wow what a part diya is so sweet

Sitting surrounded by all the greens and red vegetables that were in my house,I could not wonder at being called a freak.The refrigator door was wide open and empty as though calling me to organise it.I picked up the the packet of beans and put in the vegetable cabinet.The cumcumbers were next in line...no wait...carrots.

CA comes before Cu.Cursing myself I diligently sorted through the neatly tied packs.It was pathetically ironic that I was resorting to measures which screamed COMPULSIVE to forget one's outburst calling me the same.

I swallowed hard.I couldnt let myself cry.I couldnt let my mother see my tears and face her questions.Vaguely I wished Gunjan was here.She had called this morning but since Ma was near I couldnt bring about Mayank.She had sounded upset too.My hyperactive mind suddenly filled with worry about my little sister.What could possibly be wrong?Could her boss be ...
DRING!The loud ring startled me.I closed the fridge door and wiped my hands in the apron.I had reached the door when I saw Ma had beat me to it.She opened the door with a very assured
"Yes?"which turned into a O of astonishment.I peeked in from behind the door and gasped.Mayank was standing in the doorway,dressed in a striped white shirt,looking somewhere between nervous and sheepish.That was all I could manage to see as my treachorous heart had started racing.I closed my eyes resting my head in the wall.
Why was he here?Maybe Diya had told him about me...told him that I was compulsive.I curled my hands into fists fighting the near hysteria threathening me.No!I couldnt face his pity.
The overflow of emotions was very near to inducing a anxiety attack when Mom started speaking and I noticed a problem that didnt occur to me before.

Standing at Nupur's step was probably one of the hardest thing Mayank had ever done.Saying sorry was not his forte and saying sorry in the filmy way was a definately not.All in all he felt like he was standing examination hall of advanced level Greek when he hadnt even read Greek in his highschool.
Quickly he ran over Diya's to-dos.
"This are all the movies you need to see.It has all SRK movies and do something borrow a line or two from DDLJ.Its Nupur's favourite."
He had done as she had instructedWatched painstrikingly every damn movie paying specific attention to oily-doily dialogues.But try as hard he can he couldnt imagine saying them.

Hence he stood tongue-tied and unsure as a lady opened the door.There was a minute of silence in she looked at him from head to toe and then gasped,her mouth in a perfect O.
"OH MY GOD!YOU ARE...you are..you are..."
Mayank was jolted from his preoccupation.He couldnt imagine what could cause the lady to exclaim the way she was.Had he forgotten to wear his trousers or something.?He looked down to check he was properly clad as the lady kept on gushing.
"You are ...you are,arent you?"
"What?"he asked.
Thankfully at the moment Nupur decided to intervene.
"Mayank...You are Mayank."she said,nodding at her mom.
Mayank smiled unconsciously as he looked at her.Dressed in a blue apron and her hair tied back in a stern ponytail,she looked adorable.
"Hi nupur."he said in a voice which seemed to belong to someone else.
She coloured barely nodding.
"My mother-Devika Bhushan."she said softly.
"Namaste aunty."he said stepping in.
"You are-you are-you are so tall.Last time I saw you reached my shoulders."
He smiled.
"I was only 16 then.You have a really nice house Aunty."he said eyeing Nupur who was steadfastly staring at her hands.
"Its nice isnt it?My younger daughter Gunjan is so very good with such householdly stuff.She is the one who decorated the entire house.She is brilliant too,always a topgrade student.You must have met her at the party.I always tell people that anyone who marries Gunjan would be so lucky."
Mayank nodded,his eyes following Nupur as she went slowly to the kitchen.Apparently Devika was following his gaze.
"The garden too has been done by Gunjan.How she manages to do all the stuff I dont know.She has recieved distinction in her undergrad you know.She has done her undergrad in finance."
Mayank smiled duly impressed.
"She sounds delightful.What has Nupur done her studies in?"he asked.
Devika blew her hand as though squatting a fly.
"Fashion designing.I know its not a very academic subject but Nupur was never even in Gunjan's league.She is just not as good as Gunjan."
Mayank stopped smiling.Somehow the statement hurt,much more than it should.He could feel how the statement must have hurt Nupur though he couldnt see her face and curiously that made him angry with Devika.Not quite understanding the reason he said roughly.
"Fashion designing can be tough too.Academic achievement isnt the only means of measuring brilliance.If so we wont exactly call Rabindranath Tagore brilliant would we?"
NuPUR turned around to look at him.Devika opened her mouth and then closed it.Mayank smiled slowly at her.
"It is a nice day.I think I would like to see the garden Gunjan so lovingly did.Maybe you can come with me Nupur.Can she come aunty?"
"Of-ofcourse she can."

The anger was still there when Nupur and he reached the garden and he had started to question why it bothered him so much that he had even forgotten his purpose of coming to see her.
He stared at the neatly cut bushes before spatting out.
"Does she always act that way?"
Nupur seemed taken aback by the question.
"What way?"
"Like you are a supporting cast material.Its Gunjan this or Gunjan that.She seemed to have forgotten that you are also her daughter."he said without thinking.
A variety of emotions passed through her face before she answered.
"Its nothing like that.Gunjan is perfect so saying she is perfect is only fair and you have no right whatsoever to question it."
Mayank took a deep breath and said.
"I know I have no right but .."
"Why are you here mayank?"Nupur said.
That was a million dollar question!
