Chp.17 Destiny Rules...

The rays of the sun streamed Armaan's bedroom filtering through the drapes. The birds were chirping sweetly in the garden outside. Armaan turned in his bed and snuggled deeper into the soft quilt. The smooth bedspread and quilt felt like pure bliss on his bare chest in the cool weather. Suddenly his cell phone rang and Armaan was jerked out of his sweet dreams. He received the call. It was Abhimanyu. "Hello, kunwarji good morning, it's Abhimanyu, I've just called to say that I'm going to receive RS at the airport. You were asleep so I did not disturb you," said Abhimanyu.

"Fine Abhi, see you then," replied Armaan and hung up. He glanced at the watch in his cell and was shell shocked. It was 8.00 a.m. He was late today! No wonder Abhimanyu had gone alone. He sprang out of his bed and made a dash for the bathroom. RS would be arriving any moment and he didn't want to be late for the meeting. He also cancelled his sword fighting practice. He took a quick shower, got dressed and went down for breakfast. He ran down the stairs taking two at a time. CR and Anjali were at the dining table and were waiting for him. "Good morning choti maa, I'm sorry I'm late," he said.

"It's okay son," she replied faking an understanding smile but deep down in her heart she hated him. Once again he had managed to maintain his image in front of RS despite awaking late because Abhimanyu had gone to the airport on his behalf. He had a sandwich quickly and a cup of coffee and went to his study to get the files of the project report which he and Abhimanyu had made after checking out the locations for their project. He went through the report at a glance to make sure it was perfect. He just finished analyzing it when Abhimanyu called, "Hello Kunwarji, its Abhimanyu."

"Yeah Abhimanyu, what's up?" he asked.

"Kunwarji, RS has arrived and we are on our way to the palace. RS wants to know about the details of the project as soon as he arrives," replied Abhi.

Armaan had checked the report and felt confident, it was perfect. He was also ready for his meeting with RS.

RS soon arrived at the palace he was very happy and was also eagerly looking forward to know about the developments in Armaan's project. His trip had been successful and he had got the project. He first decided to go meet BR and share the good news with her. He went to her room where Ridhima was massaging her feet. On seeing RS, she quickly excused herself and left. He went and sat beside BR. She saw him and immediately a smile crossed her face. He hadn't been to meet her for the past few days as he had gone for the trip. RS was happy to see her smile. He asked her, "How are you?" Though she couldn't speak, she could very well understand when she was spoken to and she also replied with a nod or shake of her head. She nodded her head and smiled. RS understood and went on further. RS sat beside her and took her hand in his and said, "BR, I'm really sorry. I know you must be angry with me for not coming to visit you for the past few days, but I'm really sorry, I was out on a business trip."

BR gave an understanding smile and urged him to go on. RS continued excitedly, "The meeting went fine and now the ball is in our court. We've got the project BR, we've got the project! But I must say this is the result of your prayers and our son's hard work. The way Armaan had prepared the project report there was little I could do. It was convincing by itself and the clients were quite impressed. I must say, the way Armaan handles the business and also the grievances of the masses, it is really commendable. He is the model son that any family would feel proud to have and I'm sure that he shall also be a perfect husband and a loving and caring father. He is definitely the most eligible person as the crown prince and the rightful heir to the Shishodiya throne. Thank you BR for giving me such a 'gem of a son'. Now I'm assured that the future of the Shishodiya Kingdom is in safe and trustworthy hands. I can now retire in peace and look forward to spending some quality time with my grandchildren without any worries."

BR was very delighted to hear this and her face brightened up even more. Ridhima remembered that she had to give BR a syrup before leaving so she had come back but when she was about to knock the door and seek permission to enter she heard RS speaking about kunwar Armaan and she was overjoyed. She felt very elated, she felt as though she was being praised. She felt very proud and her heart was filled with ample respect for him. She was extremely happy for him. This was another laurel for him, one more feather in his cap. She was so excited about it that she forgot all about BR and her medicine. She started walking towards her room unconsciously, not looking where she was going.

Armaan checked his watch it was 15 minutes before he was due to meet RS. He decided to go and meet BR till then. He was walking through the corridors when he suddenly remembered about Muskan. Her behavior last night did not go well with Armaan. He didn't approve of such unruly and indecent behavior. He couldn't help but compare her with the riverside girl. These two girls were total opposites of each other. On one hand was princess Muskan who was vain, arrogant and full of attitude. On the other, was the riverside girl, a sweet, humble and a down-to-earth gal, just like an angel. Muskan, who despite being from a Royal family lacked all etiquettes and manners and Ridhima who despite being a commoner was the epitome of modesty and decency. Muskan was beautiful because of her expensive clothes, jewellery and accessories, whereas his riverside Princess was beautiful because of her simplicity and innocence. He let out an exasperated sigh. How would he find that riverside beauty, especially when he didn't even know her name? At first when he had learnt that she loved him, he was extremely jubilant. His joy and happiness knew no bounds. But then the thought of Muskan had brought him crashing back to reality. He was heartbroken and felt extremely desolate. Soon he would be engaged to Muskan and then he would be confined to that relationship. His trip to the village yesterday with Abhimanyu hadn't been fruitful. Despite spending the whole day in the village and going to all the places where she could possibly be, hadn't done any good. They had been unsuccessful in finding her. Time was just flying away. If he really wanted her in his life, then he would have to think of something solid. He continued to walk lost in his thoughts. He entered the corridor that led to BR's room and on the other hand, Ridhima too was walking in the same corridor all excited. She too was not paying attention to where she was going.
