Suryodhan/Duryodhan; since he was a baby.. he was considerd abshugun..(the downfall of the Kauravas)

but couldnt his parents guide him in a right path??

This is how that apashagun happened. Little Suyu was born, in the midnight of a full moon day. Stray dogs were howing. Some bearded blind fool (other than Dhrit) said Dogs are crying sensing evil & this child must be an evil. But every 'learned ' person believed it as it was easy to believe than making fools believe it was wrong. And little Suyu grew up seeing everyone calling him 'evil'. Until kunti aunty came with her five little babies, Suyu used to smile whenever someone called him evil. What did a little kid know about evil? He thought it was his nick name. But things changed that day when people began seeing natural fights between children as a sign of Suyu's evilness & they tried to alienate him than solving issues between kids. The little boy would have cried a lot, felt alone, felt no one understood his little heart & his little insecurities. And finally, when everyone called him evil, he decided to live the rest of his life as a real EVIL.
PS- that was only about little Suyu, not about grown up Dury. Evils are never born, but created. Dhrit was 'blind' & Gandhaari chose to be 'blind' as her hubby was blind. There were other elders too. Had Bheeshma & Vidura been true to their positions in HP & honestly tried their best to see kids only as kids, Suyu would never have been Dury.

One question I always had was about Gandhari's blindfold. Was it metaphorical for her wilful blindness towards the goings on the Kuru family?

I think there are citations of her planning to tie her eyes after her wedding. Again don't know if someone added that later on bcoz she was so blind to the events surrounding her.

I dont think so.. it is said that she blindfolded out of respect and affection to her husband.. and at that point there was no wrong as such in the Kuru kingdom..

The thing is, the original MB was supposed to be around 8K verses and the one we have now is 100K+. We have no hope of figuring out which was there originally and which is an interpolation😆
