I dont think the brothers will scold their wives. In one spoiler segment their shown supporting them. But thnx for the comment. About Aish marrying a tree so funny how even modern day prestigious families still believe in such superstitions.

It is really ironical... Gayatri is the daughter of one of the wealthiest man. Her father literally showered her with the money he had just because she asked for it. And yet, just because she is a girl, she is expected to have only one destiny; ie to get married. Just because she is considered an ill-omen and now isn't getting any other marriage proposals; its as if there is no hope for her in life. Her parent's love for her, her father's wealth or her intelligence are considered to be of no use to her just because she is a girl... and the only thing that would be of any worth ends up being a marriage. It is sad for girls when their worth is measured onlyby their marriage.

It shocking that the only way to determine a girl's status was to by seeing how well married off she is. Never mind that she is so priviledge in the 1940s to be a women who can read and write. She is intelligent so much so that her father wishes he can hand her over the business yet she is frowned upon because she can never marry? Their really was no other alternative.

yet, gayatri i shud say has been lucky to have supporting parents and her education which helps her to create her own dream world. Gayatri herself doesn't seem to wish anything else.
it would be interesting to see what brings about that change in her character, i.e if it is modelled on Rani Gayatri.
but when we think of the present times have things changed that much? isn't a successful marriage still the parameter that decides a woman's success? her lack of achievement in her career, i believe, is not counted as her failure as much as her ability to hold on to her marriage!!!

PS: beautiful collages. my 👏to the creator.

Yes we are still somewhat stuck in that mindset that marriage should be the ultimate goal for a woman. Gayatri is both blessed and unfortunate at the same time.

Shweta Di is a brilliant collage creator .

I too wanna see their reaction when Gayatri gets married to Ranaji,, Hopefully we ll see them working for gayatri then!

Yes I want this positive attitude in Gayatri all the way. I dont want her to be a doormat in any way. Yes I want a seen of them decorating Gayatri from head to toe. More than her marriage which is wrongly considered the ultimate goal for women. I want to see her conquer the people of the land as a Queen. And then see the Bhabi's reaction.

Yes I can name a famous rape case where in the documentary the Lawyer was blaming the victim for being out alone at night wit her boyfriend. Clearly it still exist.

Misogyny has continued since then. Those ladies will get it back when she marries Rana. I hope the marriage is no sauda or deal, with the bauji letting the royals scot free without paying the loan in exchange of the daughter. This will again be misogyny to some extent.

Yes it has def continued since than. I will wait and see how the marriage plays out and than voice my thoughts on it.

Before anyone gets offended, I am not saying its only India that is afflicted by it but since we r discussing a Hindi serial...

But this is what makes the attitude of Gayatri's parents refreshing...concerned as they might be of getting her married and leading a happy life ..they are liberal enough to let her life as it is now.. Making sure she gets to do things she enjoys even if the norms dictate otherwise..

Yes it def still exist to a large extent today. Its not just India but everywhere. We yet to have a female head of state here in the US. Gayatri has a good set of parents. Not sure how liberal her mother is not allowing her daughter to read but her father is def more liberal. I love their bonding. Yes he def wants to see her happy.

From whatever I heard from my Nani and Dadi, I realised how their desires and dreams are not given the chance to realise due to the "girls don need education" rule back in those times.. Due to less to no education for them, they don get to set goals or have ambitions in life.. As taught by their mothers, women or should I say girls of those times, had limited desires and their world revolved basically around their family.. The gyans from mother to be the theek thaak ladki in your sasural means they had lesser choice to voice out their pain and opinions when they feel they are wronged.. Also the superstitious beliefs were much much relevant those times, majority of them(non-educated_ believed in such things like jinx, cursed and etc.. Its a little sad to know how parents believe in such crap beliefs rather than their daughter.. However, I feel eventually it all boils down to the fact that education wasnt accessible to many people in that era, only the very rich people got to pursue higher education...

ps: i hope im talking sense, cos i just generally commented, no comments on the show though.. 😉 awesome topic/post jaan <3

Yes I think Gayatri is at least blessed in that sense she got an opportunity to learn how to read and write. Yes she didn't get much of an opportunity to set goals. Yes I think non-education def played a hand in those superstitions and how prevalent they were and actually are.

Thnx for commenting jaan!

Agreed! They did show the way people think about women. The bhabhis and even mom think marriage is the most important part of being a woman. Without it, she is worthless!

But as many pointed out i did like the optimistic spirit of Gayatri. she doesnt get bogged down by all the insults. She decides to ignore and take it in positive way. The way she tells her mom, to whom am i working? My family only na!! shows her positive spirit. Though she is from rich family, she is treated like a servant becos she is the unmarried, so worthless, daughter!! Very regressive mindset!

But did u notice, that kind of mindset is not completely gone. May be in cities, unmarried women are not looked down. Or should i say in professional fields, they may not be looked down upon, but among relatives, a grown daughter's marital status is always discussed and sympathised over. Being unmarried myself, i know what i am saying. Even today it is seen as a state to be pitied.

In villages and small towns it must be even worse. so in that context we still have not moved any further. May be we dont see them as worthless (i do work in govt!!) but to be sympathised.

And saas bahu crap may not be overtly present in this show, but bhabhis and i think chachi in rana's house will fulfill that function.

Yes I grew up in the US. And I know how much a marital status is discussed even here if you grown daughter isn't married by a certain age. Excellent point. Thank God it is not overly present but they are their to represent that regressive mindset. Great response.
