Chapter 4

As they Walked Along

Raghav and Kalpana walked along with each other side by side maintaining some distance between them. Raghav could sense the fear and anxiousness in Kalpana and he kept assuring hand on her shoulder, "Everything will be alright! Don't worry," he said, Kalpana looked at him with the same sad face but seeing him smile, slight smile appeared on her face as she nodded and they walked ahead. Raghav noticed her dress was completely spoiled and little torn. He took out the shawl he carried with him and wrapped it around Kalpana's shoulder to make her feel more comfortable and Kalpana thanked him for his sweet gesture. "Would you like to have something? I mean eating or have something to drink," Raghav asked Kalpana who was walking silently by him. Kalpana simply nodded her head in yes, ... Raghav looked at her and kept feeling bad for her, "Woman who was tiger till yesterday is all of sudden acting like mouse," Raghav looked here and there, and thought of doing something. Both of them headed towards a small hotel and Raghav assured her that he will go and place the order, Kalpana just nodded her head silently. Kalpana yet took out her bag and kept her money ready. Raghav came back smiling at Kalpana and she smiled back at him.

Waiter brought in one glass filled with a chocolate shake with eyes, which looked delicious, Kalpana waited to have it, but as a courtesy she sat their quietly while Raghav looked at waiter asking for other one. He said, it will be ready in couple of seconds and he will get it. Kalpana continued smiling at him, but seeing him pulling the glass towards him her smile faded a little but she re-plastered it on her face. Soon her glass came which consisted of Green coloured with sprinkles and a tomato added to glass for purpose of tarnish. "What is this Raghav?"she asked curiously, as Raghav started having his chocolate shake. "Ohh... That... That is Spinach Juice... You... seeing it I can imagine you... having it.. and then being superwoman to fight anyone who comes across... Just like Popoye," making Kalpana's eyes pop up in shock... "And I am sure... You have ordered this for yourself!" she said.. calmly exchanging glass, as it was left alone. Raghav smirked, "No I can fight them on my own..." he spoke as he started taking back his glass of shake, and continued "and I won too... So you need that strong muscles... and instant energy... POPOYE THE SAILER MAN.." only to be held by Kalpana's hand..!! "I will have this... !!! You ordered now... I chose..." she demanded... "Too bad... I tried asking you, but your face didn't allow me too... as it kept on saying... Poor me... I almost lost my file." Kalpana stared at him, and before he can do anything, she snatched shake glass spilling it little and gulped it down, while Raghav kept on looking at her in daze... Trying to understand, what's going on... by the time she finished having it and laughed out openly in a way of making fun of him... Raghav smiled as he saw her laughing, he couldn't move his eyes away from her laughing face... And lost himself in the thoughts "Maybe this is first time I am seeing her laugh... And she looks so beautiful while laughing, as compared to being some angry bird in society... SOCIETYY???" Raghav realized... "COME!! We need leave, or else I will be late...!!" Raghav said, getting up... "Wait..!! What???" Kalpana asked holding his hand to stop him, "You mean YOU WILL WASTE the juice??" she asked him and Ragha replied, "Of course, I do not like this juice at all...! And since you had my shake... we have to leave now...," Kalpana was shocked by his attitude, as she started her throwing her pebbles of words on him, "do you realize, it's value...??? We are lucky to have food and afford it... not everyone in the world is as lucky as us... How can you even think of leaving off? This much of ..." Before she can complete her sentence Raghav rolled his eyes and removing his hands from her grip stretched it towards the table and picked up glass... He made a face of "Eww... I don't like it..." Yet drank it... continuing making his face, while Kalpana looked on laughing at his funny face... "You know whatever patience and head I have left is more important than this juice and I do not wish to lose with super awesome speech you had started..." he stated after putting the completed glass on the table, making Kalpana open her mouth in and make her eyes smaller nodding in no as she started again, "You know what..." ... "No, I do not know... neither do I wish to know!" Raghav said, and headed outside, while Kalpana followed him with her bag.

Raghav was walking out with his pace fastened while Kalpana followed him trying to catch up, and huffing, "Are you having any flight to catch?" she asked huffing. "No, I am late,... and I need to reach to Gokuldham quickly before society members kick me out," he said still walking ahead. Kalpana stopped, "Wow! So you do prefer to be punctual... chalo, atleast something to be impressed about!" she said... While bending low touching her knees, which were paining due to brisk walking, that is almost running for her. Raghav turned her around to see her bended low, "Are you ok?" he asked as he walked back to her... She got up, "Yes, I am PT Usha right that I would be so used to running like these that too in chappals, that too on Mumbai street," she said... Which made Raghav look at her, "Do you mean I am PT Usha?" he asked curiously, making Kalpana again burst into laughter as she replied to him between laughs, "No you are Milkha singh...!!" bursting out again... Her laughing face continued bringing broad smile on his face, "Ok, now enough of this laughing session, will walk slow, come... Let's move ahead..." Raghav said forcing himself out of his staring session. Kalpana reduced her laughing yet kept her corners of her lips risen, Kalpana took her first step only to stumble due to numbness her leg felt for now, Raghav helped her stand up straight and start walking by walking beside her and holding her hand, till she was fine. Kalpana again looked at him with her curved lips and thanked him for help, as duo continued walking. "So what is your plan after our watchman comes back and you are free from this duty after one month?" Kalpana asked just to start up with some conversation. "Flee to Mauritius..." he mumbled, which was kind of heard by Kalpana and was confused, "What? Mauritius?" she tried to confirm making Raghav widen his eyes, "Mauritius? What about it??" he said thinking of an excuse... Kalpi thought she had misheard something and decided to ignore, saying "Nothing. I mean would you be joining your previous job?" to which Raghav replied, "Mostly I am not really interested in working, but I guess I will be left with no other option?" he said honestly, while Kalpana looked at him amusingly, "Well, but what about..." before Kalpana can continue, "Can we talk about something else?" Raghav asked cutting her... as questions about Raghav was leading him to confusion, "Tell me about yourself," he asked Kalpana. "About me?" she looked at him with surprise, "Well my life has been like a roller coaster ride often... Leading to confusions... and chaos in my life..." she said smiling. "Really?" asked Raghav, "now that would be something interesting to know..." he said... Kalpana laughed hearing this, "Well, but nothing is totally interesting in my life to know about ... Currently I am working at Singhaniyas... under financial dept. and that's all what one may know about me..." Kalpana replied. "Well, I already know that... But what I meant is..." he stops seeing Kalpana looking at him and nudges his shoulder as if asking "What?" ... "How do you know I work at Singhaniya's and that too in financial dept?" Kalpana asked suspiciously. Raghav started laughing seeing her expression, well I didn't know about dept. but the file which you were protecting had name Singhaniyaas to make it obvious. Kalpana was relieved somewhere to know he is not any thief or undercover spy... which she assumed for less than 10 seconds. "Anyways," she continued... "There is nothing more about it..." That's when she sees the poster of famous guitarist on the hoarding while walking, "OMG... there is a concert of this band that too here in Mumbai???" she asked enthusiastically. Raghav looked at her surprisingly, "Are you interested in music?" he asked. Kalpana looked at him, "Actually not really, but dada (my elder brother) is... The thing is..." she continued as they walked ahead, "I have always been interested in dancing, that too classical, but my family, wanted me to be educated and be self-independent... and stuff, hence I have learned dancing via a certificate courses,... Infact..." she said with all eagerness looking at Raghav, "I often got opportunities to perform at bigger platforms... but couldn't due to my exams or some academic issues," she said feeling bit disappointed, as Raghav started telling him about his interest in music, "Well I love music, and particularly, I have been learning and practicing Guitar... I have been part of several such concerts and have played guitar in events too..." Kalpana was amazed to see this side of Raghav, "Then ?" ... Raghav rolled his eyes, "Then came a villain in my life called DAD!" he replied, "who has sole aim in his life..." He was about to add the "Aim." But Kalpana added it, "to see his son as good human being... And obedient and kind citizen, who fulfils his duty who is HONEST, and sincere serve the country ... Not to forget POLITE." Raghav was stunned hearing this and stopped there as Kalpana went ahead, "Do you know who is my father by any chance? How do you know all that?" he asked. Kalpana stuck her tongue out and closed her eyes, "Well this is what every father wishes and expects from their children, so..." she said it out from excuse, Raghav nodded his head understandingly, "Well you right ... but my father gives no damn to the thought of his son contributing or serving to nation, he ust expects him to be his devotee and his organization's goat," he said annoyingly. Kalpana wanted to add, "Being police is anyways serving the country ... !" but avoided seeing his sarcasm towards his father. Kalpana tried diverting the topic, "So is there any special memory about this guitar thing?" she asked ...

Raghav: "Yes, when I was in UK, I had got this chance..." ...

Kalpana: "UK?" came another spit back question from Kalpana.

Raghav: "UK?? Yes... UK- have you heard of this place called udipi district of Karantak?" he said as casually as he can.

Kalpana nodded her head... "Udipi in Karnataka is UK? Like seriously?" Raghav nodded... and finally they had reached their place... Kalpana laughed at his logic of UK and headed in...

She could see everyone waiting, and worried for her... Kalpana slowly entered the society as she recollected real reason of the delay. It is something she wants to forget and had almost forgotten and got over it... But it was time for her to recall the whole minutes of brutal attack. She asked everyone to forgive the delay, as something serious had happened, as she started explaining how she came out of the office and was followed by goons, who had tried snatching away file and it's information, tears started beaming in her eyes... then she explained how they were about to hit her and Raghav came there in nick of time to save her and helped her out to get up and walk along... She also told them that since the roads of abc lanes were blocked no vehicles were providing them services and were forced to walk.

Vitthal was worried hearing her, "Beta are you ok?" Kalpana hugged him as tears rolled down her, "Papa, to be honest I was really scared, and I was in shock too... but thanks to Raghav that he came in nick of the time to save me and helped me overcome... the shock... I feel much better" she replied. Vitthal broke the hug and went towards Raghav joining his hands in front of him and thanking him. Raghav held his hand and told him, that it was his duty. Viraj watched everything and somewhere felt happy and proud of Raghav.

Neetu and Vitthal hugged Kalpana and all turned back to go to their homes... Kalpana turned back to look at Raghav who stared back at her smiling as duo continued sharing their eyelock. Viraj notices this and taps on shoulder of Raghav, "Let's get back to duty watchman baba," he said. Bringing him back... as he settled down right outside cabin, and cold wind touched his face.

About 2 hours later, Kalpana came out at balcony her eyes searching for her saviour of the day. She smiled when she saw him, busy with some magazine, "I am sure it's about some musical information that he is reading," she thought while looking at him scrolling few pages. Raghav glanced around the society and noticed Kalpana at balcony as she looked at her plants. He smiled seeing her, when Kalpana turned around again to collect the bottle her eyes met with Raghav's gaze. They shared an eyelock with both their faces glowing with happiness, as both of them recollected their time together while walking.

As sun's rays filled up dark sky, waking up Kalpana from her sweet little dream world. She got ready for the office as Neetu ordered, "Kalpi, beta please go and give this tea to watchmen and Abdul." On any other day, Kalpana might have excused herself under pretext of "I am getting Late Mom!" but today she surprised Neetu by picking up the flask and tea. Kalpana has always been obedient and responsible as daughter, is not something Neetu would deny, but when it comes to work and punctuality, Kalpana would hardly ever compromise on her values', but today? Kalpana looks at confused Neetu understanding her thinking mechanism, she replies, "Mom! Today I need to go little late because of worker's meeting with harish sir, I meant our peons, watchmen and sweepers, etc..." Neetu smiled... "I know my daughter really well... Go..." Kalpana carried all the things downstairs, and first headed towards Abdul's shop giving him tea. Raghav was packing up for heading home and catching his... good night... naa... good morning sleep after warm bath. Kalpana entered the cabin offering tea to Viraj and she was about to hand it to Raghav but Viraj interrupted Kalpana, "Raghav will..." Before he can complete the sentence, Raghav grabbed the cup of tea from her hand and said, "Thanks with smile." Leaving Viraj shocked and Kalpana confused as to what was Viraj trying to say? Viraj just denied saying anything as Raghav started having the tea sip by sip only to be stared at by Viraj. Kalpana smiled.

Precap: I hate these sons of rich people... what the hell do they think of themselves, Kalpana said wiping off the mud from her dress, while Raghav just tried helping her, and stood there bit worried.
