Pagal the hug was meant to be awkward becos it wasnt done with any romantic intentions!
He wasnt too sure himself but he felt that away frm home and in between so much pressure she needed some moral support & encouragement so he hugged her since he was not allowed to help her... that was very natural... we all do that with our friends!
