Part 8

They both kept the phone down. Mayank didn't reveal that he called nupur because he was missing her and wanted know if she got home safely. Nupur didn't reveal that she was really excited to talk to him. They both went to sleep thinking about their day today. For her it was a simple yet beautiful, and enjoyable day. For him it was also a simple, but a beautiful and enjoyable day. Mayank never had this much fun before with a person. He never enjoyed so much like he did today. With her he felt complete, he liked sharing his thoughts with her. Nupur always had gunjan to share her feelings with, but today it seemed she found someone else too. She didn't have so much fun arguing with someone, that too on purpose. They both had a cute smile on their faces as they slept lost in each other's thoughts.

The next day Nupur met up with mayank and they reviewed their study guide. When they were done they quizzed each other. As usual Nupur always went off topic and mayank brought her back on track. They had their nok-jhoks during their review session, because Nupur ventured off into her dream house, dream man, dream car. Mayank listened to all of Nupur's dreams keenly, however he always brought himself back to reality as he became conscious of his surroundings by doing his nok-jhok part. For some reason he just wanted to listen to her blabber, but why????? Because as far as he knew he hated listening to people talking about meaningless stuff. But for some reason he was lost in her voice, in her essence, in her cuteness, in her innocence, in her passion for life. The day ended. Mayank and Nupur walked together until they reached college's main gate for exit.

M: So ready for the test?

N: (stopping with a slight nervous look) Sachi baato?

M: (nodding his head with approval looking into her innocent cute eyes that were so
captivating).

N: (looking into his eyes) mujhe bahut darr lag raha hai. Pata nahin kya hoga By God! Itna toh mein tumse milkar bhi nahin gabrahi jitna ab.

M: (catching Nupur's tumse, with a saddened expression) mujhse? (In a low tone, eyeing her) Toh kya mein itna scary hoon?

N: (thinking what's wrong with him, how can he even think that he is scary? Itna acha toh hai.) O fo mayank tum bhi na, tum toh bahut bahut bhaut hi acche ho (realizing wut she is saying and catching mayank's smile to himself). Mera matalab '.

M: (cornering Nupur, slowly walking towards her, with a grin) matalab?? (After few seconds still cornering her, asking for approval) Toh mein scary nahin hoon?

N: (seeing mayank slowly walking towards her, Nupur became nervous with so many feelings going thru her and shivers through her body, still unknown to the feelings she started developing for this guy. This guy with a cute smile and a charm to die for, he was completely different from guys she had met even the ones she connected with in films. He was so original, simple, frank, no bal chaal, he was him.) ummhhh'. Woh ' mein' mera'. Woh

M: (still walking toward her and looking for approval) woh kya?

Nupur's back hits a wall; she looks at what just happened. Then returns to see mayank just couple of inches away. Before she could react, she was lost. Lost in his eyes. He had his cutest smile on his face, yes that grin changed into a cute smile. Any girl would be going bonkers right now giving in to him, letting him dominate her feelings. But Nupur of course is Nupur, she was ready to fight him back. But for some reason she wanted him to dominate, but felt as if her deep hidden secrets were going to come out. Her real thoughts about him. Could it be so?

Mayank wanted to make Nupur feel nervous for some reason, just for fun. He knew that she meant the compliment in friendly way, but for some reason he wanted to make something of it, so with a grin he started cornering her. He never did this to any other girl, usually girls complimented him and he ignored them. But there was something, he was feeling different today. Slowly he was mesmerized by her innocent eyes that grin changed on his face into a cute smile. Nupur wasn't any other girl, she was Nupur. Unknown to his feelings he continued to corner her. He wanted to hear more from Nupur, her thoughts about himself; he walked slowly towards her until she hit the wall.
They both felt each other's warmth and were lost in each other's aroma for a bit. Until Nupur became conscious of her surroundings.

N: (coming out of the dazed state) may '. (questioned look) mayank tum mujhe darne ki koshish kar rahe ho?

M: (Coming back to his senses) ummhh '. Nahin, tume koun darra sakta hai? Tum to sabko darra do.

N: (pointing her finger at him) Dekho mayank '

M: (raising his eyebrows) kya?

CJ: (Mayank's friend) hey mayank, tum relationship mein kab se ho? Mujhe toh bata dete.

Hearing a sudden question coming from behind Mayank and Nupur jerked and turned to find CJ standing there with her what's happening look.

M: (slightly nervous as if someone read his feelings) oh hi CJ!

CJ: (looking at Nupur and than at mayank) hi.

M: (catching CJ's expression of wanting to know who is nupur) ummmh this is Nupur. Hamari he class mein hai. Par tumhe toh bunking se waqt miley toh pata chalega. Right?

CJ: oh well catch u later dude.

N: (inquisitively looking at mayank) ummh. Yeh kaun thi?

M: (looking at CJ walking away) CJ, hamesha second aati hai.

N: oh toh tumhari strong competitor hai. (To herself) kitne padku hai is college mein.
No fun! No masti!

M: (overhearing her thoughts but ignoring them with a smile cuz he knows nupur by now) By the way hai nahin --- thi.

N: thi?

M: (turning toward nupur) ab tum jo ho.

N: (in a disbelief laugh) mein aur tumhari competitor?

M: (seriously) yup aur woh bhi sabse kahtarnak, mera intuition galt nahin ho sakta.

N: (in disbelief) accha!, mayank tum theek toh ho na. Meri life films se shuru hoti hai
aur magazines, lifestyles, celebrities around hi ghumti hai. Okay? Studies mein nupur
bushan ko mazaaa nahin aata by god!

M: Toh phir tum test ke liye study kyoun kar rahi ho? Itni mehnat kyoun kar rahi ho?

N: (dreamingly in a serious tone) woh actually papa ko disappoint nahin kar na hai, unke sapno ko waste nahin hone dongi.

M: exactly.

N: kya exactly?

M: tumhare pass maksaad hai, papa ki khushi --- rite?

N: ummh yeah, toh is mein galat kya hai?

M: kuch galat nahin hai, par if you have a maksaad, laksya, target than no one can stop that person from achieving it and that is why u r my biggest competitor.

N: iska matlab tumhara bhi koi maksaad hai isiliye tum hamesha 1st ate ho.

M: hain.

N: toh baato kya maaksaad hai tumhara? (laughingly to herself, but mayank heard)
duniya ke Einstein ban na?

M: (angered)ji nahin! Tum rahne do. Tumse toh baat karna bekaar hai.

N: (holding her ears) I am sorry mayank. Woh actually na mujhe itni samajdhari wali baatein thodi boring lagti hai, toh mein fizul ki baatein karti rahti hoon. Sorry! Mujhe maaf kar do (with a cute smile). (After receiving an apology accepted look) Toh baato na tumhara laksya kya hai?

Mayank for a second couldn't help it but adore her cute ear holding gesture, she is so cute! He thought. Soon after ear holding came her cute c smile followed by a sorry. His heart genuinely smiled. Her smile is so addictive, he thought, who wouldn't melt and forgive this stupid c, pagal c, but pyaari c ladki.

M: (lovingly/angrily with his finger pointed to nupur) nupur yeh natak baand karo.

N: (with her mouth wide open, with a how impossible is this guy look) natak? Toh mein
natak kar rahi ho? Dil se sorry bolo toh natak, lekin hawa mein dialogue bolo toh gussa. Hey bhagwan! Yeh kaisa insaaf hai.

M: N-U-P-U-R!

N: By god mayank tum na, ab khush hone ka kaya loge tum? Itne muhaaware maare aur tum gusse mein aur bhi laal ho gaye ho. Insaan ho ya gusse ki dukan. Sorry bola na.

M: (angrily) Bye!

N: arre aise kaise? Mujhe apna maaksaad toh baato. Mein bhi toh dekhoon mera biggest competitor kiski khushi chahata hai?

M: (walking away, not facing her) mein jaa raha hoon, tum rehne do.

N: (yelling at mayank from his behind) Mayank woh maa ki khuhsi hai na?
Mayank stopped when he heard nupur say maa. He turned to look at her. They caught each other's eyes. Mayank crossed his arms and rested them on his chest looking at nupur admiringly with a smile. While Nupur placed her hands on her hips when mayank turned as if she is telling him that I knew it all long Mr. Monkey! I was just spicing up the conversation. Akhir mein Nupur hoon. Mera saath mazaa nahin aya toh mein Nupur kaise huyi. They both looked at each from a distance with smiles on their faces and turned in opposite directions. Mayank looked back and saw Nupur walking away. Nupur looked back and saw Mayank walking away. They both caught each other's eyes again and gestured bye for the day.

Both were in their beds with notes on their laps. So many feelings were going through both of them as they were getting ready for the test tomorrow. More than the notes they were indulged in each other thoughts. Nupur thought even though he is studious, boring, sadu, monkey na jaane kya kya, totally unlike me, but he has this charm to him --- his simplicity. He just speaks his mind and brings me back down to earth! At this thought Nupur smiled to herself. But you know Nupur teri bolti toh mayank hi baand kar sakta hai! By God. Ms. Bushan kuch toh baat hai us akdu mayank mein. Nupur spoke out loud, "tabhi toh mera dost hai!"

G: (hearing Nupur) kaun di?

N: (Oopies look) woh ummh meri kitaab.

G: (o okay look) Good night di!

N: Good night Gunjan!

On the other hand Mayank kept on thinking about today just like Nupur thought about Mayank. He couldn't deny the fact that he just loves it when he hangs around Nupur. She lightens the atmosphere so much that all the tension, practicality, dryness, dullness, reasonableness ---- just anything that is too serious or anything that makes life boring just vanishes. She fills the deepest cavity with joy. She makes me want to enjoy. He smiled at his thoughts. At his room's door his mom was watching him, smiling and totally dazed.

MM: kiske baare mein soch rahe ho mayu?

M: Nupur

MM: oh NUPUR!

M: (coming back to his senses) mera matlab Nupur ki baatein, I mean uski smile, I
mean '' woh '. Mera matlab '.. ummmhh'.

MM: a! ha! Nupur ki Baatein, uski SMILE, aur kuch??? Bolo, bolo mein sun rahi hoon beta.

M: mera matalab woh nahin jo aap samaj rahi ho.

MM: (coming to sit next to him) mein kya samaj rahi hoon??

M: maa aap na! (placing his head in her lap) mein toh bas yahi soch raha tha '. (after a small pause) ke nupur mujhe se kitni alag hai. Bilkul opposite. Par phir bhi woh thode hi dino mein meri kitni achi friend ban gayi. Uski baatein toh wohi jaane par mujhe uske saath rah kar baada mazza ata hai. Aise kaise maa?? Isn't it strange? I mean aaj kal mayank ki bhi koi achi friend hai.

MM: (placing her hand with motherly love on his shoulder) strange nahin beta. Yeh teri destiny hai. Kitne bhi door ho, jinko milna hota hai woh mil hi jaata hai chahe jitney bhi alag kyoun na ho. Ab chal so ja kal test hai na. (Started leave).

M: (looking at his mom) Good night maa!

MM: (about to touch mayank's hair but he jerked back) Good night beta.
Mayank's mother came out his room. She had a huge smile on her face. She couldn't believe it! She knew her son was in love! The way he talked about nupur, she just couldn't believe her son was discovering his feelings that she thought will never be disturbed by anyone.
