Chapter 5
Kalpana didn't want to go but he was the one who forced her, this thought was killing him brutally. While driving, if anything happens to her I will not be able to forgive myself, Ragahv thought frustrated. While driving he didn't care about the rules and regulations. His all intention was to reach the spot as soon as possible. 40 minutes of driving finally Ragahv reached. Normal people were not allowed to get into the place as police made the place restricted. But somehow Ragahv managed himself to go to the back of the banglow hid himself where all the students were kept under terrorists. He got into the banglow using the bathroom ventilator. He saw one of the terrorists was standing with a gun in his hand facing his back. He looked at his right side. All the students were there. Where is Kal... he couldn't finish his sentence as he saw her pale face few feet away from him. Then he sneaked to the person who was standing with a gun. Ragahv was about to attack the person from behind, he heard a gunshot. He heard one of the terrorists shouting, "Didn't I warn you not to cry." Ragahv's eyes then fell on a student, laying on the ground with pool of blood. Then his eyes fell on Kalpana whose mouth was opened about to say something. Within a second she found herself covered her mouth from her behind. She was not in senses. She still didn't realize who the person was when, "Shh don't make any sound or they will shoot you." She looked behind to see the person. "Don't worry I will find a way to get out of here," hearing Ragahv, Kalpana nodded her head with teary eyes. They looked to the other side when a student said, "why are you doing this to the innocent people like us." The person who shoot the girl, hit the student by his gun and shouted, "Do not test my patient or you will find yourself with this girl." Looking at another terrorist, the person said, "let me take them upstairs and lock them in a room." While going upstairs, Ragahv also joined them. He didn't want to leave Kalpana alone in this condition and he couldn't believe these people as they could do anything with her. No one doubt Raghav as he joined recently in the group as there were other three instructors present there. KAlpana was walking slowly. Ragahv was behind her. When the person saw Kalpana walking slowly, he pushed her by his gun and said, "Walk fast." Seeing this Ragahv fist his hand angrily. Before he could raise his hand, Kalpana stopped him holding his hand. Raghav looked at her when she shook her head in no. The person took everyone to the upstair and locked them into a room. when the person left, Ragahv said, "We can't leave it on police or we all will die. We have to find a way." One of the instructors said, "but how?" Ragahv looked around the room. He noticed that there was no window.
Ragahv: Let me think
Ragahv was pacing back and forth in the room. After thinking something, he asked, "Is here any back door."
Instructor: yes. There is one on the right hand side of the first floor.
Ragahv: Hm
One hour passed. The instructor said, "Did you find any way?"
Ragahv: We can't do anything staying here in this room. we have to wait until we go downstair. In the mean time he heard the sound of the opening of the door. The same gun man entered into the room and looking at the girls, he ordered, "everyone come out." While coming out of the room, Kalpana held Ragahv's hand. "Not you," the gun man said stopping Ragahv. "Only girls," he added.
Ragahv: where are you taking them?
Gunman: that's none of your business
"Holding Kalpana's hand tightly, "they are not going anywhere." After thinking something the gunman said, "look I don't have time to argue with you. Police dont agree with our proposal that's why we are going out taking all the girls with us."
Ragahv: Why girls? Why not men? Take me instead of girls.
Hearing him, Kalpana looked at him unbelievably. Looking at Kalpana, the gunman said, "We only want girls as we are planning to keep them with us to take care of us." Then he looked at Ragahv and said, "Now leave her hand."
Ragahv: I wont. Let see what you can do.
"Do you really want to see," saying so the gunman was about to point the gun toward Ragahv angrily but, Raghav stopped him holding his gun pointing to the roof and he twisted the person and held him from behind. Ragahv snatched the gun forcefully and pointed toward him. looking at the students and instructors, Ragahv said, "Follow me behind." Ragahv took the gunman downstair. Seeing this another gunman was about to point the gun toward Ragahv, Ragahv said, "If any of you dare to shoot any of us, I will kill him. Now drop the gun on the floor." The gunman who Ragahv was holding shouting, "didn't you hear him? Drop the gun on the floor or he will kill me." One by one dropped their gun on the floor. Looking at the instructor and students, Ragahv said, "everyone go out using the backdoor. Hurry up." While everyone was rushing, Ragahv noticed that Kalpana was just standing there staring at Ragahv with her eyes filled with tears.
Ragahv: why are you waiting for? Go.
Kalpana: why cant you come with us?
Ragahv: I cant
"I will not go without you," Saying so Kalpana walked toward Ragahv. Before she could reach Ragahv, Ragahv pushed Kalpana out causing her to fell on the ground. Then he told the instructor to take Kalpana with them. All the students were already got into the school bus. When the instructor was taking Kalpana with him forcefully, they heard a gun shot. Kalpana looked behind and saw Ragahv, sitting on the floor holding his bleeding arm. Seeing this Kalpana couldn't stay anymore. She forcefully released herself from the instructor's grip and ran toward Ragahv. She didn't care about herself as both police and terorist started shooting to each other. Ragahv saw that the bus already left with the students leaving Kalpana. Once kalpana reached him, Ragahv grabbed her hand and sneaked to the bathroom to hide themselves and locked the door. Raghav sat on the floor and leaned on the wall. "why--why did--didn't you go?" hearing him Kalpana looked into his eyes and said, "You came here only for me right? Then how could I leave you like this?" looking at his injured arm, KAlpana said, "Is it hurting a lot?" hearing the footsteps coming toward the bathroom, Raghav shushed Kalpana. They heard someone said, "We are only three people alive. Lets find those two so that we can use them to get out of this place." Without wasting a second Raghav helped Kalpana to get out of here using the ventilator. In the mean time he heard someone was trying to break the door. before the gunman broke the door, Ragahv already got out from there. To save themselves from them, Ragahv and Kalpana ran into a forest.
After running almost 40 minutes, Kalpana noticed that Ragahv's condition was getting worst. She looked around and her eyes fell on a cave. "Sir, lets take rest over there as it is getting dark and we don't know the path to get out of the jungle." Ragahv nodded his head as he didn't have any more strength to run in this state. He sat on the ground leaning on a big rock. Kalpana looked at her full sleeve top. She ripped both of her sleeves and tied Ragahv's injured arm to stop the bleeding. While doing this, Ragahv noticed her crying. "Ms. Kapoor, I am fine."
"You are not," Kalpana said and scolded, "Why did you put your life in danger to save me?" Raghav smiled with half opened his eyes and said, "It is a duty of a teacher to save his student."
Kalpana: I never heard that a teacher has to put his life in danger to save his students.
Ragahv: have you ever heard a teacher pushed his students into danger? When I pushed you, isn't it my duty to save you?
Kalpana: sir, why are you blaming yourself? Whatever you did was all for my good. No one knew it will happen. Now you try to sleep as you lost so much blood.
Ragahv: if I fall asleep, don't go out in the dark. There might be an animal.
Kalpana: don't worry. I am not going anywhere leaving you.
Then Kalpana tried to make some fire using two rocks. Once she made it she went back to Ragahv who already fell sleep resting his head on the rock. She sat beside him making little distance in between. she recalled the incident that happened today as she closed her eyes. Everything she felt like she was dreaming. All of a sudden hearing some noise Kalpana opened her eyes. she noticed that Raghav was shivering due to the cold. she touched his hands. She felt them cold. she tried to massage them but it didn't help. She was so scared. "What I am going to do now," she mumbled to herself panicking . All of a sudden something came up into her mind. She came close to him and pulled him into her arm into a tight hug to provide his body warm. Ragahv looked at her with his half open eyes. "Sir," Kalpana said softly into his ear, "Your body needs warmth. If you get sick I wont be able to do anything at this moment. Please help me. Please hug me." Ragahv hugged her back. After 30 minutes Kalpana felt his temperature return to normal and then he fell asleep. Seeing him sleeping peacefully, Kalpana relieved. She smiled and fell asleep resting her head on his.
The next morning, feeling pain in his arm, Ragahv woke up. Once he opened his eyes, his eyes fell on Kalpana who was sleeping peacefully resting her head on his. Then he realized that he was laying almost on Kalpana resting his head on her chest. When he moved to get off, Kalpana woke up. Once their eyes met they shared an intense eyelock for a moment. They were so lost into each other that they didn't realize their positon. What is there that he was ready to die for, Ragahv thought. On the other hand, I wish I could be your pupil so that no one could separate me from you, Kalpana thought. Once they realized what they were thinking, they started stealing their eyes. "Let"let me go -out," saying so Kalpana came out of the cave leaving Ragahv alone. Looking at the sky, Kalpana stretched her arms as she slept at the same position whole night. Raghav was watching her with a smile in his lips, standing little far from her. Realizing what he was doing, his mind said, what happened with you today? this is not the first time you saw her. Then his heart said, it is because you never paid any attention. "What attention?" Ragahv mumbled to himself, "Ms. Kapoor is my student and I am her teacher. That's all." Then he let it go from his mind. He walked toward Kalpana and said, "Ms. Kapoor, we need to leave now."
After 20 minutes of walking they noticed that few police officers and Sahil came to rescue them. Seeing KAlpana, Sahil ran toward her and hugged her. "Thanks God, you are fine," Sahil said. Seeing father and daughter happy to be with each other, Ragahv felt good. He walked with police officers to their jeep. While Sahil was taking Kalpana to his car, Kalpana stopped him saying, "Dad, you go home. I will come later."
Sahil: where are you going?
Kalpana: I am going to the hospital with Ragahv sir.
Sahil: were you injured?
Kalpana: No, I am not, but Ragahv sir was injured. I want to be with him until his treatment is done.
Sahil didn't argue as he knew Ragahv was the one who saved his only daughter. "Ok, you go. Come home early as your mother is worried for you," sahil said. "I will," saying so Kalpana walked toward the jeep. Seeing Kalpana getting into the jeep, Ragahv asked, "where are you going with us? Your dad is here. Go home with him." sitting beside him, Kalpana said, "Don't worry. I will go home, but before that I have to make sure that your injured is not that serious."
Ragahv: If it is then are you going to stay in the hospital with me? Pagaal.
Though Raghav didn't take her seriously but kalpana did. Ragahv was not only surprised but was shocked when Kalpana replied with a serious tone, "I will." Ragahv looked at her when, "I will until you are cured completely." After that no one had any conversation until they reached the hospital. After giving Ragahv a treatment the doctor said that he was lucky as the bullet just passed into his arm. Hearing this Kalpana was relieved. After bandaging his injured arm, Ragahv was shifted to a cabin. In the evening Ragahv felt sleepy due to the pain killer. Realizing Kalpana was still in the hospital, Ragahv said, "Ms. Kapoor, didn't you hear what the doctor said? you go home now. I need to sleep."
Kalpana: then sleep na. who is stopping you?
Ragahv: you. I cant sleep until you are here in the hospital.
Kalpana: I am not bothering you.
Ragahv: may I know what is your plan?
Kalpana: You already know
Looking around the room, Ragavh said, "Here is only one bed. Where you will sleep?" Kalpana looked around and saw a couch. Fixing herself on the couch, she said with a smile, "I can sleep here easi..." Ragahv stopped her saying, "But, I cant." Seeing her looking at him confused, Ragahv said, "I am not comfortable sleeping with anyone in the same room." hearing him, Kalpana got off from the couch. "Don't worry, I will wait outside," saying so, kalpana was about to leave the room but stopped hearing Ragahv, "Ms. Kapoor, please go home. Your parents must be waiting for you. You were already away from them since three days. Go home and take rest. Hm." Before she came out she closed the door. not only Kalpana but Ragahv was also sad as he had to let Kalpana go. He didn't want anyone show concern toward him. Specially Kalpana. Thinking about her he fell asleep. Kalpana was sitting on a bench outside of the cabin. After 15 minutes Ramu kaka came. Seeing her sitting quietly, he asked, "Beti, are you ok? Why are you sitting here alone?"
Kal: Sir is sleeping that's why I am waiting here outside.
Ramu: You seem very tired. Go home and take rest. I am here na to take care of him.
Kal: Kaka, you are also telling me to go home.
Ramu: If your sir gets to know you were here then he will get upset on me. I already spoke to the doctor. He said Ragahv baba has to stay here under their treatment for another two days. You go home now and come tomorrow again.
Kal: Ok, but you promise me you will let me know if there is anything serious.
Ramu: I will. You take care.
Finally Kalpana got relieved and left the hospital.
In the midnight around 2 A.M
Raghav's sleep got distracted due to the pain. He also noticed that his bandaged got wet because of the blood. He got off from the bed and walked toward the door. he was about to call Ramu but stopped seeing him talking to someone on the phone. Who is kaka talking to at this moment, Ragahv thought, is he talking to mom dad? He was about to call Ramu to call the doctor but stopped hearing Ramu saying on the phone, "Beti, don't worry. I just checked Ragahv baba. He is sleeping. You go to sleep now." Ragahv understood who the person was on the other side of the phone. Ragahv was waiting for him to finish his conversation with Kalpana. He didn't want her know about his condition now or she would come to the hospital immediately. Once Ramu cut the call, his eyes fell on Ragahv.
Ramu: you woke up? Do you need anything?
Ragahv: Kaka, can you call a nurse? I need to change my bandage. Also I need pain killer.
Seeing bleeding, the nurse said, "We bandaged your arm well but how come so much blood coming?" Ramu was standing beside Raghav. Hearing her RAmu dialed someone's number. Ramu was about to say hello but Ragahv snatched the phone from Ramu's hand and cut the call. "What are you doing?" Ragahv asked with a serious tone.
Ramu: I was trying to call Kalpana
Ragahv: That I know. But why? Do you know the time?
Ramu: Kalpana called me at least 50 times to know about your whereabouts while you were sleeping. I was just trying to let her know about your situation. Give me my phone. She must be worried
Ragahv: I wont. From now on do not give her any of my news.
In the meantime RAmu's phone rang with name of Kalpana. Handing over the phone, Ragahv said, "Pick up the phone and tell her that I am fine and sleeping and tell her not to call again." Ramu received the call and told the same as Ragahv said. "You are so mean," saying so Ramu left from there angrily.
The next day
Ragahv was busy for the whole day as lot of people came to visit him in the hospital. First the principle came along with all the students Ragahv saved from the terrorists. Then his office staffs and then finally, Kalpana with her parents. Kalpana went to meet the doctor while her parents went to see Ragahv.
Sahil: we met before at Kalpana's school
Raghav: I know. At that time I didn't know Ms. Kapoor.
Sahil: Thank you so much for whatever you have done for my daughter.
Rag: Mr. Kapoor, Please don't thanked me. It was all my duty.
Nitu: you were able to do what we couldn't do as a parents.
Rag: Ms. Kapoor is such a obedient and talented girl. What she needs is someone's attention. Your precious time.
Nitu: our daughter likes to keep things inside her. She never shared things with anyone. As a parents we failed to know our daughter's likes dislikes, her wishes. We kept ourselves busy with work leaving her all alone. We realized it when we were about to lose her yesterday.
Rag: I am glad you realized it. It is not too late yet. I am sure she will make you proud to have a daughter like her.
Kapoor's house
At night
Kalpana was studying in her room. seeing Nitu, Kalpana asked, "Mom, do you need anything?" caressing her hair, Nitu said, "Kalpana, I and your dad have planned to go to Europe after your exam."
Kalpana: then go na.
Nitu: you are also coming with us.
Kalpana was dying to spend time with her parents since childhood but today she didn't know why but she couldn't excite hearing this. "Mom, why don't you go with dad?" hearing her, nitu said, "We have planned to go to Europe only for you." After thinking something, Kalpana said, "I will let you know if I want to come with you or not." Taking a deep breath Nitu said, "beta, I know you have so much complain about us as we coundnt give you enough time. Please let us repay." Kalpana hugged Nitu and said, "Mom, it is not like you are saying. Right now I really want to focus on my career. I am way behind. I want to spend time with Raghav sir as much as possible so that I can make you proud to be a kabil daughter." Caressing her face, nitu said, "Beta, you thought about us and it is good enough for us but do not give yourself too much pressure." Kalpana nodded her head with a smile.
The next day
Kalpana's school
In the lunch period, Kalpana was having lunch with her classmate Purvi in the cafeteria. All of a sudden, Purvi asked, "Kalpana, why didn't you leave with us that day?"
Kal: didn't you see RAghav sir was injured? How could I leave him like this?
Purvi: sir was injured. He wouldn't be able to save you. You could die along with him
Kal: how can I forget he was there only for me.
Purvi: when it is a matter of saving your own life, people forget everything.
Kal: But I can not. Raghav sir can not. We have a strange connection in between us. We would even regret live our lives rather saving each other.
Purvi: Hmmm. Achcha tell me, did you say thanks to him?
Kalpana shook her head in no. "How you are planning?" hearing her Kalpana thought something and said, "I will buy a thank you gift card and give it to him."
Purvi: Think something else.
Kalpana: what about a shirt.
Purvi: nooo. Think something else.
Pouting her mouth, Kalpana said, "You help me na." after thinking something, Purvi said, "I want you arrange something special for him." Kalpana was listening to her attentively. Purvi continued, "Take him to a dinner. There will be a romantic background song and dance with him looking into each other's eyes." Purvi noticed that Kalpana's cheek became red as she was blushing. Shaking her shoulder, Purvi asked, "Kalpana, why are you blushing? I was just joking with you and you took it seriously." Seeing her looking at Purvi angrily, Purvi said teasing, "Why are you mad at me? Were you really planning something like that?" giving her an angry glare, Kalpana got off from the chair. She was about to leave but stopped hearing Purvi, "By the way, it wont be a bad idea if you plan something like this. Who will let this opportunity go, going out with a handsome guy like him." Kalpana smiled and left from there.
