@nj: Yeah, I know...the last few parts had been so much in Armaan's POV, that I thought of bringing about a change 😛...I know, but I it is confirmed, they are getting a dicorce. I do believe it to be true, though there is a small part of me that wishes Karan would come out and say that he is innocent and actually explain what has happened. But the fact he hasn't up till now, isn't really helping. I know, even I didn't feel like it was my best when I had finished the part, but I just wasn't motivated enough. But I can assure you that the part which has the New Year's party is going to be a hell lot better...though you would have to wait for a few parts for that😳 Thanks for commenting nj!

@Robin: Yup, I had been sick, had nothing to do so I managed to finish that part earlier. I was waiting for someone to catch up on that!😃😆 What can I say, I absolutely love people hanging around, making their own possibilities, and then giving them the real dela😛 Anything could happen...it could affect in the positive, or the negative...you just have to wait and see😳😛 I will be continuing soon...and yes, I do believe it is true about Karan and Shraddha.

Here is the next part, guys!

Part 31

Armaan had a bounce to his step as he came into the hospital, holding the door for Nikki, his eyes immediately scanned the halls to see if Ridhima was there somewhere.

Nikki eyed him suspiciously, but didn't say anything, and Armaan appreciated her for it…Nikki was using him for her purposes, and he was to some extent using her for his.

Walking into the locker room, he was somewhat disappointed to see that Ridhima had yet to arrive.

Sighing dejectedly, Armaan put his lab coat in his locker and started sorting through things.

Atul came in a while later, and greeted them cheerfully with a song. Armaan hi-fived him and went through his file to make sure everything was perfect for Rajeev's surgery scheduled later.

Looking at the contents, his eyes halted on the last word, his shoulders tensed and his eyes momentarily closed. That scent was near him again…the vanilla-ish scent, the one that always made Armaan's head foggy, and made all reason leave his head.

His head snapped up and he saw Ridhima passing him, going towards her locker. His eyes darted towards Nikki who was rummaging through her locker, cursing under her breath, her head practically inside her locker.

He smirked, and immediately rushed towards Nikki, putting a hand on the locker beside hers; he leant into his arm, and gave Nikki a dazzling smile.

He saw Nikki stop what she was doing, and look at him with a raised eyebrow. Some of her hair was disheveled because her head was inside her locker a few moments ago.

He ignored her look, and looked up for a second to see Ridhima glancing at them from the corner of her eye, trying not to be conspicuous.

Leaning forward, he looked at Nikki who looked baffled, and whispered in her ear,

"How you doin'?"

Please play along, please play along, please play along Armaan pleaded in his head, though his face was void of any such insistent thoughts.

Nikki's eyes widened for a second, before she formed a face and eventually settled on narrowing her eyes at him.

"Seriously Armaan, are you trying to be Joey or something? Because I can tell you right now, you are no where even as hot as him…or as cool as him" She said, before turning back towards her locker and sticking her head in, rummaging through it.

Armaan's mouth dropped open, and his eyes darted around the room to see Atul and Muskaan cracking up, Anjali smirking, Rahul shaking his head in amusement and Ridhima laughing quietly facing her locker.

"Not as hot as him? Hell, I am a thousand times better than him!" Armaan exclaimed.

Nikki's face emerged from the locker once more, and looked at him with a raised eyebrow.

She smiled sweetly at him, and patted his cheek,

"Sure baby, sure" Nikki said, trying her best not to laugh.

In his peripheral vision he could swear he saw Ridhima's shoulders immediately stop shaking from laughter, and tense.

SCORE!

A smirk formed on his face once more and he completely forgot about Nikki making fun of him a few moments ago.

"Knew it, babe" He said back to her, and he saw a flash of confusion on her face, though she didn't say anything, and once again he was thankful for that.

She just gave him a look, and poked her head back in her locker. He chanced another look at Ridhima and saw that she had already gathered her things and was heading towards the nurse station.

Rahul and Muskaan joined her, and Armaan sighed deciding to wait for Nikki, they had to keep the act up for Ridhima to believe they were together, even though Nikki was oblivious to the plan Armaan had sought in his mind.

The whole day had been tiresome, very, very tiresome. Ridhima had assisted in three surgeries, and had to watch another five, taking notes. If she wasn't in a surgery she was with her patients or doing rounds in the General Ward.

Ridhima sighed as she looked at the last patient she had to see for the day and then she would be off to home, to soak up in her warm bath, read a book and slip into her warm bed.

Ridhima gave a sigh of contentment and a small smile appeared at her lips.

The thought in itself was so appealing that Ridhima couldn't wait to get home and actually put it in action.

Ridhima reached Rajeev's room, knocked briefly and opened the door.

Rajeev was lying on the bed looking outside the window and didn't do anything to acknowledge her presence.

Ridhima cautiously walked towards the side-table and took out the blood-pressure machine from the cabinet below it.

Putting it on the table, Ridhima strapped it around his arm and took his blood pressure. Everything was so quiet. Ridhima was used to making conversation with her patients, getting to know them personally because general knowledge could only get you so far, but sometimes knowing your patients personally helped you professionally as well because you tended to make better choices for them.

Ridhima looked around, and her eyes fell on a picture on the table, right next to the machine.

She looked at Rajeev and saw he was still gazing out of the window, she gingerly picked up the picture and gazed at it. A small girl had her hands wrapped around a big multi-colored ball and was grinning widely at the camera. Her hair was open and was flying with the wind, she wore red shorts with a white singlet. Next to her was a man who was crouching down next to her, had his arms wrapped around the little girl and was gazing at the camera with love and happiness shining in his eyes. Ridhima realized that this man was none other than Rajeev Malhotra.

Ridhima's eyes widened and she saw that Rajeev still hadn't moved from his position. She looked back at the picture and instinctively a small smile came on her lips, the girl was cute and her smile, even from the photograph, was infectious.

"Your daughter?" She asked, and looked up at Rajeev, a smile still on her lips.

Rajeev's head snapped towards her and his eyes went towards the photo still in her hands.

He nodded, and took the picture from her. Ridhima's smile faltered and she went back to her work.

He had a daughter? That meant he had a family, but not even once had Ridhima seen anyone come to visit him. She looked up and saw that Rajeev was looking at the photo with a sad expression.

Ridhima frowned slightly, and noted his blood pressure down; she took his pulse and noted that down too.

It was while she was checking his breathing that he spoke,

"Rhea. Her name is Rhea" He whispered. Ridhima's head snapped up when she heard him speak, but didn't say anything back.

"Rhea Malhotra" He said with a smile, his eyes still on the photograph, tears were in his eyes.

"It's a beautiful name" Ridhima said. It seemed to fit the girl perfectly, and Ridhima wondered what had happened that caused Rajeev so much pain.

"Arprita named her. I wanted to name her Rani" He said with a smile.

Ridhima let out a giggle, and immediately her hand went towards her mouth to stop the laugh from escaping her.

He looked at her with an amused expression and said, "that was the exact reaction Arprita had". He chuckled and Ridhima laughed a little.

Who knew she would be having a civil conversation with Rajeev, if anyone would have told her that Rajeev was indeed a genuine person she would have given them an incredulous expression and told them they were mad and didn't know the real him.

Not that she was claiming to knowing the real him, but it was a nice change to see this different side of him.

"She's beautiful" Ridhima said as her eyes went towards the photograph again.

"Thank you, she has gone completely on her mother." Rajeev said gazing adoringly at the picture once again.

"Where is she?" Ridhima blurted out, and instinctively bit her tongue. Why couldn't she have asked it in different words?

She saw as Rajeev's face contorted to one of pain before anger set in. He ignored her and gazed out of the window again. He folded the picture, and held it in his hand, completely ignoring Ridhima.

Ridhima went back to her work and did not utter a word after that, she knew that what she had asked had been very insensitive, and she should apologize, but Ridhima wasn't sure where to begin.

Putting the file back in its place, Ridhima walked out of the room, ready to go back home.

It was while she was putting her stuff away in her locker, and fantasizing about the blissful and relaxing night she had planned for herself, that Nikki came looking for her.

"Ridhima! Wahaan ho tum, aur meing tumhe saare taraf dhoondh rahi hoon!" Nikki exclaimed.

Ridhima looked up and saw Nikki coming towards her with her hands on her hips.

"Huh?" Ridhima asked confused.

"C'mon, let's go! Everyone's waiting for you!" Nikki said as she tugged on Ridhima's arm. Bewildered, Ridhima said,

"What? Why?"

"Please tell me you didn't forget…arey baba we have to go shopping for the New Year's party!" Nikki said, excitement lit on her face.

That is when Ridhima remembered, the text Nikki had sent to everyone. Shit! It was today. Ridhima groaned, there went all her plans of having a relaxing night. Most probably she was going to be up on her feet for another 2 hours. Just the thought of it had Ridhima irritated, and she was so tempted to whine and plead her way out of this situation. But Ridhima knew that she needed something to wear for that night, so she gave up and silently bid goodbye to her previous plans. It wasn't everyday that you got free time in the evening to do what you pleased. And today, Ridhima's free time was going to be spent shopping. Fun.

"Fine, let's go" Ridhima groaned as she followed Nikki towards everyone else.

Ridhima had been sitting on the chairs in the store for the past five minutes, folding her arms over her chest and sulking. She had spent the past 40 minutes looking at different dresses and jewelry, and was never happy with anything. Eventually, she decided to go and sit down before she lashed out at anyone. She wanted to go home and enjoy her free night, but here she was stuck with Nikki, her sister and Muskaan as they made her try one dress after the other.

"Ridzi, yeh kaise lagegi?" Muskaan said as she put a blue dress against her, which slowly faded into white and then green, against her, looking at her inquiringly.

"I think-" Ridhima started

"Amazing, na? I knew it!" Muskaan squealed as she rushed into the change rooms.

Ridhima sighed and leaned back into her chair, once again folding her arms over her chest and sulking.

"Ridzi, what do you think?" Anjali said as she put the dress against her and glanced at herself in the mirror beside her.

The dress was to say, absolutely stunning. It was gold with a very deep neck, tight just below the chest and flew out afterwards. Ridhima scrunched up her nose, and then said,

"Too deep, di..papa would never let you go out of the house wearing that…ever." Ridhima said seriously.

Anjali also looked at her reflection, and then sighed dejected, "you're right, damn, that dress was so pretty!" Anjali muttered as she went to put it back. Ridhima sighed and ran a hand through her hair, looking at her watch she realized that it was 8:30 and she had already been here for an hour. Groaning once again, she slumped back further into her chair, and looked towards everyone in the shop.

"RIDHIIMA! I HAVE FOUND THE PERFECT DRESS FOR YOU!" someone shouted, and it was all it took for Ridhima to not jump and gasp out loud. Shaking her head, she looked around to see who had called out to her, and saw Nikki jogging towards her, a wicked smile on her face. Ridhima's eyebrows rose and she looked at her suspiciously,

"What is it?" Ridhima asked hesitantly.

"You are going to LOVE it!" Nikki exclaimed as a few customers passed her dirty looks for scaring them earlier.

Ridhima followed her deeper into the shop and saw the dress Nikki held out to her.

"I am not too sure" Ridhima said as she took in the dress, it was a nice long red dress, quite simple, with just a small silver pin at the side which held most of it together. It was actually very beautiful, Ridhima thought as her eyes raked over the dress once more, and immediately she thought over Armaan's reaction. The last time she had worn a dress had been when she had dressed up for the salsa. Her cheeks immediately flamed up a bit as she thought back to then.

"Why not Ridhima, it's such a nice dress, and you are going to look amazing!" Nikki said as she held it closer to Ridhima, as though that would get her to change her mind.

"Can't I just wear a nice suit?" Ridhima asked as she looked at her pleadingly. But Nikki shook her head quickly, and said, "Ridzi, remember we are trying to not be ourselves for that night. We are going to make it hard for the guys to recognize us!" She said as she held her dress in the other hand.

Ridhima looked towards it, and could easily visualize Nikki wearing the dress.

Defeated, Ridhima nodded and went towards the change room to try it on. The soon she did this, the sooner they got home, right? And the sooner she could go to sleep.

So finally here it is...been having exams lately, so managed to scrape this part out...hope you all like it...doesn't have much romance, more of humour and friendship, and a tiny glimpse of Rajeev.

Remember the part where he took out a picture from his wallet and said, "I will do anything for my daughter, I am sorry Dr. Armaan Mallik"? So here I put in another glimpse of his daughter. More of Rajeev is going to come later, and already warning you, this story is going to get a bit darker as it goes on, though I will try and keep it to a minimal. Thanks for all your support!
