Just adding to it. though am not sure.. there are chances that Karna learned something from Drona after he was made King of Anga.. just like practice sessions.. and yah the sudden disappearance of Karna from Drona's school is confusing

Loved the definition of Dharmi and Adharmi😆

Why couldn't Durvasa have been Panchali's daddy? Imagine the delicious melodrama. What if he found out after DS/VH? 😈 That explains why he promised not to kill at least 4, not for Kunti😆

Then at the final confrontation Krishna (who also knows the truth) rubs salt in the wound by bringing up Panchali persistently. 😆

Even Ekta Mata cannot make up such incredible sob stories😆

BTW, Vyasa and Narada were actually titles. Durvasa was not a Chiranjeevi. I don't think it was a title either. Either the name Durvasa got handed down or it was a moniker given to hot tempered sages.

@Diala - I think Drona had nothing new to teach him more than what did Rama teach. Drona also was Rama's student. It is possible that after becoming King, Karna continued practising under Drona because he naturally had to pracise whatever he learnt, in order to keep himself sharp always & he needed someone just to keep an eye on him. So practising under Drona is very much possible.

@Anu - wah! You have a lot of chances in hindi serials. That also explains why Draupadi dedicated a special cry in the end, exclusively for Karna, while she was complaining to G in Kamyaka vana. I had been thinking that all men laughed there in DS & she found only Karna's laugh worthy of her teardrops; why? So your theory explains that better.😉... See, even Govind failed to spill the beans from Karna's mouth.😆

@ diala,
If Karna was never a student of drona, then why did he have to lie to parshurama that he was a Brahman. Rama was against teaching Kshatriyas and Karna was not a Kshatriya. He could have said he was a suta
The reason given everywhere is that drona refused him brahma shira because he would only give to a Brahmin or an exceptional Kshatriyas

Also in rangabhoomi duryodhan crowns Karna king of Anga, if it's a coincidence it's strange since if duryodhan and Karna have not met in dronas gurukul, dury cannot know Karna is from Anga, because he does not introduce himself. So how come he ends being the king of country he is from,

Also everyone recognizes Adiratha in rangabhoomi, including bhima, without any introduction so they would have seen his father often in the palace as dhritarashtras charioteer

Could it be that adhiratha when he was in anga had an ordinary teacher for Karna who taught him when he was young, and when he becomes 18/20 they come to HP where Adiratha gets a job as dhrits charioteer, and drona has established his school by then in HP where Karna enrolled for higher education and then later with parshurama

Like, he must have done his education up to graduation in Anga and post graduation with drona and Phd with parshurama as drona refuses to take him as doctoral student

Whereas pandavas also reached HP only by the time yudhi was 16 and Arjun 14 so they had their schooling in the forest, did their 10 th - 12 th and graduation / PG in HP with drona, where only Ashwi and Arjun did their PHd with drona. Bhima and duryodhan had gone to balarama for their PHd in mace fighting, not necessarily at the same time

And not all the students of drona, including rest of Ps and Ks opted for or deserved a Phd,

What do you think...

Also Karna cannot be 16 years older to yudhi. Kunti could not have been more than 16 - 18 when she married pandu, she had a swayamvar, and in those era girls used to be married by 14.

KUntis timeline

She got pregnant by 13 (biologically earlier pregnancy seems improbable) delivered Karna Within a year

Got married to pandu when 16/18. He left for digvijaya immediately after marriage came back 2 years later with Madri, Kunti was 18 / 20

They all went to forest on a holiday, kindam rishi died, pandu went on exile

Kunti had yudhi not more than 2 years later. Conceived one year after exile at age 21/23..
They spent 14 years in forest after Arjun birth, as pandu died on Arjun 14 birthday .

Therefor when yudhi was born Karna must be 8 - 10 years older than yudhi. I think 8 years is more apt.

So when he came to drona yudhi must be 17 , Arjun. 15 and he must be 25

I know I will be pounced on for this. Doubters (you know who you are, Sabhayata and Jamy😆), eat your words.

You wanted evidence of the foreign influence G was trying to avoid by uniting Aryavarta? Here you go.

The CHINESE fought with Bhagdatta in KK (seems that may have been the first Indo China war 😆)

And apparently, Arjun passed through China during the first imperial campaign

Bhagdatta was from current day Assam? So Chitrangahda's Kingdom was neighbouring his?

The article also mentions the P's crossing into China in the Vanaparva, trekking through the Himalayas. They walked all that way with Panchali? I was under the assumption that they were roaming around in the forests, not crossing aryavarta borders.

@Adishakti - It can also be proved that Parashurama's curse itself is another interpolation. See, it is unlikely that any person born in Bhrigu's line would have been partial to anyone seeking knowledge. There is a whole section in Shanti Parva, a conversation between Bhrigu & Bharadwaja, regarding the distorted caste system, how bad is that idea and how can a person born even in a low caste is as eligible for education as someone born in a higher caste. So we cannot conclude the Bhargavas followed categorising people based on caste. Drona's case was different in spite of being a Bharadwaja. He must have changed his mentality after being insulted by Drupada. Also, Parashurama was Guru of Bheeshma. Same Parashurama had already accepted the lordship of Shree Rama also. This indicates Rama was never someone who judged a book only by its cover. Hence, we cannot conclude Parashurama taught only Brahmanas.
No one recognised Karna in Rangabhoomi. The below is what happened when Karna entered the arena.
Vaisampayana continued, 'When the spectators, with eyes expanded with wonder, made way for that subjugator of hostile cities, Karna, that hero with his natural mail and face brightened with ear-rings, took up his bow and girded on his sword, and then entered the spacious lists, like a walking cliff. That far-famed destroyer of hostile hosts, the large-eyed Karna, was born of Pritha inher maidenhood. He was a portion of the hot-beamed Sun and his energy and prowess were like unto those of the lion, or the bull, or the leader of a herd of elephants. In splendour he resembled the Sun, in loveliness the Moon, and inenergy the fire. Begotten by the Sun himself, he was tall in stature like a golden palm tree, and, endued with the vigour of youth, he was capable of slaying a lion. Handsome in features, he was possessed of countless accomplishments. The mighty-armed warrior, eyeing all around the arena, bowed indifferently to Drona and Kripa. And the entire assembly, motionless and with steadfast gaze, thought, 'Who is he?' And they became agitated in their curiosity to know the warrior.(adi parva, chap 138)
It is clear beyond any doubt that no one knew Karna before. Also Karna bowing 'indifferently' to Drona & Kripa says he was nowhere their student. A student would never have bowed indifferently in front of his teachers. But Karna called Arjuna by name because Arjuna's name had already been announced in the assembly. Then Karna did everything Arjuna did. Duryodhana, sensing Karna was a tough question to Arjuna, suddenly went to welcome 'the new warrior'. It is unlikey that Duryodhana did not ask his name & Karna did not tell though it is not mentioned in the book because the very next moment Arjuna calls Karna by name. What followed that was Kunti fainting seeing her both sons getting ready to fight. Then Kripa asked for Karna's lineage, Karna stood in shame, Duryodhana announced him as Anga king seeing that. After Karna's coronation only, Adhiratha enters the scene & everyone came to know who Karna was. It was then Bheema insulted Karna, not before that.
Duryodhana made friendship with Karna to erase the threat of Arjuna. It is said in chapter 139. Also different regions of Anga were under different rulers. Karna alone was not the Anga King of his times. It is not clear that whether Karna was made the king of the same country where he grew up.
In page 80, I have tried my best to explain Karna's education. Please check that.

Wonderful article, Anu. I have no problem with the Chinese, but Yavanas. But don't tell Krishna planned KK war to prevent a Chinese invasion. I will argue Krishna was trying to destroy Kung fu & the Chinese were forced to react. But, yeah, Chinese invasion was possible then also. We still do face it. One thing I noted in it was Draupadi crossing himalaya twice during the exile. And the same Draupadi fell & died in the same mountains. Doubtful. May be because she was too lod to walk steady.

Hi ! I still can't digest the fact that Dharmaraj Yudishtir was left scot free by Draupadi herself for putting Draupadi as a property in their game... Forget loosing her, putting her on the stakes itself is a grave crime!
