Does one trust a man who utilised unfair means in a duel? Does one, when inebreiated, extend a hand in friendship to such a man? Does one also bring such a man home when one is aware of the spouse's misgivings?
If this fiction were being written for some other medium, it would be revealed later that Ranaji was just keeping his enemy closer till he could ascertain whether he was in cahoots with others, such as Badi Rani Maa or others at the palace. Surely, a King would not have failed to intercept letters written by a convict, even if it was a royal convict.
But, this is scripted for Indian tellydom. So, I hold no hopes.

Now, even for something scripted for Indian tellydom, I fail to understand the inconsistency in the way the creatives sketch their characters and plots.
Ranaji is hurt that his wife, his Queen, did not exhibit faith in him, in his skills as a warrior. 'Twas just a couple of nights ago that he engaged in tomfoolery to apologise to his wife for not exhibiting faith in her and her very sanity.
And Ranaji is hurt because she broke tradition and, instead of waiting to crown him victorious, she came to the duelling ground. Was it not a few days ago that, when sensing that his wife was in danger, he started striding towards the well by which the women were celebrating the festival? Only to be halted briefly by Kunwar Chacha who reminded him that men were not permitted to the area where the celebrations were on. Were Rajmata and the others not to return to the palace with Gayatri's "dead body", would he have stayed on in the palace? It did not appear that he would have. He was heading towards the door.
So, is it just a plan case of double standards? Or do the writers not remember what they have not just scripted but also canned?
Or did I miss a memo that informed the audience that there would be a new "show" every two weeks with the same actors playing characters that bear the same name, albeit sketched completely differently in every such new "show". I certainly must have!
