Excited to celebrate her 2nd wedding anniversary next week, Kalpi skips down the stairs, heading to her father's study. Hearing angry voices coming from the study, she stops by the door, eavesdropping with concern.
"How dare you... how dare you betray me," Mahesh says with disbelief, his gaze turns to the file on his desk, glaring at it as if it were a snake ready to strike him.
His gaze filled with hatred, Ragav gloats, "did you think I married your daughter to play happy family?" Placing his palms on the desk as he hunches forward, staring at the man seated across from him, he growls, "I let you play the piper... for this", he adds, tapping the file, he adds, "being your son inlaw gave me access to a lot more than what I could get my hands on as a mere prosecutor."
Straightening up, ragav says with a smirk, "you have the rest of tonight to say goodbye to your family... for you will be locked up for a long long time."
"Where do you think you are going," Mahesh yells at Ragav's back with false bavardo. Ragav stops by the door, turns around, smiles and replies, "off to burst the bubble your darling daughter lives in... You dare aim a gun at the woman I love... now watch me take aim at your daughter..." his voice cold, he adds, "and I won't miss." Gleefully he adds, "it is about time that she realises that her husband does not love her... let alone that he can't stand the sight of her... it is also about time she finds out what a monster her father is."
"Don't you dare," mahesh gasps out... his words left unheard.
Ragav races up the stairs, bursting open their bedroom door, his monologue at the tip of his tongue. Ready to shoot the darts at her. Annoyed, he looks around the empty room, muttering with frustration, "damn it. Where is she?" Not pleased that things were not going as planned.
Feeling suffocated as his conscious bites him for what he has planned, Ragav walks out to the bedroom balcony for some fresh air. His gaze automatically falls on the swings in the garden out of habit. Seeing Kalpi sitting on the swing as it moves back and forth slowly, he smiles wryly unsurprised, watching her. How long he stood there watching her from the shadows, he did not know... nor did he acknowledge... it was a habit he had forged from a very long time ago.
Swinging back and forth, Kalpi ponders on how to keep the balance between her father and husband... thinking... wondering if she should tell them that she knows everything... or should she continue feigning ignorance.
Hearing a sound of a distressed bird, Kalpi forgets about her worries and rushes to find the bird. Seeing the bird lay injured on the ground, Kalpi rushes forward, cupping the bird carefully in her palms. The bird, panicked, furiously attacks, biting away wildly, drawing blood. Kalpi on the other hand, used to this, keeps her calm, ignoring her pain and soothingly coos as she slowly strokes the bird, "hush... you are safe... I am here to help..."
Several feet away, Ragav watches with a frown as he stares at palms that already had several stubborn scars. "Why don't you have better sense," he scolds, masking his concern for her. Kalpi turns around slowly, smiling, she replies, "he is hurting." Her subconscious choosing the masculine gender. She continues, "he is scared... once he realises I am not his enemy... that I wish him no harm... he will stop attacking." Looking at Ragav, she adds, "once he realises he can trust me, he will allow me to heal him."
Ragav stares at her, lost in her words, for a split second he wonders if her words were for him or for the bird. Suppressing the thought as soon as it rose, he says, "the cost is pain and scared hands."
Pulling out the thorn that was stuck under the bird's wing before releasing the bird. Kalpi looks at the old and new scars on her palm. Turning to Ragav she smiles, saying, "the pain and scar puts a smile on my face." Reading his puzzled expression, she continues, "the joy I feel from knowing that I helped ease another's pain, overtakes the slight discomfort I experience."
Reading the haunted look in his eyes, Kalpi adds silently to herself, "I hope one day I can do the same for you."
Shaking his head, as if to clear away the spell he is under, Ragav shrugs and says dismissively, "whatever rocks your boat."
Kalpi smiles, her gaze filled with love and patience, she asks, "did you come look for me for a specific reason?"
Nodding, Ragav replies bitingly, "yes. Here", as he hands her some papers. Confused, Kalpi takes the papers, wondering if the papers were regarding fire father, thinking, "is he opening up to me... finally."
Kalpi freezes momentarily, reading the word... divorce. Blinking rapidly, fusing to shed any tears, mentally berating herself, "you should have realised it would be divorce papers!"
She looks up to him, her eyes asking the questions her lips would never voice. She gives Ragav a slight smile, nodding she says, "I am sorry..."
Ragav snaps angrily, hating this side of her... always making him feel like a monster... he interrupts confrontationally, "what are you sorry about?"
Smiling ruefully, refusing to react, Kalpi replies, "that my love is no longer enough for us." Looking at the luggage packed behind him, Kalpi asks, "do you have a pen?"
Angry, but not understanding why, Ragav lashes out, "seriously is that it." Confused as to why he was disappointed... hurt.
Calmly Kalpi replies, "did we not promised to respect one another's decision... that should either of us fall out of love and opt out of the marriage... we would respect it."
Giving her upper arms tightly, his fingers biting into her flesh, he says furiously, "so you are giving up on me... you are not going to ease my pain..."
Her eyes filling with concern, it was the first time he had every mentioned that he was hurting, Kalpi caresses his cheek with her palm and asks softly, "where are you hurting?"
Ragav pushes her away, his core trembling as he suddenly yearns to share his pain with her. Shocked with himself... with this desire... he thinks, "what the f**k am I doing," as he runs away from her, luggage in tow.
Silent tears fall as Kalpi watches her husband rush away, thinking, "I haven't given up. This is just another scar to help heal you. I look forward to the day when you can hear and accept the voice in your heart."
Turning towards her home, Kalpi looks towards at the divorce papers in her hands, then up to the house, runs into the house, thinking, "daddy, let us figure out a way to get you out of this jam."
Opening the door of her father's study, seeing her father lie on the floor, still, Kalpi shrieks, "daddy!", as she races over to him.
