sid raises his hands and both the brothers go home, Sid chattering all the way….while Abhi is enjoying the feel of being home.
"Nooooooooo" Nikki screams as the guys pull her in the pool and that is the voice Abhi wakes up to and looks around and sees it is 11:30 am. He had slept late as he was jetlagged and he could hear noises coming from below his window, which was accidentally above the pool. That meant, his brother's 4th of July party was in full swing. He stretched lazily and got up and looked down through the window.
There were a lot of people around the pool, the barbecue was burning too and he could hear music in the background. This was home. He looked to see Nikki's head bob up and the guys laughing.
Nikki….his Nikki….in his home…..he never thought that it would ever happen. He stood there staring at her and then walked away slowly to freshen up. It was time to say Hi to the girl who had given him sleepless nights. Now it was his turn to return the favor, which he had cleverly worked out with Sid.
"Do Not….I repeat….do not dunk me again" Nikki tells the guys wagging a finger at them, who were playing tag and whosoever dropped the ball would be dunked in the pool.
"Well you need to catch the ball Nikita" Thomas smiled and threw another catch at her. Again she missed but before anyone could catch her to dunk her again, she swam out of their reach and climbed out of the pool.
"Spoilsport" Sid yelled and Nikki stuck out her tongue at him, bursting into peals of laughter. She took a towel lying near the pool and blotted her hair dry. It was a beautiful sunny day and she was actually having a lot of fun and smiling genuinely for the first time since she had arrived from India. He eyes were twinkling with laughter and her skin was glowing due to the sun and happiness, which for some reaon was urging in her heart today. She loved water and it was fun playing with the guys but now she was ready to lay by the pool and soak up some sun.
"Sid…..I need help" Nikki yelled at Sid who came to one side of the pool and asked her what she wanted.
"I need to change……so where is the bathroom I can use?" She asked him.
"Why do you need to change?" Sid inquired.
"As I am done with swimming and don't keep asking questions ok…..tell me" she tapped her foot impatiently and a wicked gleam entered Sid's eyes. This was going to be fun. He told her that she could use his bathroom but she refused and asked for the guest bathroom.
"Fine…..you asked" Sid mumbles and tells her to go on the first floor of the house and the room directly above the pool was the one she could use. Nikki thanks Sid and skips upstairs, completely missing the gleam of satisfaction which had settled in Sid's eyes.
Nikki collected her bag and wrapped the towel around her waist like a sash and skipped to upstairs.
"Nikki….where are you going?"Aarti asked Nikki as she entered the house and Nikki tells her.
"Oh do you want me to point out the room?" Aarti asks but Nikki refuses, telling her that Sid had done the needful.
"Mam…..your house is warm and beautiful" Nikki compliments Aarti, looking at the tastefully done interiors which had the stamp of immense care and love on them.
"Oh thanks beta……treat it as your own" Aarti smiles fondly at the girl she knew her eldest had chosen and had confessed the first night he had been here when she had asked.
Nikki smiled and proceeded upstairs and stopped in front of the room Sid had told her to use and knocked, just in case someone was already using it. When she heard no one, she gently turned the knob and stopped dead two steps inside.
It smelled like Abhi. This wasn't possible, but she knew in her heart that Abhi wore the same perfume. Why oh why did this have to happen to her? However hard she tried, something or the other reminded her of him. Nikki fidgeted for a minute. Her heart asked her to stay near the smell which reminded her of Abhi but her logical mind asked her to step away.
Finally her heart wins. She was so far away from him that just enjoying the familiar smell of him was too hard to turn down. She locks the door behind her and enters the room, which looked like a man's room.
"Stupid Sid……must be his room" she mumbles looking around.
It was a beautiful room and had the Chicago Bulls Ensignia, and a Michael Jordan signed Chicago bulls baseball cap lying proudly on a table. The windows were French windows which opened to a balcony above the pool. The bed was a four poster bed with white linen.
"Nice" Nikki looks appreciatively. Sid was neat and had classy taste. She starts taking out her clothes and laying them on the bed.
Abhi who had been in the shower, dresses and steps out in his room dressed in jeans and a dark blue T-shirt and stops dead when he sees the back of a girl, gently laying down her clothes on his bed.
The dark hair and the beautiful skin and her shapely back, tell him who the person was and his breath hitches. Finally……finally he had her where he wanted her and he could kiss his brother out of gratitude. Slowly and very softly, so as not to make her aware of his presence, he walks behind her, controlling the insane urge to take her in his arms and kiss her breathless.
"Hey" he softly greets her and Nikki jumps with a scream. Immediately Abhi's hands go to her mouth to stop the scream from resounding and the whole house coming to inquire. He needed this time with her.
Nikki's eyes widen when she actually looks at the face to which the hand belonged and she stills.
"Breathe Nikki" Abhi gently takes his hand away but Nikki keeps staring as she had seen a ghost.
"Y…You?" she says disbelievingly and her left hand rises to cup his cheek gently to feel if he was real or had she gone completely mad that she was imagining him in Sid's room. When she sees need falre in those very amazing chocolate eyes, she gasps.
"Abhi….wh…what are you….what….how come you are here?" she looks at him confused, his sudden appearance making no sense, and she forgets that she was still in her swimsuit, with a towel draped around her waist.
"This is my room" Abhi replies, enjoying her confusion. She looked beautiful and that was an understatement. He had never seen her this disheveled. Her hair were wavy and drying around her face and she looked so young in her red swimsuit and bare feet. It felt perfect with her clothes lying on his bed.
"Y…your…room?" Nikki's eyes widen in shock and then everything clicks. Dr. Aarti Modi was his mother, Sidhhant Modi his brother and the house she was standing in was Abhimanyu Modi's lair.
"Oh my god" her hand went to her mouth and as she took a step back, her back hit the bed post. How had she not made this connection before? The Modi name; then her hospital being his alma mater too? How dense had she been?
Abhi looks at the thousand expressions that flitted across her face and he stepped closer, effectively trapping her between himself and the bed post.
"My room, my bed" he points towards her clothes which were carelessly strewn over the bed and Nikki burns red, "My house and my towel" he whispers, pointing at the towel wrapped around her lithe body and Nikki's heart beats in her mouth.
"I…..I …didn't….guest room" Nikki mumbles, her voice sticking in her throat , refusing to come out and her eyes not believing that he was right in front of her, the distance of just a touch.
"This is not the guest room…it's my room" he says softly, taking another step closer, enjoying the effect he was having on her as he didn't know when she would get mad at her, as was her record of turning all their romantic or closely romantic moments into full blown fights.
"I….s..ss…sorry" she gasps, backing more into the bed post if possible and holding it with both her hands for dear life. Where had he appeared from? He had been so ill……wait a minute he had been ill…..what was he doing here? The liar.
As anger flared in her big dark eyes, Abhi smiled at being correct in his prediction.
"You were supposed to be sick" Nikki asks getting mad and forgetting to hug the bedpost and the little distance between them and takes a step forward, her hands on her waist and her eyes angry.
"I still am" he replies without moving.
"Liar" she throws at him.
"See for yourself" he grabs her hand and puts it on his forehead and a current of pleasure passes through Nikki's body, also pulling her closer to him. Nikki's mouth opens and closes, without a single sound coming from it, taken aback by their closeness.
"Ain't I?" his question makes her snap out of her listlessness, which had suddenly attacked her at his touch.
"I….need….to…g….go" she snatches her arm back and turns to collect her clothes.
"I need you to stay" he says softly and Nikki's back stiffens.
"For what? Is there some other insult left to wing my way? Oh or are you thinking that I am here to seduce you?......Anyways….my mistake….if I had known that this was your house….I would have never made the mistake of entering it" Nikki blasts at him, her eyes filling with tears, which she wiped away harshly with the back of her hand, collecting her clothes and stuffing them in the back pack, without actually seeing what she was doing.
"Nikki….listen to me" Abhi takes her hands in his, but she snatches them away, furiously trying to pack. Stupid stupid clothes…..why couldn't they fit now….stupid Sid….he had….she would kill him…cut him to pieces…..stupid stupid….
"Nikki" Abhi turns her to face him and snatches her bag and throws it on his bed, her clothes falling out again.
"My clothes…..what are you doing" she struggles trying to get to the bed and jerks herself away from him so hard that she falls on the bed. While falling she grabs his t-shirt hard, resulting in him falling on top of her. He rolls to not put his weight on her and Nikki lands on top of him, his hands clutching her waist. In this rolling, one side of the swimsuit strap falls off her shoulder, which doesn't escape Abhis eyes.
Nikki notices his eyes on her and hurriedly tries to fix her strap but he catches her hand and his other hand leaves her waist to gently put the strap back on her shoulder. Nikki blushes hard and closes her eyes, enjoying and at the same time trying to fight the sensations he was arousing in her with his feather light touches.
"Abhi please" Nikki whispers trying to get out of his hold and struggling to get up.
"I am not holding you Nikki" he raises his hands in front of her and a blushing Nikki rolls away and starts collecting her clothes.
"Go on…..change…..I will step out" he offers.
"No……I….I think I'll go" she mumbles, refusing to look at him.
"Not in a swimsuit….change sweetie" he says the last word so softly that Nikki thinks her ears are ringing and Abhi walks out, rushing to thank his brother.
Thanks for ur sweet commennts guys............but if u want a contiuation pm me some idea for story line ............ cause nowdays my mind dsnt work much ....I wrote this cause i always wanted nikki to fall for Abhi first and even if he likes her he avoids her plus I wanted a bful girl to come n create jealousy in Nikki ..............

I love the new Abhi who's cool, calm, reserved yet stubborn with a lot of attitude all at the same time. This Abhi is sexy coz he doesn't lose his temper at the drop of a hat but when he does, he burns us alive...and I never enjoyed the heat of a flame so much 😳 Oh, I think that cough syrup is having it's effect...am getting sleepy and I'm talking bakwas...LOL!
