Life today has come to a normal course for Captain Rajveer Singh Shekhawat. Just a few months back, he was accused and framed in murder charges of his senior commanding officer, Colonel Shakti Chandra and this had been done very cleverly. There was no way to escape; the circumstantial evidences were against him. He didn't even have a lawyer to defend himself. But he didn't lose hope. Whenever he felt his strength failing and his courage sapping away, he closed his eyes and that radiant, moon like face with those clear hazel eyes came in front of his mind. Not that she was away from him any time; she was always with him ' in his heart, in his mind and in his soul; she was his constant companion in the hours of his solitude and the promise given to her was the only thing which kept him going. He had escaped en route to the jail and she; she and her fellow cadets had been punished for aiding a murderer. But true to her nature, she had not given up; instead she had fought and had won. She had succeeded in proving him innocent. He had got back his honour, his career, his uniform and had also been promoted to the post of Major. The perpetrator of the crime, Major Nair was behind the bars and he, he was back in KMA as her teacher.

But what mattered most to the young Major was the ignorance about what was going on in his cadet's mind. He had been nurturing feelings for her ever since he came face to face with his heart in the solitary confinement. After that many incidents happened which completely altered the course of their lives. Now, after a long time things had finally fallen into place and ever since he was back in KMA they had been spending a lot of time together. She was closer to him than ever before, and he did not want her to go away from his life. She had become the very essence of his existence. And now, at this point he dared not to lose her. She was too precious for him.

He looked at himself in the mirror as he arranged the knot of the tie in its place. His mind was however revolving round her. How was he going to control his feelings when he would come face to face with her in the Valentine's Day party? He chided himself mentally for accepting Brigadier Chandok's suggestion, but then there was no way he could deny it; it was a command after all. He smiled to himself when he thought about the audacity of his cadets. They really had the guts to seek BC's permission for a Valentine Day party outside KMA. However what surprised Rajveer the most was that BC had readily given the permission but had put up the condition that two faculty members should accompany them and he had asked Rajveer and Dr. Shalini to accompany them. Little did he know that it was all the master plan of Shalini who had helped them in securing the permission and had proposed Raj's name so that the Brigadier should have no problems in giving them the desired permission.

And now; this dress code. What had prompted the cadets to make white as the color of the dresses for that evening? He looked at his faultless white suit. He was wearing a white shirt with strips and a spotless white trousers and matching coat. For a moment, his mind wandered towards Naina. How would she be looking in a white dress? No doubt beautiful. He had seen her in a red saree once and then in a white chudidaar kameez and though he was bowled over when he saw her in the saree, he was caught unawares by her simplicity and innocent beauty which came forth in the white dress. And today, the dress code was again white. He wondered what she would be wearing. But one thing he was sure of, whatever she would wear, she would carry it with perfect ease and grace. She was always like that. He forcibly shut his mind up and commanded himself to stop thinking about her. "Warna mai apne kamre se hi bahar nahi nikal paunga, party venue tak pahunchna to dur ki baat hai." He locked the door of his quarters and walked down the corridor, a dashing and handsome figure dressed in white who drew long sighs from the female cadets and admiring and even a few jealous glances from the males. Oblivious to all, he walked on lost in his own thoughts.

Rajveer's dress:-

Naina adjusted the clips in her hair and applied the eye makeup. She was all alone in the room. Pooja had already dressed and gone down asking Naina to be on time as she had wanted to spend some time with Ali. Naina was feeling a strange excitement in her heart which she was unable to place. What was happening to her? Why was she feeling so excited? "Take a grip on yourself Cadet Naina Ah... Singh. You are losing your senses." She commanded herself. But only if the heart would have listened to her, it would have been easy. Instead it began beating faster as if expecting something to happen right then. She finally gave it up knowing very well that to calm her over exhilarated heart was a worthless exercise.

She put on the accessories and surveyed herself for one last time in the mirror. Satisfied that she was dressed properly for the evening, she looked at her wrist watch and recoiled in horror. "My God, I'm late by half an hour. Pooja mujhse kitni naraaz hogi." Quickly she took the keys from the dressing table and locking the door raced down the stairs and towards the ground.

Rajveer walked out into the KMA grounds where he found the cadets and Dr. Shalini waiting for him impatiently. "Kya baat hai, aap log gaye nahi? Aap log toh pehle jaane wale the na?"

"Haan Major Shekhawat, hum log jaane toh wale the magar aapki favourite cadet jo nahi aayi hai abhi tak." Doctor Shalini replied in an irritated voice.

At the very mention of Naina, Raj felt a strange excitement course through his veins and it took him all his self control to stop himself from giving away his real feelings. Instead, he tried to put on a casual tone. "Why, what happened?"

"Wo kya hai na sir, Naina apun sab ke baad me aayi thi. Won a uss party ki taiyari kar rahi thi na, isliye shayad der ho rahi hai use."

"I see, thik hai ruk jaate hain kuch der." Raj put in casually.

"Wo Sir..." Aalekh hesitated.

"Kya baat hai Cadet Aalekh?" Shalini queried.

"Wo kya na ki apun logon ko jaldi jana tha, kuch kaam baki reh gaya tha shayad, Naina keh rahi thi." Aalekh said.

"Toh thik hai, aap log jao, mai aur major rukte hain Naina ke liye."

"Par ma'm Brigadier Sir ne kaha tha ki hum log tabhi ja sakte hain jab facaulty ka koi humare saath jaye. Aur agar unhe pata chal gaya ki hum akele gaye hain, to wo toh humara connection hi kaat denge KMA se." Pooja put in.

"Ye baat bhi sahi hai." Raj said.

"Offo thik hai, major Shekhawat, aap Naina ko lekar aaiye, aur mai inn logon ke saath jaati hun."

"Par madamjee, mai rukta hun na..." Huda was still not ready to live Naina alone with Rajveer but Aalekh, Pooja and Ali too pounced on him.

"Aap yahan ruk ke kya karenge Huda bhai? Naina ka khayal to Rajveer sir rakh lenge, par humari madad kaun karega."

"Haan Huda, tu chal mere saath." And she and Aalekh dragged an unwilling Huda towards the jeep. Aalekh took the wheels and within seconds, the jeep had disappeared behind a cloud of dust. Raj sighed and looked at his watch. "Ye Naina itna late kyun kar rahi hai?" he wondered.

He turned back and leaned on the side of his jeep with his eyes fixed on the entrance as he waited for Naina to come quickly. It was an agonizing wait of ten minutes after which the slender frame of Naina emerged out of the door and almost blew his senses away. He straightened up and kept on staring at her without batting an eyelid.

She was dresses in a white coloured robe with two red roses on either side of the shoulders and some red strips on the upper part of the dress. A pair of stylish heart shaped ear rings hung from her ears while her neck was adorned with the simplest of necklace he had ever seen. She had a bracelet on her right hand and a small dainty watch on her left. She came out and looked around for her friends. Her eyes finally came and rested on him. As she saw him waiting for her, she knew her friends had left her behind and now she had to go with her Rajveer Sir. Well, the prospect of having his company was the most beautiful thing that was going to happen to her that day. She started walking towards him and almost involuntarily her steps slowed down until she was walked at a snail's pace towards Rajveer.

Rajveer had forgotten everything, his earlier impatience, the delay, the party, everything. All he wanted to do now was to just keep staring at her, taking in her perfections, her beauty, her innocence forever. "How beautiful!!!" he wondered as he kept watching her progress with suppressed pleasure.

NAINA'S DRESS AND OTHER ACCESSORIES:-

Naina meanwhile was lost in her own thoughts. She had seen the look of adoration in his eyes and she knew what she had wanted to know for a long time. He loved her, yes he loved her. Her heart skipped a bit at this realization. But the next moment, her mind went back to the past incidents. "Maine kya kuch nahi kiya aapke saath Sir, fir bhi aapne humesha mera saath diya. Apne gusse ki wajah se mai kuch bhi samajhne ko taiyar nahi thi aur... aur maine aapko goli bhi maar di aur aapki lash dekhna chahti thi. Kitna kuch bura kiya maine aapke saath, fir bhi aapne mere khilaaf ek shabd nahi kaha. Meri burai ka badla aapne apni bhalai se diya. Aaj bhi mai apni nazron me sharminda hin. Aaj tak maafi bhi nahi maangi maine aapse. Humesha aapse leti aayi hun, diya kuch bhi nahi." There were tears in her eyes as she thought of all this.

Slowly, she came and stood in front of Rajveer. They kept on staring at each other when Raj caught sight of the tears in her eyes. He was surprised. What was the matter with Naina? He looked deep into her eyes and found the answer. She was felling guilty. The tears were threatening to spill any minute now.

With a smile, he took hold of her hands and raised them upto his lips. He placed a soft kiss on the back of her palms, then looked straight in to her eyes. "You are looking enchanting Naina." He was satisfied to see the blush colouring her cheeks. He was satisfied for now. She would not cry for some time now.

He took her by her arms and directed her towards the jeep. When she was seated comfortably, he took the wheels and drove away.

The venue of the party was an up market hotel located in the heart of Ambala. It took them almost half an hour to reach there. It was not half an hour drive from KMA but Rajveer had spent atleast half of the time staring at Naina and had therefore been slow in driving the jeep.

Now he parked the jeep and then helped her get down. He then offered her his arm and was happy to see her accept it unblushingly. "Shall we go?" he asked.

She nodded and together they went inside. Raj was simply enchanted by the decorations. "Naina, ye sab tumne kiya hai?" he asked surprised.

"Aapko acha laga sir?" Naina asked with a smile.

"Acha??? Arey ye toh bahut khubsurat hai." He had moved a step forward while Naina kept standing at the doorway smiling at his amazement.

PARTY VENUE:-

"Kyun na ho? Aakhir iski event manager khud itni khubsurat hai." A female voice startled both of them and they turned to see Dr. Shalini standing with a mischevious smile on her lips. "Kyun, hai ki nahi Major?"

Naina blushed at this and looked down while Raj contained himself with one of his killer smiles.

"Arey ye kya Major?" Shalini rolled her eyes and walked towards Naina. Meanwhile, the other casdets had gathered round them.

"Hai rabba, Naina kitni soni lag rahi hai tu?" Pooja screamed when she saw her friend.

"Wahi toh na Cadet Ghai." Shalini pulled Naina and made her stand in front of Rajveer. "Har koi keh raha hai, bas ye Major sahib hi apni protge ko compliment nahi de rahe. Aapki iss killer smile se kaam nahi chalne wala Major Shekhawat." Shalini said in her usual mischevious way.

"Doctorrrr. Aap bhi na!!!" Raj was finding it hard to control his blush. This Shalini was impossible. She was hell bent on putting him in a tight spot in front of his cadets.

"Arey, mai bhi na kya??? Mai bhi na kya Major??? Aap toh manne ko taiyar hi nahi hai ki Naina sundar lag rahi hai?"

"Par maine mana kab kiya Dr. Shalini?"

"Aap kaha bhi toh nahi. Itni mehnat ki hai aaj cadet Singh ne, inka haq banta hai ek compliment par."

Naina smiled inwardly blushing at the memory of the "different type of compliment" she had got from him. Unknowingly, she clasped and unclasped her finger and then touched the back of her palm cherishing the feel of his lips on her skin.

Raj, who was about to retort back, saw her reaction and changed his mind. "Doctor Shalini, aap shayad sahi keh rahi hain. Cadet Singh ka haq banta hai ek compliment par." He smiled when he saw the surprise in her hazel eyes as she looked up at him. "May I have the pleasure of a dance with the most beautiful girl in the world?" he put out his right palm as he asked her.

Shalini whistled in merriment while the cadets cheered. "Maan gaye aapko Major. Aapne prove kar hi diya, Rajveer Singh Shekhawat cheez hi alag hai." Shalini said to him.

"Mujhe jawab nahi mila abhi tak Doctor Shailini." Rajveer said in a very grave tone and everything went quiet. Naina was jostled out of her dream world by Pooja and Shalini. "Arey Naina, kya soch rahi hai tu?"

"Cadet khana khoi hui hain aap?"

"Uh... uh wo sorry." And shyly she placed her left hand in his still outstretched palm. This time the cheers were deafening. The Dj put on a song and Raj led Naina towards the dance floor.

DANCE FLOOR:-

Rajveer looked at her intensely only to find her looking down at the floor. Though their hands were clasped together and they were very close to each other, Naina didn't meet him in the eyes.

"Naina... look at me." He said to her softly.

Naina looked up at him and he found her blushing at their nearness. Raj understood this very well and smiled inwardly at her innocence. "Feeling shy?" his voice was barely audible.

"Tum pehle to itna nahi sharmati thi." Raj teased her.

"Pehle ki baat aur thi." Naina retorted defensively. "Uss wakt..." It all came back to her, the way she had behaved, what all she had done... could he ever forgive her?

Raj noticed the change in her countenance. "Ooffho. Ye fir se kya sochne lagi?" he thought to himself. Looking at her sad and guilty expression and the tears in her eyes, Raj came to a decision.

"Naina... sun rahi ho na meri baat?"

"Ji? Ji boliye." She came back to the present from her thoughts. The hall was lit by only a few lights making the room semi dark. She could she her friends lost in their own world ' Pooja and Ali, Aalekh and Neelu, Yudi and Dr. Shalini, Huda was with another girl. Nobody was paying attention towards them.

She looked up at him to find his brown orbs gaze deeply into her hazel eyes and suddenly she felt shy. However, she controlled herself and asked him a question which she wanted to ask him for a long time.

"Sir, kya aap mujhe maaf kar sakte hain?"

"Kisliye Naina?" he asked in a puzzled tone.

"Kisliye??? Itna sab kuch kiya maine aapke saath, yahan tak ki aapko maarne me bhi koi kasar nahi chodi, fir bhi aap puch rahen hain kisliye? Aapne mujhe itni aasani se maaf kar diya jabki aapko toh mujhe sazaa deni chahiye thi." Her voice was drenched in her guilt and pain.

Raj surveyed her for a few seconds in complete silence and then said,

"Mai har sazaa puri karne ke liye taiyar hun sir." She replied proudly.

"Nahi kar paogi Naina." Raj teased her.

"Aap keh ke toh dekhiye, mai jarur puri karungi." She said.

"Ye itna asaan nahi hai cadet." Raj deliberately said in a serious voice. "Aapko koi help nahi milegi isme apne doston se."

"Thik hai." Raj gave a resigned sigh. "Aap itna keh rahi hain toh yahi sahi." He paused a bit dramatically and then said, "Aapki sazaa hai ye hai ki aapko apni puri zindagi mere naam karni padegi, mere saath bitani padegi, kar payengi aap ye sab?" he said all of this in her ear as he twirled her around and held her close to himself. Then he pulled apart a bit to see her reaction.

He could discern the utter astonishment on her visage. She had gone still, silent. He was scared. "Naina..." he called her name softly. "I was just..."

"Aisi sazaa pane ke liye toh koi bhi ladki saari zindagi intezaar karne ho taiyar ho. Kya mai sapna dekh rahi hun ya aapne sachmuch mujhse ye kaha hai?"

Raj looked at her and knew that he had to clarify everything. He looked around and found everyone lost in their own world. Another song had started in the background. He knew nobody would notice their absence now. And even if they did, he didn't care. To hell with them and their thought, hadn't he given enough importance in the past to what the other people thought? What had he got in return? It was high time he thought about himself and Naina.

He grasped her wrist and guided her down the dance floor and through the back door into the garden.

Once there, he turned to take a proper look at her. "Naina..." he whispered not sure if she had really said it inside.

He was holding her by her shoulders. She looked up at him. "Ye sazaa hai ya tohfa? Aapke naam apni puri zindagi kar pana... isse badi khushi aur kuch nahi hai mere liye." The tears which she had held in check were flowing freely now. "Par mai iss khushi ke kaabil nahi hun. Mera aap par koi haq nahi hai."

He cupped her face in his palms and kissed away her tears. "Tumhare alawa aur kisi ka koi haq nahi hai mujh par Naina. Mai tumhara tha, tumhara hun aur tumhara rahunga. Mujhse pyaar karne ka haq bhi tumhara hai, aur nafrat karne ka bhi. Isme koi shart nahi hai, koi galati nahi aur koi maafi nahi hai. Mai tumse na toh kabhi naraz tha, nah un aur na hi kabhi ho sakta hun, samjhi tum?" he finished lovingly and placed another feather soft kiss on her eyelids.

Naina hugged him tightly and cried her heart out. Raj simply pulled her closer and held her protectively in his tight grip and let her cry. He knew she had been bottling this up for quite some time and therefore had to take it out. Naina kept on crying in his arm for full 10 minutes before she controlled herself.

He felt her regaining some of her old control back. Then he felt her pulling out of his grip and he let her go, but not completely. He still had his arms around her waist. "Are you all right?" he asked her with concern.

She nodded in affirmative and smiled reassuringly. He let her go and put his hands in his pocket and took out a red metallic box.

"I had never thought that I would be able to say all this. I had decided to wait for the right time. But now, the wait is futile."

He opened the box to reveal a beautiful, two - toned heart shaped ring inside it.

Before her wondering eyes, he went down on a knee and put out his hand. Squirming with the sudden feeling of coyness she extended her left hand and gave it into his outspread right one. He smiled and held her left hand in his left and slowly slipped the ring in her finger. Then he looked up only to ask her, "Naina... I don't know whether this is the right time or not. But I can't wait any longer. Will you be my valentine for today and forever?"

Naina smiled and nodded and he got up from the semi recumbent posture. The next moment she was pulled into his arms. "May I...?" he questioned mischievously.

She smiled and nodded. All of a sudden, she wasn't feeling shy any more.

He bent forward and captured her lips in a sweet and passionate encounter. She had her arms around his neck and she pulled him closer to herself.

As she reciprocated to his demands, she reflected on the past incidents of her life. She had come a long way in the last three years. She had got the biggest gift of her life. She had got him. She was his' forever. She didn't want anything else. Her cup of happiness was full.
