I am not a fan of any actor. I do not watch shows for actors, even those I like. I watch it only if the concept interests me.
I started watching Geet but gave up mid way when the story line veered far, far away from what it originally was! I watched a bit of Madhubala, because the Bollywood backdrop seemed interesting and I was keen to see what Drashti would do with such a character. I gave up after just a few episodes because it simply did not hold my interest.
I have never seen any show of Siddhant Karnick. Got to see bits and pieces only after watching this show.
Anyway, coming back to the point of my post, contrary to past experiences, what is now keeping me hanging on to this show by a very thin thread is Siddhant Karnick. Or rather what he has done with RNJ.
The persona that he has been able to give RNJ is remarkable, He had help from the script to begin with. The writers crafted RNJ with a lot of love and Siddhant was able to take off from there. However today, when RNJ has been butchered completely by the new set of writers, Siddhant is still able to draw from his reserves and retain that aura of charm, honour and quiet strength that the character was originally invested with!
Watching any of the OLV videos or Siddhant's interviews would help us understand the transformation better. It will underline the fact that there is nothing of Siddhant in RNJ, save the face and body.
Be it the gait, be it the speech, be it the regal posture, be it the smile, be it the nods, none of it is to be seen in Siddhant. All of it has been developed so a whole new persona can be crafted from the base material that is Siddhant. The amount of thought and effort that has gone into this is so noticeable that one cannot help but commend the efforts of Siddhant and the original writers of this show! And the director too! Not sure if he has also been replaced since!
Anyway, the fact is, despite the merciless butchering done to his character, this man single-handedly holds my normally fast waning attention now. I am still watching for the nuances that he brings, the vulnerability, the charm, even the unbelievable gullibility. It hurts and yet I watch, almost deriving some masochistic pleasure.
I would like to quote a friend here, from the feedback that she has offered to the channel on the butchering of RNJ.
" With due respect, the creative team of ETRETR needs to re write Ranaji's character going forward. Here is a king and a war hero and "duniya dekhi hain" character and you show him ordering Avdesh out of Amerkot in one instant and then drinking with him and inviting him to his home and family in the other, blissfully blind to the fact that Avdesh has designs on his wife! At this rate, the audience will only have disgust for his lack of character, not love for his naivete! Its thanks to Siddhanth K's acting and personality that he has a fan following despite such apparent and ridiculous flaws in his character."
The sentence marked in bold says it all. It is Siddhant's acting and personality and his crafting of RNJ that has earned him and RNJ admirers, despite what the writers have done.
Siddhant has asked us not to bother with feedback. Although it appeared to be said in a lighter vein, am sure there is a deep sense of disappointment within for the way his character is shaping up now. Yet, it is good exposure and good money and I don't blame him for sticking to it!
He continues to hold me as RNJ but like I said before, I hanging on by a thread. Not quite sure how long I will continue to stick on.
Just thought to say this again, thank you Siddhant for making RNJ bearable despite what your writers have done to him.
Hope RNJ is restored to his original form with respect and love! I am not sure it will ever happen! But what is life without hope!
All the best, RNJ and Siddhant!
