Tears fell from Nupur's eyes as she thought of Mayank's face when Bui locked him out of the house and forbade him from meeting her. The pain-struck, heartbroken face. She had never seen Mayank like this.
Moreover, now that Bui had forbidden them from being together, the tears refused to stop. Nupur couldn't imagine a life without her Mayank. She knew Mayank was everything to her, everything she ever had, has and will ever have.
Tears drained her green suit and she didn't bother to wipe it off.
Just then she heard the lock open and she jumped up. Her sister, Gunjan, dressed in a pink salwar walked upto her quietly. Nupur jumped up and hugged Gunjan tightly. Gunjan hugged her back.
"Tu ne yeh kaise?" Nupur asked.
"Maine Bui ko sleeping pills diya hain," Gunjan said, looking away.
"Kya?" Nupur asked, a little loudly.
"Ssshhh," Gunjan said, motioning Nupur to lower her tone. "Mayank aur aapke ke liye maine yeh kiya di."
"Thanks Gunjan," Nupur said, gratefully.
"Suno di," Gunjan said. "Maine Samrat se baath ki, unhone kahaan ki Mayank seedi se aane waala hain."
"KYA?" Nupur exclaimed, once again a little too loud.
"Di dheere baath karo," Gunjan said. "Mere saare efforts mitti mein mil jaayega."
"Sorry sorry...By God Gunjan!" Nupur exclaimed, slowly returning to her old self. "Mujhe yakeen hi nahin ho raha hain ki Mayank mere liye aisa kuch karega! Bilkul film ki hero jaise!"
"Di aap Mayank ke saath bhaag jayiye," Gunjan suggested.
"Wow! Kitni filmy baath hain naa?" Nupur asked, awestruck by her sister's suggestion. "Yakeen hi nahin ho raha ki tu aise baathe kar rahe hain."
"Di aap ke liye kuch bhi," Gunjan said. "Chalo jaake sab kuch pack karlo."
"Haan haan theeke," Nupur said.
Nupur and Gunjan went upstairs. Nupur opened her cupboard and took out all her clothes.
Meanwhile, Mayank was sitting in an auto going to Nupur's house when his cell phone rang. He picked it up. It was his mother.
"Hello Maa," Mayank said.
Shilpa noticed a quiver in Mayank's voice.
"Kya huwa beta?" Shilpa asked.
"Maa who," Mayank said, crestfallen.
"Kya huwa Mayu?" Shilpa asked. "Nupur ke saath sab kuch theek hain naa?"
"Haan...nahin...haan...nahin Maa kuch bhi ttheek nahin hain," Mayank finally admitted.
"Tum dono ne phir se jagda kiya hain kya?" Shilpa asked. "Sab tera galti hain."
"Haan," Mayank said. "Main Nupur ke bina jee nahin paawunga Maa."
"Yeh toh main jaanti hoon beta, lekin huwa kya hain?" Shilpa asked. "Tum dono ne ladai kyun ki?"
"HUMNE LADAI NAHIN KI!" Mayank shouted.
"Shout karne ki koi zaroorat nahin," Shilpa said, her tone suddenly cold.
"Maa wo main itni pareshan hoon ki, sorry Maa," Mayank said. "MayUr ke baare main Bui ko patah chala hain aur ab such kuch kharab ho gaya hain."
"Kya?" Shilpa asked. "Aur ab tum?"
"Main Nupur se milne ke liye ghar jaa raha hoon," Mayank explained. "Mein seedi se GunUr ke kamre mein jaawoongi."
"Seedi se?" Shilpa asked, amused. "Waah bhai waah! Mera beta film ke hero banne waala hain!"
"Maa please," Mayank said. "Ab mazaak karne ki samay nahin hain."
"Sorry Mayu," Shilpa said. "Bui ne kuch kahaan?"
"Usne mujhe jhoota kahaan aur mujhe Nupur se milne se manaa kiya," Mayank said.
"Jhoota aur tu?" Shilpa exclaimed. "Yeh Bui se mujhe baath karni hi padegi."
"Aap pagal ho gaye ho Maa," Mayank said. "Yeh Bui kisi ki baath nahin sunti. Waise mujhe rakhna padega, main Nupur ki ghar pahunch chuki hoon."
"Ttheeke-ttheeke beta," Shilpa said, unable to hide her excitement. "All the best!"
"Thanks Maa," Mayank said, feeling slightly better.
Mayank ended the call, paid the rickshaw driver and got out. He jumped over gate and looked for the ladder Samrat had told him about. He found it and placed it against it the GunUr window. He slowly climbed up the ladder, careful not to make any noise.
Nupur chatted animatedly, unable to withstand her excitement. Mayank, her Mayank was coming to rescue her! They were going to run away together away from Bui and anyone else who threatened their relationship. She finally packed two whole bags. She placed the two bags on her bed and looked at Gunjan.
"Thanks Gunjan," Nupur said. "Yeh sab teri wajah se ho raha hain."
"Thanks ki koi zaroorat nahin hain di," Gunjan said, smiling. "Bas mujhe phone karna bhool na math."
"Arre," Nupur said. "Tu aur Samrat bhi hamare saath bhaag jao!"
"Koi kahin nahin bhaag rahi," a familiar voice said from behind.
Nupur flushed at the sound of that voice, the voice which she loved the most.
"Mayank," she said softly and ran straight into his arms. She buried her head in his chest, the place where she felt the safest. She felt a mixture of various emotions at the contact. This contact of theirs was different from the different. It was like their hug after the confession.
Mayank's arms snaked around Nupur and hugged her tightly. He didn't want this moment to end when the two of them were together and no one could separate them. Gunjan felt embarrassed to be around the two lovebirds, so she left the room quietly.
Nupur sobbed onto her lover's chest, making his orange shirt completely wet.
"Mayank you came," Nupur said.
"Maine kaise nahin aata," Mayank said. "Mein tumhare bina kuch bhi nahin kar sakti hoon. I love you Nupur."
"I love you too Mayank," Nupur said, this time unafraid of openly confessing her feelings. "I love you more than you can imagine."
Mayank separated Nupur from him and tilted her chin up. He lowered his head. Nupur closed her eyes and Mayank placed a sweet kiss on her forehead. Electricity shot through her when his lips touched her skin. Blood flushed through her body and she felt as though she was on fire.
She reached up to Mayank and placed a kiss on his cheeks.
Mayank pulled her close to him and clasped her hands in his. He gazed into her innocent eyes, full of questions, waiting to be answered. Nupur tried to look down, but was unable due to the intensity of his penetrating gaze.
"Chalo...maine...sab...kuch...pack...kar...liya...hain," Nupur managed to say.
"Kyun?" Mayank asked. "Kahaan ja rahe ho?"
"Tumhare saath bhaag jaane waali hoon," Nupur said, gazing at him lovingly.
"Nupur tum paagal ho gaye ho kya?" Mayank asked.
"Ab aur koi chaara nahin hain Mayank," Nupur said. "Bui mere shaadi kisi aur ke saath karne waali hain."
"Main aisa hone nahin doonga," Mayank said.
"Tum Bui ko nahin jaante Mayank," Nupur said. "Wo hume hargiz saath mein rehne nahin degi."
"Nupur yeh galat raasta hain, shortcut raasta hain aur hum yeh nahin-"
Just then Gunjan rushed into the room.
"Di, Mayank," she said. "Sleeping pills ki asar kuch samay mein khatam ho jaayega, jaldi chale jao yahaan se."
"Gunjan tum Nupur ki inn baathon mein math aao," Mayank said.
"Mayank maine hi yeh idea di ko diya tha," Gunjan said.
"Kya?" Mayank asked. "Gunjan tum aise ghatiya idea..."
"Chale jao tum dono, please," Gunjan pleaded.
After thinking for five full minutes, Mayank agreed. He took both of Nupur's bags and advanced towards the stairs. He climbed down and signaled for Nupur to come down. Nupur hugged her sister, gave her a kiss-on-the-cheek and climbed down.
Mayank and Nupur exited the room and got into an auto which took them to Samrat's house.
Gunjan on the other hand mixed another sleeping pill in Bui's tea and took it to her room. She slightly shook Bui who got up.
"Yeh lo chai," Gunjan said.
"Tu kitni khayal rakhti hain meri," Bui said, smiling at her.
Gunjan felt bad for lying to Bui, but she knew she had to for Nupur and Mayank's sake.
Bui drank the tea and felt a little dizzy.
"Yeh mujhe aaj itni neend kyun aa rahi hain?" Bui wondered.
"Aap kuch zyaada hi pareshan hoti ho," Gunjan said, looking away. "Ab aap so jao."
Bui fell asleep almost immediately, perhaps a response from both the sleeping pills.
Gunjan went and sat in the hall, fumbling with her cell phone.
Mayank and Nupur rang the bell repeatedly at Samrat's door. Suhaani finally opened the door, shocked to see both of them together.
"Samrat kahaan hain?" Mayank asked. "Wo andar hain Mayank."
Mayank rushed inside and signaled to Suhaani to close the door. Suhaani did so and asked Nupur to come inside.
"Suhaani tum yahaan?" Nupur asked, happily.
Suhaani told her story and Nupur hugged her. She was so happy that Samrat had finally accepted his sister. Nupur also explained how Mayank had rescued her and how they were planning to run away together. Suhaani smiled and nodded at the right places.
Mayank had already explained what had happened to Samrat. Samrat opened the online air ticketing website which allowed Mayank to book tickets for himself and Nupur at Maldives.
"Main aur Nupur for the time being Maldives jaayenge," Mayank said. "Tum Gunjan ki ttheek sambhal rakho."
"Of course Mayank," Samrat said offended. "Main Chashmish ki bahut khayal rakhta hoon."
Mayank printed out the air tickets and explained the whole plan to Nupur and Suhaani. Nupur looked up proudly at Mayank for finally being a tad bit filmy.
"Mar jawaan mere jaan," Nupur said. "Ab toh tum mere sapno ke rajkumar full form mein badal gaye."
"Yeh mazaak karne ka waqt nahin hain Nupur," Mayank said. "Chalo."
Mayank and Nupur hugged Samrat and Suhaani and bid them farewell.
On reaching the airport, Mayank and Nupur quickly checked in their luggage. Their flight was due in 4 hours.
"Chalo Mayank wo magazine stand chalo," Nupur said, pointing to a nearby magazine stand.
"Tum jao main yahaan wait karta hoon," Mayank said, pointing to a seat.
Nupur pouted and advanced towards the magazine stall.
"Yeh dono FilmFare pack karlo," a lady said. "Yeh mere hone waali bahu ke liye hain."
The voice was very familiar. Nupur tapped at the lady's shoulder and she turned around.
"Shilpa aunty?" Nupur exclaimed. "Aap yahaan?"
"Nupur?" Shilpa said. "Tum yahaan?"
"Haan main aur Mayank Maldives jaa rahe hain," Nupur said. "Bhaag ke."
"KYA?" Shilpa said, extremely shocked. "BHAAG KE?"
Mayank heard the confusion and advanced towards the magazine stall.
"Nupur tum kiske saath ladai kar rahe ho?" he asked.
"Mere saath Mayu," Shilpa said.
Mayank looked at his mother in absolute shock.
"Maa aap yahaan?" Mayank asked. "Kyun, kaise?"
"Maine suna ki tere aur Nupur ke rishte main koi problem hain," Shilpa said. "Aur main wo Bui se baath karna chahti thi."
"Wow aunty!" Nupur said. "Aap kitne sweet ho."
"Maa," Mayank said, too shocked for words. He was amazed at how much his mother could do for him.
"Kuch kehne ki zaroorat nahin," Shilpa said. "Ab koi bhagna-waghna nahin hain."
"Lekin Bui," Nupur said.
"Main Bui sa baath kar loongi," Shilpa said.
"Leki wo kisi ki baath nahin sunti Aunty," Nupur said.
"Aunty nahin Nupur," Shilpa said. "Maa."
Nupur felt tears well up in her eyes as she heard it. It was true. Shilpa Aunty had always been a mother figure to her. She had always wished her mother was like her. She had never seen her mother, only heard stories about her.
"Ab suno meri plan," Shilpa said. "Mein Nupur ko ghar chod doongi, Mayu tum Samrat ke ghar jao."
"Lekin," Mayank interrupted.
"Uske baad mein Samrat ke ghaw aawungi," Shilpa said, ignoring Mayank's interruption. "Phir jab Nupur ke Bauji ghar aayega wo hume phone karenge aur hum aayenge."
"Kya aapko lagta hain ki yeh kaam karega aunty...meri matlab hain Maa?" Nupur asked.
"Of course beta, kyun nahin?" Shilpa asked. "Ab jaldi chalo."
Mayank took another route home while Nupur and Shilpa took another. With Shilpa's help Nupur climbed back into her room. Shilpa shows her the thumbs-up sign which gives Nupur a lot of confidence. Nupur nodded and sat down. Shilpa caught the auto and went to Samrat's house.
Just then Gunjan entered the room and was shocked to see Nupur there.
"Di aap yahaan?" Gunjan asked, shocked.
"Haan Gunjan," Nupur said and explained the whole plan to her sister.
"Mayank ki Maa toh bahut smart hain," Gunjan said.
"Aur patah hain Gunjan," Nupur said. "Unhone mujhse usse Maa bulane ko kahaan."
"Kitni achchi hain wo," Gunjan said. "Kaash ki main usse mil paati."
"Aaj milne waale ho meri behen," Nupur said.
Just then the bell rang. Gunjan locked Nupur inside her room and went down. She opened the door and saw that it was Bauji.
"Bauji pranaam," Gunjan said, touching her father's feet.
"Jeete raho beta," Bauji said, smiling kindly at his daughter.
"Main abhi Bui ko bulaake laati hoon," Gunjan said.
Gunjan was secretly glad that Nupur had come back, because now she wouldn't have to face Bui's wrath. She shook Bui slightly who woke up.
"Bauji aaya hain," Gunjan said.
Bui jumped up and wore her spectacles. She took the keys and Nupur's cell phone and went to the hall.
"Pranaam bhaiyyah," Bui said.
Bauji nodded. He looked for Nupur but couldn't find her.
"Nupur kahaan hain?" he asked.
Bui explained the whole situation, badmouthing Mayank a lot in the process. Gunjan got very irritated in the process and tried to explain to Bauji how good a person Mayank was and how he couldn't find a better person for Nupur.
"Ratna tum yeh Mayank ke baare mein bura math bolo," Bauji said. "Mujhe pehle Nupur se baath karne padegi."
"Main di ko bulake laathi hoon," Gunjan said and Bui gave her the keys. Gunjan ran upstairs and unlocked the door.
"Bauji aa gaya hain di," Gunjan said, handing over her cell phone.
"Thank you Gunjan," Nupur said.
She dialed Mayank's number and was greeted by Mayank's sad voice.
"Bauji aaya hain," Nupur muttered.
"Hum abhi aaya," Mayank said.
Nupur mustered all her courage and went down clutching her fist together in fear and not in defiance.
"Pranaam Bauji," she said, touching her father's feet.
"Jeeti raho beta," Bauji said.
"Dekho kaise fist pakadke chal rahi hain, Mayank ki kaam hain yeh," Bui said.
"Bui aap please Mayank ke baare mein kuch bura math kaho," Nupur said. "Bauji, aap please ek baar Mayank se mill lee jiye."
"Wo kaise ladka hain Nupur?" Bauji asked.
"Bahut bura," Bui said.
"Ratna maine Nupur se poocha," Bauji said. "Batao Nupur beta."
"Mayank hamesha sach ke raasta hi leta hain," Nupur started. "Wo shortcuts mein believe nahin karta. Wo kabhi jhoot nahin bolta aur wo bahut hi paarivaarik hain."
"To uss din unhone humse jhoot kyun kahaan tha?" Bui asked.
"Wo bas ek galat faimi tha," Nupur said.
Just then the bell rang. Bui went forward to open it. Outside the door stood Mayank and behind him Shilpa.
"Maine tumse kaha tha naa yahaan aana math!" Bui yelled.
"Mere bete se iss tarah se baath math kee jiye ji," Shilpa said and entered the house.
Nupur's face brightened up.
"Shilpa Sharma?" Bauji said, in shock.
"Natwar Bhushan?" Shilpa said in shock, looking at Bauji.
"Aap dono ek doosre ko jaante ho?" Mayank asked, looking from Bauji to Shilpa and from Shilpa to Bauji.
"Jaante hain?" Shilpa asked. "Hum dono college ki best friends the!"
"Sach much?" Nupur asked, getting excited.
"Haan," Bauji said. "Yeh ladka kaun hain?"
"Natwar ji mera beta Mayank se milo," Shilpa said. "Aur Mayank yeh hain Natwar mera ek time best friend."
"Wow," Mayank said. "Wow."
"Yeh Mayank tumhara beta hain?" Bauji asked.
"Jee haan," Shilpa said. "Mayank aapki beti Nupur se bahut pyaar karta hain."
"Patah nahin bhaiyyah aap kaise logon se dosti karta ho!" Bui said, insulting Shilpa.
"RATNA!" Bauji said sternly. "Tum Shilpa ke baare mein aisa nahin bol sakti ho!"
Bui was shocked. She hadn't expected her brother to support Mayank's mother instead of her. She didn't want Nupur to get married to someone other than Adhiraj. Adhiraj was the boy she would have wanted for a son-in-law, but since she didn't have any girls herself, she had chosen him for Nupur.
"Suno Natwar," Shilpa said. "Main Nupur ko jaanti hoon, aur usse ek beti ki tarah pyaar bhi karti hoon."
"Aur mujhe patah hain ki Mayank se zyaada usse koi pyaar nahin kar sakta," Shilpa completed. "Bachpan mein hum yehi kehte the naa ki hum apne bachchon ki shaadi karwaadenge?"
"Wo ttheek hain," Bauji said. "Magar"
"Magar ki kya zaroorat hain Natwar?" Shilpa asked. "Tum mujhe jaante ho aur tumhe patah ho hoga mera beta kaisa hoga."
"Ttheeke," Bauji said. "Mujhe yeh rishta manzoor hain."
"KYA?" Bui shouted. "Bhaiyyah aap yeh kya keh raha hain?"
"Ttheek hi keh raha hoon," Bauji said. "Aur tum ho ki koi hindi serial ki villain ki tarah in pyaar karne waalon ko milane se rokte ho."
"Bhaiyyah aap," Bui stammered.
"Mujhe tumse kuch bhi nahin sunna Ratna," Bauji said. "Ab andar jao."
Bui went inside, fuming with anger.
Mayank and Nupur both had tears in their eyes, tears of happiness. They first touched Bauji's feet who gave them his blessings. Then they both hugged Shilpa who also gave them their blessings.
"Ab in dono ko do minute akele mein baath karne do," Bauji said, winking at Shilpa. Shilpa winked back.
MayUr went went into the garden. Before either of them said anything, they hugged each other passionately. Nupur, once again sobbed onto Mayank's shirt, this time out of pure happiness. Neither could believe that their long cherished dream was about to come true. They were each others forever and ever.
"Mujhe yakeen hi nahin ho raha hain Nupur," Mayank said cupping her face gently in both his hands.
"Mujhe bhi nahin Mayank," Nupur said, trembling.
Mayank tilted his head and brought it close to Nupur's. Slowly and carefully he pressed his lips against Nupur's. He kissed her slowly and softly, yet passionately. Nupur responded with equal passion. After a while they separated.
"I love you Nupur," Mayank said, holding his love close to his chest.
"I love you too Mayank," Nupur said, clutching onto his chest, intending to never let go.
