I havent found an online copy of Indo version in English. But I have found some gems online (there is no other way to describe it😆)

Keep in mind that they have a ton of versions same as in India. There is the Kakawin, the Jawa and the puppet Jawa versions that I have heard about.

The best of the lot -

Bheem had to defeat Drupad's BIL Satyajit in a wrestling match / mace fight to get Panchali.

This Satyajit is the father of Satyabhama and Satyaki.

So by that version, Satyabhama is at least a first cousin of Panchali and Krishna is her brother by marriage. That may explain why Satyaki was defending Dhrisht so vociferously and was so pro war

It also explains the Panchali - Satyabhama friendship because I have been wondering when they ever met to become such bosom buddies that Satya actually asks her for secret potions to make Krishna obedient😆

Oh yeah, the biggie. There is a Satrajit in the Indian version who is Satyabhama's father and there is a Satyajit as well. This Satyajit is the son of Kanka, the daughter of Ugrasena and sister of Kansa and one of Vasudev's younger brothers Aanaka. Possibly the same Kanka mentioned in the Gingee dance performances as Panchali's birth place

Make what you will of all this😆

Ok so if we combine the indian and indo versions, i.e. if satyajit was the father of satyabhama so krishna married his niece i.e. satyabhama?

Well Krishna was the 8th son of Vasudeva and Devaki, so he presumably was much younger than Satyajit his cousin. Probably was more of an age with Satyabhama and Satyaki. And if first cousin marriages were OK, I assume, marrying first cousin's daughter is fine as well

This is a very lengthy excerpt from The Cult of Draupadi by Alf Helitbeitel. She is ever virgin in this and she has been said to be won by Vijayan / Kandapati (Arjuna) but her association in the temples seems to be with Dharma Raja (Yudhi). A similarity with the Indo version

The imagery that killed me was the idea of Panchali standing with her foot atop Dury's (or was it Dushy?) chest a la Kaali, while Krishna docilely stood behind her and braided her hair😆. And somehow I have Pooja and SRJ in my mind in that scene🤣

Thanks for that bit. I think the best way is to believe the version of the story you want to, or is the most simple one, the most popular facts. I hav decided to take evrything else as more knowledge. Other versions, perspectives, folktales etc. That is the fun of it. We learn so much from IF and these discussions. We can never decide for sure which one is true and what happened in Dwapar Yug with X Y and Z. So i think its best not to think and argue about what is true and enjoy learning about new versions and POVs. Right?

Now another huge arop I have on you guys. How unfair you guys are!!!! I wrote such a huge and nice Karna epi of Dk! None of u even complimented me 😭
