"I'm not pretending", informed Shilpa with bit of annoyance at how Sukirti was not understanding her. She went next to Sukirti and sat in a chair that was next to the bed. "Please Sukku don't break up with Karan, he loves you and he's repenting for his mistake since forever".
"Didn't I tell you not to call me that?" growled Sukirti. Shilpa let out a heavy sigh, she knew how stubborn Sukirti was but she still kept trying her best.
"Do you really think you'll be happy like this?" Shilpa asked.
"Well, do you think I'll be happy with a cheater"? Sukirti declared.
"No, but aren't you happy that he had the guts to ask forgiveness, and stick around for this long?"Shilpa questioned her. Sukirti thought about this for a while and answered.
"Why can't you understand that even if I forgive him we'll never be the same?" her answer was once again in a question form.
"Why are you doing this to yourself? You won't be happy, I won't be happy and certainly Karan won't be happy. It was just a stupid mistake. We were both drunk and it was a mistake", she finished with a genuine smile.
"May I come in?" both of the girls turned their attention to the door. It was the new doctor that they were introduced to this morning. "Sorry I didn't mean to disturb you guys but I kind of need to speak with Sukirti alone", Amit said.
"Of course Dr. Tondon", Shilpa answered him and went out the door.
"Hello Ms. Kandpal how are you feeling? Amit asked sweetly.
"I'm feeling much better than before but my head does hurt a little", Sukirti answered in the same tone.
"Well you just need bed rest for a day and you'll be all ready to get back in here tomorrow. And don't keep a lot of things in your head if you do you'll find these situations a lot".
"I'll keep that in mind Dr. Tondon"
"Call me Amit".
"Okay then Amit, I'll be sure of that".
"If you don't mind me asking, why are you in this bed?" Amit asked trying not to invade her privacy but he couldn't help it.
"Just had a fight with a friend, actually two friends", she answered Amit giving back the genuine smile.
"I'm sorry hope it'll be resolved soon", he showed her his sympathy.
"Yeah, I hope so too but I don't think it's that easy", she said.
"I sure don't want to be another problem so I'll leave you here to rest and I'll go", Amit said getting up from the chair that Shilpa was sitting on earlier.
"Thanks", Sukirti said.
Next Day
"Come on Drashti don't be like that", Mayank pleaded.
"No, Mayank you'll get your cell when I think you're ready for it. You haven't stopped talking on it since forever and I'm sick of it", Drashti implied getting mad.
"It's my cell I can do anything with it", he said.
"Well being your wife I can't listen to you all day talking on the phone", she replied.
"When are you guys going to stop fight like this?" Karan asked chuckling a bit. "First I thought you'd guys never tell each other how you felt about each other and now being married you guys still fight the same way", he finished letting out a laugh. They kept staring at him till he swiped that smile off his face. Drashti smiled inside seeing how they affected Karan.
"Whatever", Drashti said. She then saw Sukirti coming in and decided to ask her about Mayank. "Sukirti do you think Mayank should spend his time talking on his phone or paying attention to me?"
Sukirti gave a look to Mayank and exchanged glances with Mayank and Drashti.
"I should pay attention to Drashti more", Mayank said immediately going to give a hug to her.
"Sukku has that magic going on in peoples lives", Shilpa said walking in. Sukirti rolled her eyes and motioned to her locker. Shilpa followed Sukirti.
"Why can't you leave me alone?" Sukirti asked.
"Because I don't want to", Shilpa answered.
Sukirti ignored her, took her white coat and went out the locker room.
Shilpa did the same and so did everyone else. Instead of going to Dr. Keerti's cabin they all went to Amit's office and waited for him to show up.
As he entered Amit smiled a little at Sukirti. She felt a little strange but smiled back. Karan saw this and he was definitely not smiling.
"Hello doctors, how are we this evening?" Amit asked his interns. Some of them replied saying good and some just smiled.
"Today everyone is working on Mr. Khanna's case", he announced opening a folder. "But there are different sections so I'm assigning partners to work on it", he finished. Karan prayed he would be partnered with Sukirti. Sukirti wished the opposite.
"Dr. Mayank and Drashti you guys are going to do research on his heart", he told them, and handed them the folder he had in his hands and they were on their way. "Dr. Karan and Shilpa you guys are going to the lab", all three of them looked disappointed.
Karan took the folder and they both headed their way. Just before going out the door he looked back at Sukirti but saw nothing on her face. He let out a sigh and disappeared.
"Dr. Sukirti you're going to have to work with me today".
She didn't say anything.
"Is it okay with you?" he tried again.
"Of course", she replied.
"Good. So let's get started".
