Everyone in this forum is criticizing Dayamanti but we all are forgetting it was a different era where girls use to get marry early and had no say in the choice of groom, and some time got married with old man and even a handicap person. Once I read a short story written by "Munshi Prem chand" where a girl get married to the man who had a son her age and it was written in a way that it was normal.
It's hard for us to understand that but I guess Gayatri and her father both are very broad minded than the people in at that time.

Gayatri s family is considerate enough to give her a chance to speak her opinion .

Those days... girls of that age was considered a body with no feelings and emotions for self . In a way a "Yes" machine . Nodding and accepting anything that comes their way.. coz others want it to happen.
N here to make matters worst she is also considered an "abaghan" by the society. So definitely we can't blame her mother or brothers keeping in mind the Era.

But yeh... it's hard for us to tolerate it tho :P

Yes it was a very common occurrence for old men to marry young girls in India during that time,
But nevertheless of this being a common occurrence and perhaps acceptable, here in the serial they was shock and distaste on the face of Gayu's brother's and father when it came to be known that the proposal was for the father and not the son when Damodar visited them.

But you say it was the era common but perhaps even now it happens when the girl is not wealthy the choice in husband can be a widower or even someone old like Damodar as long as he is wealthy and where she comes from perhaps the family are struggling to feed her so this old man comes to marry their daughter and take one headache from them, without dowry they can get her married to old man who is wealthy to look after their daughter.

Yeah thats true
But still in last few episodes the way her Mom behaved n treated Gayatri didnt look sensible. But perhaps she is bounded by her regressive thoughts & today in her convo with Gayatri, she expressed what she feels which made me less angry on her 😛

I agree... We must not forget it was in 1942. SO Damayanti's behaviour is normal according to that time. Gayatri's father was way ahead of his time though.
