Is there one good reason why we or anyone else should stick to a story that has gotten 3 to 13 times in size? That means at the very least 66.66% of it is interpolation.

Sure, we can consider the human staking an interpolation. Problem is that makes the Pandavas look even worse😆. Why were they sitting on their hands then, when Pancho was being assaulted? Not that I agree with the original reason. But if human staking was an interpolation, they had NO reason not to react.

Or is it that the assault itself did not happen?

In which case the Pandavas and Govind went to war for land and land only. And that too, after Yudhi lost it gambling. What then made him deserving of an empire?

Sema, thanks for the support.

Maybe sometimes we should just take things as they are and talk about them... If Drau insulted Karns or some X,Y and Z has added it later is s different question. It is written in the epic and we can discuss what we think of the statement..
Can we claim Geeta Gyan is 100% true? Swami Vivekananda himself said standing on a battlefield one can't give Geeta gyan. But he also said that a person saying these things to another person itself is treasure. So what is the point is knowing if it is said by Keshav or is it added by somebody like you or me or if it by Shakuni or if it is something else. It is out own epic, our own Geeta. That's all...

Anu Di I just said that in a previous post.. Ofcourse it had increased and many things are added later but the main story is that even if you and I do not accept. What is the problem is taking it as a story and analysing it rather than to say this is not correct that is not there is what I tried to say... Ofcourse people will disagree with me.. I have to take that.

Regarding human staking, I think Semanti was being sarcastic and meant to say even she can pick things which make her favourite look bad and call it I terpolation but it will not change anything... 😆

As for me, the story of MB is a story as it is. What is Interpolation what not CANNOT be claimed for sure.

Brishti, Geeta gyan is spread everywhere in the epic story. You need a heart to feel that knowledge from the given storyline. I have discovered some parts already. So yes, Krishna did not need to tell Geeta at battle field, His activities and words could speak for it. Krishna's entire life was a collection of Geeta lessons. Arjun must have learned from His life only. But important thing is, we have to learn moral values from our sacred text Mahabharat. It's not a modern novel or movie just to enjoy and forget.

And as the size increased later, everybody can choose own favourite portions only and built own epic then. I would like to delete some parts as well 😆 what happens to the storyline then, well who cares!! Who is more important for me, my favourites or the old story written by old people? Of course, my favourite 😳

Well I think just as we cannot claim what is interpolation, we cannot claim what the original story is either. Interpolations are usually claimed when there is no valid before or after, not just events we don't like. The story we currently have is very pro Pandava. I strongly believe in the fact that its the winners who write history.

Many people on the forum seem to claim what vyasa said is not this and what he meant was that. Surely we don't know. And just bcoz many don't agree with the accepted versions, does not mean that we lack the understaning or we don't know how to pick the moral values underlying in the epic

Brishti...I agree with u are saying...But not everyone sees the epic in the same manner...
It is a fact that we dont know wat happened then...n Ved Vyas' text is the closest we can get to the truth...

But through years of studying, if scholars see that some parts are indeed not matching with other parts of the epic, then y not consider that as an interpolation? Especially, when characters are being bashed again n again for it?

Since u raised the Sutaputra example...let us see it that way...Karna fans n Draupadi fans can argue all the way to heaven or hell as to who was more correct...but we would never agree n never come to a conclusion...
And y do I think it is an interpolation?

Because...
It is not part of a researched work like BORI...

Karna never mentions being insulted by her...

Noone ever mentions this incident ever...

It is unlikely to me that a learned man like Karna would invite trouble after Rangbhoomi debacle...n it is also unlikely that he would not win...

This interpolation also explains y Draupadi was not very vocal at her division...Maybe her forthright nature grew with age n experiences...Bcoz Draupadi generally did not lash out at people unless she was attacked or assaulted...

After Swamvar, Karna does say a few words in favour of her after returning to Hastinapur...Although it wasca general statement, and not exactly praise...if he had really been insulted that way, I dont think he would have had the heart to say those words...please correct me if I am wrong.

Similarly, there are many other reasons for which other incidents can also be considered interpolations...
Considering watever doesnt suit us to be interpolation is unfair...but when logic can be provided...then y not?

The story line is at least 66.6% distorted. At a max, it is 92% distorted. If the verses went from anywhere between 8K to 24K originally to 100K now, that is.

And how do you qualify someone as authentic? 5K years back Vyasa and Suka could have claimed authenticity. After that who can claim anything? Are people who lived 2K years back during the Gupta era (I think) any more believable than the ones who lived 1000 years back? Why?

The crux of the story is there were 2 sets of cousins at war. One set met/married a beautiful princess and got a bonanza in dowry😆. They formed political alliance with princess's buddy and her father. They lost the kingdom to their cousins gambling. They fought a war to get it back.

I think that much every MB reader in the world can agree on.

BTW Amrita, from what I can see, Panchali may have been mid teens when she came to Drupad's family but she was there for a few years before the SV. Hardly a child.
And character traits start showing in teens. If she was silent it was because 1) she had some aim in mind 2) she was edited. Satya Chaitanya's article from Boloji says she was edited.
