Re him asking her why she did what she did, do you mean refer to the duelling ground before he walked away? Or at some other time? I would have thrown brickbats at him for attempting that in public.
And, in private, she did attempt to explain why she did what she did.
Given that his opening statement was that she lacked faith in him, she certainly could not tell him that she came to the duelling ground to die with him to keep her promise of living and dying together.
Now that I've typed that out, even that doesn't make sense. She has faith in his abilities, but sought Rajmata's permission to go to the duelling ground to die with him, if need be.

Now, yet another seeming inconsistency, but perhaps not.
After his win, Ranaji declared that he fought the duel for the respect of his subjects. That was what one would have assumed was the underlying reason for him accepting the challenge in the first place. Wooster, I remember your reply on this.
What happened to his subsequent private declaration that he would now fight the duel to win the trust of his Queen? He did not acknowledge that reason, by even glancing her way or nodding to her, while making his victory declaration. It could be because he was quite upset for that "shrieking" entrance (understandable as it was). which halted the banshee in mid-strike and and also for her intrusion in his decision-making re Avdesh. These, in his view, underscored yet again that she certainly did not have faith in his abilities.

By scripting her entrance in such a way, the creatives have deliberately taken liberties with Gayatri's character which will have many questioning her actions too. If she had faith that her husband would win, she would not have felt impelled to be at the duelling ground to die with her husband. As Rajmata said, it was her battle to be fought in private. And she failed that, with Rajmata's permission, of course.
Now, consider that the ladies were in the balcony, in full view of the public, watching the duel and not in a secluded room. Her shriek could just as easily have been heard and she could just as easily have been seen by Avdesh -- to provide the distraction (and no, I am not happy with that either!) -- even if she had remained with Rajmata and the other ladies.
