PART 3 : THE "UN"FRIENDS
Diya and Samrat were lately getting to her.. From "hit on each other" , their current status was "can't stand each other".. After getting into a MAJOR fight at Gunjan's place on New Year's Eve, they were always bickering... And what was most irritating about it was, that they always called upon Gunjan to mediate.
One afternoon, Samrat and Mayank kept whispering to each other in the bus... On reaching home, she received a call from Mayank.. "Gunjan , call Samrat. Now." " But whats wrong?" "Its Diya. Him and Diya.. Again.. Theyve had problem.. A major one this time.."
Infuriated, she dialled Samrat's number.. "NOW WHAT!? " She exclaimed as soon as she heard his husky baritone... Which made her think about his eyes... His lips... Until... "I like Diya ." brought her bang down to reality....
Fighting the tears that seemed to have suddenly sprung in her eyes, and ignoring the sinking feeling in her stomach, she concentrated on what he was saying..
"Did you hear me Gunjan?" "Yea...Yeah...Tell me Samrat... What can I do in this? " "I want you to ask her out... For me.. Look... your one of my closest friends...And you are Diya's best friend.. I really need you now ya... Please help me..." And she agreed..
Twenty minutes and a heavy discussion with Diya later, she called Samrat back.. "Cut the excess and come to the point Gunjan.." His eager tone, which sounded slightly harsh, hurt her more than what he said...
"Congratulations Samrat.." was all she could muster, hoping he would keep the phone down and spare her the sorrow of now "sharing his joy" like the "true friend" she was.. But she should have known better.. It was her life, after all..
In between excited whoops of joy and "Isnt it greats" , he seemed to have forgotten that the girl he had talked, flirted and called on for help for hours everyday, was present on the other end of the line..wanting to curl up and die...
And so the Diya-Samrat saga started.. Gunajn being made to feel, every moment, of how much of a hindrance she was to the "lovebirds"..If not for Benji, she would not have survived..She tried her best to walk away from their lives, to distance herself from Samrat, who in turn, was growing closer to her every passing day. Samrat's parents and sister seemed to love her to bits, and there were mny a evenings when Gunjan sat with aunty, gossiping over a cup of hot coffee.. Di , Samrat's sister, seemed to think that Gunjan was the only one who could fire Samrat, and may a times called her to just speak to her, to help her with her life..
It went on so, the reality of Diya and Samrat not quite hitting her really tillone day at her place.. It was just her, Diya and Samrat.. They were watching Harry Potter, and when she suddenly turned around to tell them something in between, she wished she never would have..
Samrat had his head on Diya's shoulder, and their hands were intertwined , with him stroking her hand.. Never had Gunjan had heard such an explosion inside her...Never had she felt so alone, so broken..
Quickly, she whipped her head back in front, and tried to forget about what she just saw..
That night, her dreams had Samrat turning into Diya and the Diya turning into Sid.. She didnt sleep a wink that night..
She had fnally accepted that she was over Sid, and into Samrat...So into him, infact, that there was no way out of there...try as she might..But Samrat kept making matters worse..If only he could stick to his girlfriend and be over with it for once, but no... Gunjan was "very important" in his life, and the first call, anytime, was always to her..
And then he went to Goa on a vacation.. She missed him terribly.. Mayank tried to be funny, adn really sweet about it... But she found herself wanting to see that broken toothed smile more and more with each passing day he was not there.. Till he called.. He was back from Goa, and said he had a surprise waiting fo rher the next day at school, he said..
Now beginning to dread his surprises, she tried hard to bunk school the next day, but in vain.. It seemed as if she was God's personal entertainment, she thought angrily!
As she sat in the bus the next day, a hand popped out in front of her.. holding a red bag with golden stars and hearts on it... She pinched herself to make sure if this was real, when "Open it...Go on.." , his husky vcoice somewhere close behind her ear made her turn...And she FINALLY SAW... that smile she had being dying to see...
"Go on", he said..urging her to open the bag...She did, and caught her breath..Inside was the most beautiful shell bracelet she had laid her eyes on... lying there in a red wrapping tissue...
so.... hows it? sorry for forcing on you sooo much of torture at once..but its kinda like an adaptation of a real happening...and i can write loads..but tellme if im gettin boring k?
